Let's remember the influence Mother Mary demonstrated over her Son at the wedding in Cana... 3 And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” - MARY DEMANDS 4 Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.” - DENIAL 5 His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” - MARY INSISTS 6 ... 7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” - SON COMPLIES WITH MOTHER's REQUEST Lord Christ Jesus' love for His mother obviously overcame His desire not to get involved... That is how strong is her bond with her Son and her Son's bond with her. Asking her to pray for us is thus one very powerful channel to ensure our case is heard in the Heavens.!

@deusvult834011 ай бұрын
@@nightshade99Where does scripture say “scripture alone”
@nightshade9911 ай бұрын
@@deusvult8340 The primary Catholic argument against sola scriptura is that the Bible does not explicitly teach sola scriptura. However, this is only true in the shallowest sense. The principle is strongly indicated by verses such as Acts 17:11, which commends the Bereans for testing doctrine-taught by an apostle, no less-to the written Word. Sola scriptura is all but explicitly indicated in 1 Corinthians 4:6, where Paul warns not to “go beyond what is written.” Jesus Himself criticized those who allowed traditions to override the explicit commands of God in Mark 7:6-9. Whether sola scriptura is overtly mentioned in the Bible or not, Catholicism fails to recognize a crucially important issue. We know that the Bible is the Word of God. The Bible declares itself to be God-breathed, inerrant, and authoritative. We also know that God does not change His mind or contradict Himself. So, while the Bible itself may not explicitly argue for sola scriptura, it most definitely does not allow for traditions that contradict its message. Sola scriptura is not as much of an argument against tradition as it is an argument against unbiblical, extra-biblical, and/or anti-biblical doctrines. The only way to know what God expects of us is to stay true to what we know He has revealed-the Bible. Beyond the shadow of any doubt, we can know that Scripture is true, authoritative, and reliable. The same cannot be said of tradition. The Word of God is the ultimate and only infallible authority for the Christian faith. Traditions are valid only when they conform with Scripture. Traditions that contradict the Bible are not of God or a valid aspect of the Christian faith. Sola scriptura is the only way to avoid subjectivity and keep personal opinion from taking priority over the teachings of the Bible. The essence of sola scriptura is basing one’s spiritual life on the Bible alone and rejecting any tradition or teaching that is not in full agreement with the Bible. Second Timothy 2:15 declares, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” Sola scriptura does not nullify the concept of church traditions. Rather, sola scriptura gives us a solid foundation on which to base church traditions. There are many practices in both Catholic and Protestant churches that are the result of traditions, not the explicit teaching of Scripture. It is good, and even necessary, for the church to have traditions. Traditions play an important role in clarifying and organizing Christian practice. At the same time, for these traditions to be valid, they must not disagree with God’s Word. They must be based on the solid foundation of the teaching of Scripture. The problem with the Roman Catholic Church, and many other churches, is that they base traditions on traditions based on traditions, often with the initial tradition not being in full harmony with the Scriptures. That is why Christians must always return to sola scriptura, the authoritative Word of God, as the only solid basis for faith and practice. Again, traditions are not the problem. Unbiblical traditions are the problem. The availability of the Scriptures throughout the centuries is not the determining factor. The Scriptures themselves are the determining factor. We now have the Scriptures readily available to us. Through the careful study of God’s Word, it is clear that many church traditions developed over the centuries contradict the Word of God. This is where sola scriptura applies. Traditions based on and in agreement with God’s Word can be maintained. Traditions not based on, and/or disagree with, God’s Word must be rejected. Sola scriptura points us back to what God revealed in His Word. Sola scriptura ultimately points us back to the God who always speaks the truth, never contradicts Himself, and always proves Himself to be dependable.

