I've only just got my internet back today (Tuesday following the storm). Luckily I have a small generator, so was able to run the fridge, lights etc when the power was out over the weekend. Spent a nervous Friday fixing loose slates on my roof - can't quite believe they all stayed in place!

Living in a valley one either misses the worst as it blows over the top or the full force if blowing along, this one blew over so a bit of eddying, a large chunk of neighbours shed roofing felt did blow into my garden but the other side dodgy wall still standing. Must put more water in the unused old wheely bin, as it cost £40 (Irish Punt) from the council when they did the collections it gets used as a barrow, 10 gallons not enough weight. The 4 in use ones chained together and to a wall, not the dodgy one.

I fear every year the storms seem to get worse, I cannot remember when I was growing up storms like this with the exception of the 87 Storm (which I don't remember as I was 4). I remember last year's storm in October , we were on holiday in a caravan and you could hear the sea roaring all night long, the year previous to that at said caravan park there was a lot of destruction. Glad to see you have weathered the Storm safely.

Good to hear from alive and well Wales, I really appreciate living on the sheltered coast of Ireland, where we get the tail end of the big ones, we also tend to get a fraction of the good summer weather as well, but as a pay off, that's more than acceptable! One has to realise when one is well off?

Ian interesting video thank you. Glad to hear all the HubNut family are ok and your internet is back as I write this. Darragh was a result of a VERY intense Jetstream around 250 m.p.h. so Darragh started off as a normal Depression but as it CROSSED over to the North of this STRONG Jestream it DEEPENED RAPIDLY and to make things worse a HIGH PRESSURE system built behind Darragh helping to SQUEEZE the Isobarrs and intensify wind speeds even further. you live in more remote area than me but winds were still gusting to nearly 60 m.p.h. here at nearly 600ft above sea-level on the Chilterns.

Your near last comment, about the storm taking down power lines and phone lines, is an interesting one - I say this because with increasing wilder weather, because of climate change, which drives storms from heat - originating from somewhere along the line, even if it is your winter - the damage being created, which was already occurring enough - is obviously looked upon as cheaper to CONTINUOUSLY repair, rather than putting underground. This is a relatively big debate in Australia. New builds get underground electricity and I think? all landlines are underground ? But the potential for bushfires with downed power lines is enormous and has been the initiater in the past. With our grid, currently being unable to cope with rooftop solar and the advance of renewables - the fast building of a competent network is still focusing on towers. The excuse is cost: to me this makes no sense. Clearing land for bushfires barrier, servicing, labor costs - particularly at night and holidays when events occur, accidents, land surface restrictions, maintenance, flying objects, moisture and replacing towers when they go down and the damage done when they cause a fire and this going on for life - it just doesn't add up. The long-term cost saving, would be to PUT THEM INTO THE GROUND !!! but alas, I think corporations, employ their actuaries, and work out that part of your charges and insurance and litigation will be covered. Just ridiculous.

Power went off at 02.00 on Saturday 7th and it is still off at time of this posting,15.22 Tues 10th. Electricity provider says power may be back on Wednesday 11th around 19.00 but no promises. Internet will be many days or even weeks longer as fibre optic cables are down across large areas of rural Ceredigion. Lost everything in the freezers already. Fortunately we have two woodburners for heat and cooking. Battery radios are the way to go for the news and we are so glad that we have a few Powerbanks and head torches. Traeth Gwyn looks like it took a hard battering. Fortunately we have only three trees down in our field and garden. 4G phone signal intermittent and no 5G yet in the area.
