People say he isn't pragmatic which is the biggest lie I could ever digest. Remember the 4-0 trashing of Brentford, he realised that the technical and physical acumen of this squad is very low and he absolutely had to throw his possession ideas to the bin and adapt to the players. So, since that 2-1 win over Liverpool, his entire tactics last season were there to suit the players available. I absolutely agree that he has had tactical flaws this season but doesn't this show that our players aren't capable of playing in an expansive system were you actually need to be technically and physically strong!? Sometimes I feel ETH is doing the right thing by exposing these players. Bring in anyone you like, these players will fail everyone. Everyone ask this to yourself : Can Pep make this same squad with these same injuries play even the simplest form of his patient positional and possession based football? If Klopp had this exact same team, would he be satisfied asking this team to gegenpress? Let's say the hottest manager now, Xabi Alonso, if we get him. He has been absolutely genius in rotating his squad, will he have the same success doing that in our squad? These are simple Qs. The reason why other teams do it and it's not a problem is because they actually have a proper structure to make it work, a defined pattern of knocking the ball around... So often than not you'll see a Man utd player on the ball and then no one to pass to, because teammates are not occupying the right zones for easy ball progression. You also have to think of it that we've played with different players this season but still face the same issues that definitely tells you it's not all on the players man

Imo, his only biggest and most grave mistake was to push for Antony. Still, people don't understand why he did that. It was because we didn't have one single left footed attacker in the squad (Greenwood was out). Also, it was the board's mistake that they gave ETH the authority of the entire transfer strategy which just shows how incompetent our recruitment team is. If people blame the manager for overpaying for a player, then they can't be any more wrong. Casemiro wasn't really his signing, it was another panic signing. Martinez was absolutely brilliant until he got injured. Malacia was a decent option for €14M, but again injured. We overpaid for Højlund but he, Sesko, Kolo Muani and Ramos were the only top young STs in the market so that fee was justified. Onana's signing really made sense as De Gea's contract was up and it was time to move on after 12 yrs, yes it could be debate whether it should have been that a priority. Mount, again can't really judge because he has been injured. Eriksen, Dubravka, Butland, Sabitzer, Weghorst, Evans, Amrabat, Reguilon were either free or loan signings. Having almost equal loan signings than actual buys just shows at which horrendous level the clubs recruitment has been. Bring in Pep if you like, but it won't mean anything if the backstage setup is such

@@user-ig1ps2mr2r I’m glad you are another fan with sense. People keep overlooking the mess he deals with behind the the scenes and the manager shouldn’t be doing a DOF’s job, recruitment teams job, whilst doing his own job with all the problems that already exist. Ten hag asked for players to be sold and they are still at the club, Jose even said the same thing. The job is impossible to succeed in if the team around him are incapable of doing their jobs properly. Every year and every manager we have we break records we don’t want to and that can’t be solely down to the manager. For the people saying he’s made bad decisions, well of course he has, if you’ve been in a toxic environment long enough you are bound to start making decisions that aren’t right. Ole came out and said most of the players didn’t want to be captain and some players didn’t want to play in certain matches but we are here with the same players repeating the cycle.

Good analysis, I feel like ETH player narrow because of how slow our back line is. We're most vulnerable during transitions and when we're switching shape (Brentford were literally hoofing balls into empty space and daring our defenders to win a foot race) and Palace are a good transition team. There was an Ericksen switch in the first half to Wan Bissaka (maybe why ETH played him deep instead of Mainoo who doesnt have that switch in his locker) but thats AWB not Shaw over there so it went nowhere. It obviously didnt work but i see what ETH was trying to do.

Can't legislate for Casemiro & Evans back from injury in defence. With no proper left back and Eriksen in midfield. This creates technical problems for the defence technically in and out of possession and physical attributes of the defence too. I called a Palace win too. For me this result is based on how severe our injury situation is, the quality of players in certain positions hurt us.