@iggyantioch Hehe. I am just being dramatic. Seriously also...Thing is I respect your beliefs and perspectives especially as one who used to be Catholic. However, i want to emphasize that while traditions can enrich faith, they must align with the teachings of Scripture. Mark 7:8-9, where Jesus cautions against holding traditions that nullify God's Word, we need to ensure that human traditions don’t overshadow or contradict Scripture, which is God’s ultimate truth. The enemy doesn't present us with outright lies. What he would rather do is introduce a little yeast that levels the lump. You CAN'T place human ideas equal to God's word. Something God exalted even above his throne. You just CAN'T. You only end up obscuring the purity of God’s word. Pls think about it. God’s 2nd commandment, for instance, is "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them nor serve them” For Something as simple as this, we dont enter the church without disobeying the law. It was after my confirmation that i started questioning a lot of things, and then i found out the sources were not scripture. Too many of them, i must say. Is it how the bible calls us saints, yet we canonise those who have left us and call them saints. Is it how we mumify ppl we revere and bow in prayer at their corpse. Is it the papal infallibility? It is the various prayers for the dead, beliefs in the assumption, and immaculate concept of the virgin mary. Is it the praying and beliefs around scapulas and the rosary? There are just too many all not scripture but traditions. I dont claim to know it all, i am a growing christian but i know and have the conviction the the words inspired by God in scripture are his words every other instruction, deductions, derivatives must align with his words alone. That's why today we have our brothers in the latter day saints, the Mormons, scientologist, jehova witness etc. All are derivatives and interpretations of texts that are extra biblical. It's just too dangerous to ignore. May God help us all.

And in the crucifixion the vail was torn and thus opening the way to Him through Christ. This iconostasis seems a later development of the church and in the ancient church there was no walls and doors that separated us from the table of his body and blood. Rev 5:8, 8:4 is not saying that saints in heaven are offering up the prayers of the living. You're reading that into text. It is just speaking of the prayers from the saints (both living and in heaven) being like incense. Nothing about dead saints being prayed to or receiving prayers from the living to take to God. If mary can hear from millions of people all around the world, praying to her, simultaneously and in different languages, then that would make her omniscient. Their is nothing in the bible to indicate she or any other saint in heaven can do this. ONLY GOD is omniscient. One or two people asking me to pray for them is not the same as millions of people PRAYING TO ME to ask me to pray to God on there behalf. That would be putting her in the role of mediator, and as you gave stated their is only one mediator between God and man and that's Jesus. Jesus is the ONLY PERSON IN HEAVEN that can bridge the gap between man and God. Also the bible warns us not to seek out the dead (Isaiah 8:19, Ecc 9:5-6). Mary is dead.

It is also a refutation against the Christians who said that Allah is three (Father, Son, and Holy Ghost) and the idol worshipers who ascribed to Him descendants and progeny. Explanation of the Verses 112:1 Say, He is Allah, [who is] One Say O’ Messenger: He is Allah, the One unique in His divinity, lordship, names, and attributes. No one shares with Him in any of those qualities. 112:2 Allah, the Sustainer Allah alone is sought in completion of all [our] needs and desires. 112:3 He has never had offspring, nor was He born He neither has a child, a parent, nor a wife. 112:4 And there is none comparable to Him There is nothing comparable nor similar to Him in His creation whether it be in His names, attributes, or actions. Nothing is higher in this universe then the Most Holy Virgin Theotokos Mary, not the angels, not archangels, not Cerubims nor the Seraphims, nothing. Her prayers to God, her son and her intercessions are without equal because she is His mother, and Jesus loves and respects her above all. This is why when the protestants say that Mary was just a woman, they offend greatly the mother of the God and Man Jesus Christ. Do you expect Christ to let you into His Kingdom after offending His mother? Would you allow anyone who offended your family or friends (saints) into your home as a friend? So why should Christ?

This is absurd. Its better to stay away from venerating the Blessed Mary rather than end up putting her higher than Jesus like Roman Catholic's live their daily lives. Their rituals showcases and witnessed to my Hindu friends in my country that Christians are free to choose on who to worship, "some worship the Son, some worship the Mother", these are real words of my hindu friend. The focus is so much on Mary that Jesus doesnt come into the picture, even calling unto her to "Save Us". I rather not mislead anyone and bring sin on my head. I highly respect the Blessed Theotokos but at the end, the Blessed Mary is a subject to my King Jesus. He existed before her, and she has no authority over him. Stop quoting the wedding wine miracle to say she has authority over Him. He honored her as a parent, he would done the same for Joseph as well when he was alive. He surely would have not gone against Joseph even once. He loves her immensely just as He loves any child. God shows no favouritism.

