Instead of looking at other talented artists and wishing you could paint that way, instead, I think to myself I can't wait to learn and practice more to be just as good as they are, which I think is a more motivating and positive way to look at things.

I totally agree with you! I only started drawing/painting this year and I love that watercolor kind of does it’s own thing. I feel like it does most of the work for me, so I don’t need to have every detail of the texture of a leaf or the sky just right. The paint helps me get to where I want to go.

Talent to me is someone who can let go and paint, get a wonderful result and who can get what's in their mind onto paper! The most talented person I have ever met are my daughter and her friends. They have fun, enjoy, don't over analyse and show joy and pride with every finished piece! They don't have to follow the rules that others have taught you as they haven't been told them yet! Love your videos x

The first medium I tried painting with is watercolor and it's really hard to control everything from color and water. HOWEVER, since I started with the most technique-sensitive medium, other types of painting just came really easy to me. What I'm saying is that, when you learn, at first it will be hard as HHHHEEEEELLLL but after that, it would just be a breeze.

Hey mako! I agree with every word you say 😱, the very first medium that I took serious is watercolors and I even used acrylics as watercolors ( diluted then too much with water)😁.. acrylics dry as I mix them so I don't enjoy it. Watercolors don't allow mistakes though, if an area is dark then there's only little you could do to change it.. and you definitely needn't be good at sketching to try them. Thank you for another wonderful video 😁❤️

I trained as an oil painter and switched to acrylic when I left school and my kitchen sink became my studio sink (acrylic just seemed safer for that). I did maybe one postcard-sized watercolor during art school, and it was just me messing around with someone’s paints while I waited for them to be finished with another project. After a stroke severely limited my dominant hand (I could barely write legibly), I started using watercolors because I NEEDED to paint and had no previous watercolor work to compare with (I used to be able to ______ but now I can only ________), and because I knew if I messed something up I could blame it on the water. I was surprised to discover how easy watercolor is to work with, even erasing it almost back to the white of the page. It’s now my favorite medium.

I just ordered arches watercolor paper since it’s finally in stock in the local online shop. I had such a frustrating time trying to follow some tutorials for skies and clouds and the paper kept drying though I was trying to work as fast as possible. Looking forward to try the tutorials again on the arches paper. Also ordered a better quality brush, I own about 50 synthetic brush that I was comfortable working with, but they can’t hold too much water. Now All I have to do is wait for your book and get even better. Love what you do!

@Makoccino4 жыл бұрын
I understand that it's less exciting if you had a not so fun experience! But most of the time is due to the fact that you didn't learn the techniques! You can control watercolors, but you need to learn how! After I learned about this, I got obsessed with watercolor painting! :) So don't hesitate to try it again!
@JasonLegendaryArt4 жыл бұрын
@@Makoccino when you put that way it's makes sense. I hated charcoal because, well, 'it was hard to control'. But kept practicing and now it's my favorite. Will try to put more effort into learning and give watercolor a chance again, might even add oil color while I'm at it.

When I started with watercolors months ago, I found it so frustrating. I started with very cheap supplies because my logic those days was "for practice it's better to make mistakes with cheap materials so, I won't lose much money". I was so wrong... My improvements was sometimes so slow and it was like if watercolors and paper were against me all the time. But then I read something you said, that sometimes when our paintings goes so bad, it's not our fault but the supplies, and those words gave me hopes. I started to buy better supplies, and I swear now I regret not having done it from the beginning, in first place because everytime you change someting (brushes, paper, watercolors) it is like if you need to relearn how to adapt to this new materials, second because I could save so much time in my learning process, third because my paintings are now more vibrant, vivid and satisfying to make, the process is not frustrating anymore but relaxing... and finally, because at the end I wasted money! buying materials that honestly are trash in comparition, plus supplies I will not use anymore. So, in my experience, I can say you are totally right, Mako! and I think that even if you are starting, do it with the best supplies you can afford yourself!
@Makoccino4 жыл бұрын
Yesss so glad you could experience it!! If you start with good supplies that do what their supposed to do, you learn so much faster and have so much more fun!! So glad you're feeling so much happier now!!

I started painting for 2 years and started with oil pastel because I loved to use my fingers with the pastel but I started almost at the same time with watercolours. When people tell me it is the most dificult medium, I don‘t understand because for me, as not a professional or artist student, is easier than oil or acrylic, what I am starting to learn but find it more difficult.
