@@moonfire41 I'm sure you have plenty of living relatives in that area of the world. You just don't know who they are. I have the same problem, which is why I did the ancestry test to help connect me to them.

The Countess of Dalkeith did a wonderful job of redecorating the house and getting just the right balance of being home-like and luxurious. Especially impressive give. she’s not a professional designer.

Scotland looks so beautiful in every season it seems ...im a person who loves dreary rainy weather and id like to think its b/c of my ancestors who were from Scotland lol

These adventures to other fabulous homes helps me understand Mapperton (& Hinchingbrooke) better. But leanring the Montagu history has been a very exciting side quest! (As an American 🫣 it was so confusing for me at first that y'all are Sandwiches, Hinchingbrooke, & Montague's living at Mapperton 😂 but youve made it all make perfect sense 💖).

I love watching these videos about the UK's cultural and architectural heritage! My family maintains two ancient family estates in Spain which have been in the family ever since the 13th century (time of the Reconquista) and conservation work takes a lot of time and hard work. Most aristocratic family estates are quite different from UK estates though as Spanish aristocracy did not come from wealthy merchants or the like but from military feats, unless one was from a Ducal or Marquisal family at the very least. Spain also had a very wide class of untitled nobility which are sort of the equivalent of landed gentry in the UK's context. We still share a hamlet and a lot of land in one location and a seigneurial home and land in the other one, all held in copropriety between the descendants.

What a beautiful and efficient estate! I got a little dizzy during the drone shots leading to the castle ruin, lol. I admire how the family preserves their childhood home so they always keep those memories alive. And I'm an avid gardener so that was my favorite part. Scotland has a narrow growing window that far north so that would limit some things.

The decor for the Montegu Room is perfect! I prefer pale pastels for rooms. I think they are more peaceful, compared to other color tones.

Just beautiful and stunning estate and of Scotland 😊❤. My family is from English and Irish ancestors from the 13th century (one of the kings but I don't remember which one), lol ! Excellent! Loved the colours in the rooms, makes me want to redecorate my house which I've only just finished redecorating! I'm half Scottish but that means very little when we come to think about it. The historical documents were facinating to see & the gardens, & main Gardener, were a joy to witness!

WOW! WOW! WOW! Scotland is also my most favourite country. I've always said that if I ever leave Africa, I'd be heading for the country of my precious grandfather's birth. I've only ever experienced great happiness and a sense of freedom everytime I've been to various areas in Scotland. The highlands have always fascinated me, I'm sure I was a Viking in one of my previous lives 😂😂 but now I'm thinking I should explore more of the lowlands too 🤔 Thanks for this fabulous video Julie!!

While I absolutely love Julie, her energy and her enthusiasm. Absolutely no castle belonging to the Aincent kingdom of Scots was abandoned.... If it was it was because the clan, their chiefs were forced to flee during war with England to save themselves. Even Robert the Bruce, torched set fire to , Edinburgh castle, Stirling castle and Roxburgh castle during his wars against England,as these were seen as military strong holds held by at that time forieng rule and red coats being the English Army. The bruce was forced himself to flee and hide in a cave to recover from his wounds during battle, whole villages Valle's and families torched in the search for him. Bonnie Prince Charlie refused to step foot inside these buildings and camped outside Most Castles belonging to the Ancient Scots were burned to the ground or destroyed in the name of the king and country, by the red coats, they worked their way from the lowlands to the Highland to clear scotland of the scots whole families clans and chiefs were brutally murdered, Enslaved, imprisoned or forced onto prison boats during the wars with England. I am sure the 13th century is when the declaration of Arbroath was signed. The Scots tounge was outlawed Blows my mind people look at Scotland as some romantic fairy tale, in truth her lands were stolen her people colonised and her history wiped from existence. Every mountain, valley and river/burn are bloodstained The Highlands is essentially a grave yard