We venerate her above all creation. As Jesus Christ is God and not a creature, but God Himself, she is not above Him. Of course we ask for her to "Save Us", because she works wot God and all the saints for that. And if you know the true and original Bible, she seats at the right of God's judgeing throne as well as St. John the Baptist at God's left side. Since we are Orthodox I do believe it is a sign of respect to refer to the Mother of the Lord as the Theotokos, or another suitable title, for instance, instead of just plain Mary. Orthodoxy reveres and puts Her above all saints and teaches us that if there is one person's prayer that can curry favour with the Lord on our behalf it is Hers. You wouldn't call an earthly queen simply by her first name, let alone the Queen of Heaven. Of course, this is Dogma and an externalisation of one's love and veneration towards Her.

@@tryingnottobeasmartass757 Are you referencing Hebrews 12:22-23? This is the correct interpretation Prior verses referred to the moment when the nation of Israel approached Mount Sinai, where they received the old covenant. That incident was accompanied by a fearsome display of God's power and authority (Exodus 19:9-20), including smoke and fire and trumpet sounds. It also came with a dire warning: anything that touches this holy mountain must die. Even Moses, chosen by God and allowed to approach the mountain, was afraid at the sight of these things (Deuteronomy 9:19). The purpose of these signs, as with the old covenant itself, was to guide mankind's understanding. By grasping the nature of our own sin, we would prepare to accept Christ and the new, superior covenant (Hebrews 9:8-12; Galatians 3:23-24). This verse begins to describe how believers approach the new covenant in direct contrast to the way Israel approached Mount Sinai. Mount Zion features heavily in end-times prophecy, and is often used specifically as a reference to the hill where the temple of Jerusalem stood. In other cases, it is a reference to the city of Jerusalem itself. This verse encompasses this meaning, as well as a reference to the New Jerusalem (Revelation 21:1-4), the ultimate destiny of all who have faith in Christ. Rather than a smoky, flaming, forbidden mountain, the new covenant presents us with heaven. As with the rest of the letter, the purpose of this contrast is twofold: to show that the new covenant is superior to the old covenant, and to encourage Christians to "hold fast" to their faith despite hardship. References to angels, celebrations, and such contrast the mood of Sinai, where God's holiness was displayed through fearful signs, showing that we could not approach Him in our sin. Through Christ, on the other hand, the barrier has been removed (Hebrews 9:24) and we can have confidence in coming to God (Hebrews 4:16). In this passage, the writer of Hebrews continues to show that the new covenant is superior to the old covenant. In this case, the emphasis is on the drastically different tone, or mood, of how we perceive those arrangements. The old covenant was given through a dramatic, even terrifying display by God at Mount Sinai (Exodus 19:9-20). In a very deliberate sense, God presented Himself as absolutely holy, and therefore unapproachable to sinful mankind. The new covenant, on the other hand, is presented to us in a much more peaceful, welcoming, and hopeful tone. Christ gives us the ability to "draw near to the throne" without fear (Hebrews 4:16). The last verse mentioned Mount Zion, making reference to both the earthly city of Jerusalem and the upcoming New Jerusalem where believers will spend eternity with God. This verse continues listing the attractive elements of what awaits those who accept the new covenant. The reference to "the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven" is somewhat obscure. The term translated "assembly" here is ekklēsia, which is also frequently translated as "church." Given that these are persons residing in heaven, the indication that they are "firstborn" seems to follow the pattern of verses such as 2 Thessalonians 2:13 and James 1:18, where saved Christians are referred to as the "firstfruits" of God-while an earthly family can only have one "firstborn," all Christians share in this honor as the children of God. Likewise, the reference to being "enrolled" suggests the Book of Life mentioned in Revelation 3:5, Luke 10:20, and Daniel 12:1. So, the "spirits of the righteous made perfect" would appear to be an additional reference to the assembly of saved souls waiting for those who come to accept Christ. This is purposefully presented as a contrast to the scenario at Mount Sinai. Rather than God being imposing, unapproachable, and even terrifying because of the implications of the law, those who embrace the new covenant can perceive God as their rescue, their rest, and their joy. All of this is possible only through Christ, who the following verse notes as part of the scene we approach as believers.