To have 6 of 7 CBs out with injury (and the 7th not really fit at all - Evans) is unacceptable. Not sure if I'd be too hard on the players (played out of position) when the tactics don't help them one bit. Players in their natural positions gotta step up and help them out (Hellooooo AWB and Dalot)! It is impossible to gain confidence if the team play is about individual brilliance, and the patterns of play are demanding a special kind of players that all are injured and unavailable... ETH should've assessed the team by now (hell, we got a huge coaching team to help him.. WTF are they doing?! Lazy as hell if you ask me!), know how we can play to these backup players strength (or coached them to know their roles and responsibilities) - superior team play as our players actually aren't that skilled. Instead players do not trust one another and they don't take defensive responsibility when teammates leave positions. You cannot let any player get away.. even Dalot must know he gotta step down if Casemiro is joining the press. Or another player if Casemiro is pressing opposition toward right side... The players are dumbed down to be high on stamina, instead of quick thinking, explosive acceleration and immediate aggressive press applied from several players at the same time. From Ole's Moments FC where the defensive block was quite solid with a deep double pivot, the single pivot is very vulnerable as that CDM is working way too much as a no.8 in the sense of joining attack. Instead of screening and help doubling and reinforcing our defensive line from right to left. Working vertical vs lateral. Really thought we did that well in ETHs first year, but now it is way too empty. This organization, guidelines and rules of play in the system, it gotta be crystal clear. Either ETH has drilled players in these systems or he hasn't. I've never felt he is doing preparations to defend vs opposition strengths - United play the same way vs every team we face. Which is basically not having any defensive plan at all, or a flawed one that every team in PL can expose with ease. If you got 3 CBs (Varane, Martinez and potentially Shaw if either first two are ill/injured) and then just one RB that can play high line well (Dalot, AWB usually screwing our offside line)... simply put, it is complete nonsense to play a high line. We're able to do so for less than half a season. ETH system is based on this. You are making a mockery out of fans with such stubbornness... process?? Players learning a lot by being humiliated by far inferior clubs huh. I believe some wise managers said you also learn a lot by winning and breeding a winning culture. Our players are losers with a loser mentality. They down tools and get into 2nd half with zero intensity.

Be patient. As Zamunda mentioned.. changing managers and getting a bounce doesn’t resolve anything. I believe INEOS wants to work closely with ETH in building a solid foundation, which has started already since he came in. The youth team is an example of that. The senior team is difficult to drastically change because of the wages. No club wants to pay that much for mediocre players like Rashford, Martial, HM, SM etc. it’s tricky. And now, even if the stadium is always fully packed, due to Glazers and execs, we are stuck with FFP limitations. Which led to us loosing two key transfer windows. Remember RR saying that this team needs 4-5 windows. We have so far only used 2 and that too detrimentally. In a nutshell, let the key players come back from injury, let the crap players on last year of contract leave, increase funds and start from there with a new structure. Coach has a good philosophy and is one of the gifted minds in modern football. Let him cook.

Him playing from the back with the players he had is the reason we lost. Also, him playing mainoo and erikson in front of the defense makes me question if he actually knows what his players are capable of doing. All he had to do was to play with just two forwards- Garnacho and Hojlund, and put an extra player in the midfield. If we dont have any, bring in someone from the youth team. This season we had the most goals conceded with the most shots taken against and we scored the least goals.

Why can’t they develop a short & medium length passing-based game? And learn to press properly? Because it’s too much like City?!? Are they too embarrassed to learn from the best? It was as if they had been told before coming out just how terrible they were and are all out of a job soon, no matter what...Massively demotivated. Insipid Rashford, Casemiro, Shaw, Martinez, Bruno = the bedrock of last year’s efforts. But this year & this game - injuries and lack of form from the stars. And it looks like they have mentally accepted their fate (though Mount and Amrabat did seem to try to muster some energy)... And the fans too... That they were so spiritedly loud and consistent, despite observing that awful fare, reminded a bit of the crazed support after Denis Law's notorious backheel. (The moment that finally confirmed my commitment as a small boy). The drive is to discount the immediate evidence but gather oneself to look ahead for the fightback in the distance, that cant yet be seen. No Dennis Law, but a Haaland - and the rest of the best- to push the final nail in?

