6:55 You forgot you fitted new tires! Modern car ECU's usually have a self learning capability. With the faulty MAF it has learned wrong parameters. Hence the shitty running. Now with the new MAF it will relearn again and store new better parameters based on that new MAF input. That might probably improve the way it runs with increasing longer use.

About your starting problems, try this, Switch your ignition to the on position, but don't start it, count to 10 switch off, switch back on again to the ignition on position, count 10 again and start the car , if the car starts easily it is likely that your glow plugs are weak. If it's the same get your diesel pump checked for low pressure or slight blockage.

Re your starting problem, we had a Peugeot Partner van with the same engine and the same problem, especially when cold after it had been standing it was almost impossible to start. If it hadn't been stopped for long it was fine. We eventually concluded that the diesel was draining back into the tank overnight, probably due to a minute air leak somewhere in the fuel system which wasn't enough to leak diesel but allowed air in when standing and the fuel gravity fed back into the tank. Not wanting to replace lots of pipes etc I got round it by fitting a non return valve in the rubber feed pipe from the tank under the bonnet (not the return pipe). That stopped the injector pump draining overnight so the engine would fire with a full pump and then pull fuel through. That cured it. Don't know if you have the same problem but worth a look.
@seancarritt24388 күн бұрын
@Hubnut. This sounds very much like that may be your problem as that cold start was definitely lack of fuel pressure…. Give her a few pumps of the primer bulb and get it nice and full of pressure and see how she starts on a cold start….

We had the same issue on our Picasso, caused by a cheapo ebay fuel filter letting air in. A decent quality one from the motor factors fixed it. If this issue starts after a service, this is likely the cause 👍

My friend's 2002 Berlingo is a slow starter too. It's just passed its MOT so it's still ploughing on despite being battle scarred.
@paulluce25577 күн бұрын
Regarding slow crank speeds on starting.. It feels like dead battery yet you shove new battery in it and it makes little difference. .. One of my Berlingos had this problem.. I decided to fit starter motor from a 2001 Synergie 2.0 Hdi that I scrapped.. ( long story, not relevant here)...Fixed problem.. higher crank speed solved starting problem as it was better quality more powerful motor.. PSA cheaped out on the bulk buy of starter motors as the Berlingo is a budget car in range ...I sourced another Synergie/806/Dispatch van starter to go into another Berlingo that I ran ( and I still run) .. Performing fine to this day.
@mtttony9 күн бұрын
The 2.0 HDI Starter can get slower without being noticed, and as a consequence will not spin it over in the cold just fast enough for a quick start or no start. This happened to me and took me a a bit to work it out.. Thanks guys!!

Glad to hear Bella is going better, the reason for poor starting could be glow plugs if they haven't been replaced and id definitely advise changing the 4 in one go if that is the case though it could also be the battery and/or the starter but I know that when my diesel car was hard to start I had one dead glow plug but I sought to replace all 4 as they usually give up one after the other.

Probably not connected to the Berlingo, but having had Mass Airflow Sensor problems before on our Honda HRV, check the big rubber bendy air pipe between the air filter and the engine. If there is a single split in any of the folds, then it can throw up all sorts of MAF error codes or problems. Even one fitted brand new three years ago has now started to fall to bits and splits everywhere. Speaking from experience and lots of money later!

So….. a naff maf! Keep an eye on fuel rail pressures on DW10 engines as the fuel pumps can tire with age and it takes longer cold cranking to build the fuel rail pressures before the injectors will ‘fire’. Glow plugs failing don’t help cold starts on these. Just be careful removing old ones, they can and do snap. Stay safe in this wild weather we are dealing with.

I replaced the MAF on my Peugeot Expert and it totally transformed it - for the first time in ages, I could out-accelerate a fully-laden HGV! It didn't fix the drastic loss of performance after putting it under heavy load though. Doing a maximum 40mph up the hills on the A66, 10 miles into a 170-mile drive home, isn't particularly fun. It was also a poor starter in very cold weather, lots of cranking followed by lots of white smoke. Weirdly, unplugging the glow plug control unit made it much better. The control unit looks really corroded underneath though. I've also got a set of new glow plugs to fit - which ought to be easy as the engine's been sat on the floor of the workshop since April 2023 - but I'm absolutely terrified of them snapping off in the cylinder head, so I haven't touched it yet.