@@jpbyrne2560 I don't know what reply you're looking for, but I do need to address some of the other questions in your first comment: "Why would you not go to Jesus directly unless you hadn't faith that he could answer." To be quite blunt, you have presented a false dichotomy here, along with some false assumptions. 1) We are not avoiding approaching Jesus directly by asking a saint living in Heaven to pray for us. 2) If we did not have faith that Jesus could answer, why would we bother approaching Him at all? We absolutely do have faith that Jesus can and does answer our prayers. 3) Hebrews 12:1 tells us that the saints living in Heaven surround us like a great cloud of witnesses. Verses 22-24 of that same chapter tell us that in Christ we have access to the living spirits of these saints. And Revelation 5:8 shows us these saints presenting to God the prayers of the saints who live on the Earth. 4) We ask them to pray for us because, as James 5:16 says, "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." The saints living in Heaven have, by God's grace, been perfected in holiness. I want such people to pray for me. 5) They are still full and living members of the one Body of Jesus Christ, and still have their part to play in building the entire Body up in love. "Does [the Bible] say Mary is omnipresent?" No. I assume you ask this because it would seem to you that Mary would have to be omnipresent in order to hear everybody's prayers at once. Am I correct? But why would you assume she has to be omnipresent for that to happen? She is no longer subject to the limits of space and time as we are, and does not have to be either omnipresent or omniscient in order to hear the prayers addressed to her.

Praying to Mary & the Saints is unbiblical! There's a difference between asking family or friends to pray For you, to praying To dead people! Jesus is both Mediator & Intercessor. If Jesus is sufficient for both those roles then why do we need to pray to Mary or one of the saints, who by the way, are dead and departed? Yes, they are alive in heaven, however, there is no scriptural basis for praying to them, rather the opposite is true! Intercession is biblical for you and I who are living, to pray FOR one another, but not to pray to departed people. The saints in heaven may be privy to the prayers of the saints on earth. However, nowhere in scripture are we instructed to pray To Them! The Bible actually instructs us to call on God not the Dead! Isaiah 8:19-20 Someone may say to you, “Let’s ask the mediums and those who consult the spirits of the Dead. With their whisperings and mutterings, they will tell us what to do.” But shouldn’t people ask God for guidance? Should the living seek guidance from the Dead? Look to God’s instructions and teachings! People who contradict his word are completely in the dark. By praying To them, we are taking the attributes of God and placing them on mere humans! Only God is Omnipresent(everywhere at once), Omniscient(knowing everything at all times), Omnipotent(all powerful) & Omnibenevolent(supremely Holy & Good). If the word of God tells us to come to Him directly, then why do we need to pray to anyone else??? Take a look at the following scriptural references: Romans 8:34 [34]Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes INTERCESSION for us. Hebrews 4:14-16 [14]Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. [15]For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. [16]Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 7:23-27 [23]Also there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing. [24]But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. [25]Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make Intercession for them. [26]For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens; [27]who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people’s, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. 1 Timothy 2:5 [5]For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, Acts 4:12 [12]Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Jeremiah 29:12-13 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 33:3 Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. Philippians 4:6-7 [6]Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; [7]and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Romans 8:26-27 [26]Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. [27]Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. Matthew 6:6,9-15 [6]But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. [9]In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. [10]Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. [11]Give us this day our daily bread. [12]And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. [13]And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. [14]“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. [15]But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. 1 John 5:14-15 [14]Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. [15]And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. 2 Chronicles 7:14 [14]if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Psalms 17:6 [6]I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God; Incline Your ear to me, and hear my speech. Psalms 102:17 [17]He shall regard the prayer of the destitute, And shall not despise their prayer. Psalms 145:18-19 [18]The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth. [19]He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry and save them. Proverbs 15:29 [29]The Lord is far from the wicked, But He hears the prayer of the righteous. Romans 10:13 [13]For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:9-13 [9]If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. [10]For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. [11]As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” [12]For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile-the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, [13]for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