Well, let's say this way that if INEOS keep ETH, then either it is purely for financial reasons and uncertainty to get an upgrade or even at par level of manager as ETH in this manager merry-go-round OR INEOS are very thoughtful and see it from a rational perspective that the manager is not the biggest problem. I think ETH might not be perfect or even a great manager, but he certainly isn't the biggest problem. But, at the same time, I don't have enough strength to defend him anymore like I did maybe till February

AJ, can you do a video looking at Simone Inzaghi. Personally, he's the only manager i'd be interested in bringing to united. I think with a few key signings his ability to switch between 3-5-2 and 4-2-2 would suit our squad to a tee. especially with Luke Shaws fitness questionable at FB, and I think should be rotating between LCB in a back 3 and FB against certain opposition. Would be really interesting to get your thoughts because no one seems to looking at him for some reason.

Palace was using Alonso's formation and tactics and it worked brilliantly. 1 glance at how they shape up based on their formation and you can see we are in trouble with Eriksen and Mainoo in the double pivot. ETH is tactically clueless. No doubt we are struggling in defense, but that doesn't excuse our frontline where we had only 7 shots on goal, 2 on target with none from Hojlund. we had 4 players who were wanted and signed by ETH for big money ion thew starting line up, 5 if you include Casemiro though he wasn't ETH's choice...3 of them were subbed out for our youngsters and a loanee (another wanted by ETH and could have been bought by him if we had the funds). So basically more than half the starting lineup were his players with Garnacho, Mainoo, Dalot and AWB signed before he came.

Predicted a 3-0 lost, under 10H this team just dont know how to play the ball on the ground n quick pass n move. Its so predictable any balls into midfield it will be a blind hoof upfield. Amrabat or U21 CB would do better than Evans who clearly is not fit

All of these are not things that just happen once in a while. They are recurrent patterns we see in every match. It's very poor coaching by Ten Hag and his coaches. I absolutely do not understand how anyone says the players aren't doing what the manager wants and he can't find a way to combat that. He's a coach fgs.

Are we leaving those spaces because we don't have players like Onana or Rice though? People love saying about tactics but it's extremely clear that this current squad doesn't not fit any structure properly, even with counter-attacking tactics under Ole we still had major flaws especially when we played McFred.
@k.m9900
@k.m9900 Ай бұрын
@mikester4896 it's clearly instruction because why are all our players doing it? If it was just Erikson and Casimiro leaving the spaces, it would be evident only in their areas, but that's not the case. The whole team is spread massively wide in and out of possession. Every pass we attempt looks like a long pass, and every time we lose the ball, we aren't in positions to win it back. Hence why I said it's a structural/tactical problem.

Our results are finally starting to match our performances. We look so terribly caoched and it doesnt look like there is a single thing we're good at, not in defense, build up or attack. The injuries excuse only goes so far. The players dont dictate the style and tactics of play, the coaches do, and all season long they've looked bereft of ideas even when injuries improved.

So Maguire, AWB, McTominay & Amrabat (for example) are capable of playing like City or possession based teams do? The answer is no to any one of four of them. The only one player that hasn't been a regular is Amrabat and that's because he's unable to play in the PL. Then we have Antony who seems to have been a competition winner when in possession. Casemiro who has got his lazy twin to play for him. Evans only back in training this week. Mount playing his first full game after long term injury. Eriksen whose legs have all but deserted him (can still do a job on the ball). These are the players that have had to be relied upon. None of them can play together and produce consistent performances for 45mins at a time, let alone a full match/stringing a sequence of games together.

@@Justlookingaround19 you are right though. But this team has no style of play.. leaving acres of space in the midfield while players run through. @XboneMalone

@@onpoint1421 This team has no style of play because there isn't a style of play that can make them a cohesive unit as they've been panic bought for several different managers. Paid over the odds for players because they dithered and dallied early on. Wouldn't pay the money for 1st choices, then end up paying 80 for Antony, 60 for Casemiro, 55 for Mount (would be free this year), 70 for Hojlund (worthy purchae, but not for 70). Cut the overspend & failure to move on players not upto it and who knows, might have been able to sign a defender comfortable on the ball and can pass precisely; a midfielder who can trap a ball and pass it, rather than running forwards and marking himself out of the game when we're in possession, a winger that can use both feet or, hell, put a cross in the box every now and then as their first thought, not when they've ran down a blind alley and allowed the opponents to get back into shape.