This is the only way God has approved for us to approach Him in prayer because Jesus’ has a very unique role as Intercessor between God and men. Yet, Mary isn't omniscient or omnipresent, so any petition or salutation to her has to go through God firstly. After receiving the prayer through God, it seems redundant for her to then petition God for what He had already received from us. One could argue devotion to her pleases God which may have an affect on God to effect change for which we are petitioning, but it is that relationship for its own sake(end in itself) that God honors, not a relationship developed in order to get something out of it(means to an end). All prayer to God should be relational for its own sake regardless whether you get what you want. It should not be a means to an end in order to get what you want. The former is regarded by God, the latter is disregarded by God. Abel's sacrifice was regarded by God, but Cain's was not. The latter's countenance fell because he expected a return for his sacrifice and didn't get it. He didn't sacrifice for the sake of his relationship with God which he should have valued above all. His relationship with and sacrificing to God was a means to his own ends. That is, loving someone for their own sake vs loving them for what they can give you. Jesus taught to give to and love those who cannot return the favor, and not only those who can.
@markpatterson25173 жыл бұрын
@Pat Lance Hmm, maybe we miscommunicated. Prayer, spiritual communication, is a communion with God with whom we are in or strive a relationship, not a petition in a sense of using God as merely a means to our end. God is not a means. He is the End. But not merely an end as a thing we want, but as the End in Himself regardless. Since Mary and the saints are in communion with God, they are included in your communing prayers with God. So praying with Mary and the saints or having a relationship with them makes sense, but should we be using them as means for our petitional ends? Every day little children cry to their fathers and mothers as if the latter don't know what they need. Only two days a year, Mother's and Father's Day, do they appreciate the relationship. That is, fathers and mothers are not merely means to an end but ends in themselves. The lesson in the story of Cain and Able is more than 2,000 years old.

4 REASONS YOU SHOULD NOT PRAY TO MARY 1. THERE IS ONLY ONE MEDIATOR 1 Timothy 2:5 says, There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity-the man Christ Jesus. This confirms we don’t need a “go-between.” We don’t need a middle-man (or woman) beyond Christ. When Jesus died, shed His blood, and was raised from the dead the need to have someone (e.g. high priest) represent us was ripped away just like the curtain that tore from top to bottom. 2. GOD ALONE SHOULD BE WORSHIPPED Luke 4:8 says, Jesus replied, “The Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’” Praying to Mary and/or any living or deceased saints is an act of worship…which is reserved for God alone. When Jesus modeled prayer (Matthew 6:7-13) He began with, “Our Father in Heaven.” No where in Scripture is it suggested that we pray to Mary or any other deceased saints. 3. MARY WORSHIPPED JESUS AS GOD In Acts 1 the disciples and about 120 believers were in an upper room waiting for the promise of the Holy Spirit (at Jesus’ command). Guess who was present with them? Mary. What was she doing? Praying. Acts 1:14 says, They all met together and were constantly united in prayer, along with Mary the mother of Jesus, several other women, and the brothers of Jesus. It’s important to note that the apostles weren’t praying to Mary as a go between. She was joined with them in prayer…to GOD. 4. MARY WAS A SINNER IN NEED OF A SAVIOR According to Psalm 51:5 we are all born as sinners in need of a Savior, Mary included. Mary was highly favored, not sinless. There is not one scripture to support that Mary was without sin. JESUS is the only one who never sinned (2 Corinthians 5:21, Hebrews 4:15, 1 Peter 2:22) which explains why Mary had to be impregnated by the Holy Spirit. Extras * The Bible is about JESUS, after all Jesus is the Living Word (John 1:14). The Old Testament points to JESUS. The New Testament is about Jesus. The authors of the four Gospels saw JESUS as the central figure and only mention Mary in reference to JESUS. The word “Jesus” is mentioned 1,478 times in the New Testament. The word “Mary” is only mentioned 55 times and some of those are in reference to Mary Magdalene. Also, Jesus is referenced in 26 of 27 New Testament books. * Mary can’t hear you. Only God can hear all of our prayers as He is the only one omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent. * Mary was not even recognized in Scripture as a leader in the early Church. Peter is the one who stood up, addressed the crowd, and preached in Acts 1, not Mary. * JESUS is the only Way, Truth, and Life. No one can come to the Father, except through JESUS.

The dead know nothing.... Ecclesiastes 9:5
@olenaolena77362 жыл бұрын
Jesus said: I am the only Mediator. I do not understand why to ask someone who died for something. Jesus said to one of his disciples when his father died: Let the dead buty their own. God says: Worship only God. If you want to ask someone for prayers, ask those that are alive. Do not make an image of anything in heaven . . . . Why people are twisting the gospel? Jesus - is the Mediator and advocate himself and the God

Why you ask Mary? Simple, take a spoiled child, one who asks their parent for things all the time. When they don't get their way they throw a fit! One day that child sees something they want badly, they know from experience that if they ask their Dad he will say, "No"! So the spoiled kid develops a plan. He has a big sister that is his dad's favorite, so the child all loving approaches the sister and begs her to ask! The sister, knowing how the child is agrees to ask because she doesn't want to deal with the incoming tirade that the child will put her thru if she refuses! The girl than goes to her father and asks... Do you think the Father will give the girl the toy that obviously the younger child wants? That's how it is with the catholic church and Mary! They give you another option to receive something that you won't receive from God! Do you really think Mary will give you something that our Father won't? Do you think Mary will be disobedient to God simply for your "self gratification"?

Why We Ask Mary for Prayers? Because you don't honor the Scriptures.
@johnnyd23838 ай бұрын
The Bible commands us to pray for one another, “Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working” (James 5, 16)

QUICK SIMPLE ANSWER: You pray to Mary for her to pray for you don't believe in the word of God and you set your faith in men not Jesus. Repent for your idolatry and come to Christ! Taking bible verses outside of context that even still do not support the idea of praying to those who are dead in Christ! Jesus tells us who to pray to! Our Father who is in heaven.

I love orthodox church but it's seems they take this practice from the pagan practice of Roman. In fact, first christians never prayed to Mary! So for an apostolic church based on apostles teaching ita a none sense. Show me where in the Bible or apostolics fathers books where it say that we can pray Mary or Saint. Nowhere ! So it's one of the reason maybe I can't enter in the ortodox church fully convinced 😕 Maybe a reformed orthodox church without icons and prayer to Mary and/or "Saints" could be a better option.

I second that. Become Lutheran. The spirituality of Catholicism and Orthodoxy (True Body and Blood of our Lord, and Baptismal Regeneration) without the Idolatry. And also the denial of Papal Infallibility of the Protestants. It also doesn’t idolize the state of Israel like the Evangelical churches do. It’s the perfect blend.

All those in Christ are alive... God is not the God of the dead but of the living

@@Theoria I don't know about that. The Bible says resurrection will only happen when Christ returns. The gospels also confirm that Jesus had siblings, so Mary cannot be a perpetual virgin. I would like to join the Othordox Church but I cannot reconcile with key fundamental beliefs.
@@Theoria why do the epistles and gospels then give little attention to Mary considering the central importance Othordox and Catholic give to her? Her death in the Bible is not even mentioned

@@thecafcl8409 neither are the apostles etc. the NT biblical canon had a very narrow rubric which was focused on Christ specifically. It wasn’t established until the fourth century either. And these external sources were not condemned (outside the gnostic gospels etc)

And ˹on Judgment Day˺ Allah will say, “O Jesus, son of Mary! Did you ever ask the people to worship you and your mother as gods besides Allah?” He will answer, “Glory be to You! How could I ever say what I had no right to say? If I had said such a thing, you would have certainly known it. You know what is ˹hidden˺ within me, but I do not know what is within You. Indeed, You ˹alone˺ are the Knower of all unseen. I never told them anything except what You ordered me to say: “Worship Allah-my Lord and your Lord!” And I was witness over them as long as I remained among them. But when You took me,1 You were the Witness over them-and You are a Witness over all things If You punish them, they belong to You after all.1 But if You forgive them, You are surely the Almighty, All-Wise.” (Quran 5:116-118)
