I’m a corporate pilot and I been flying for more than 15 years, I think you did a good choice when decided to buy the SR20 as a training plane, the only thing is that you are going to need to do later some hours on another plane with conventional yoke, that’s going to give you the bases of the feeling needed to fly any other kind of aircrafts.

So I'm a pilot at Purdue studying professional flight. I got my private in a DA20 and quickly got checked out in a 172 before college, and at Purdue, we fly SR20's. Don't get me wrong, I think its a great airplane and there is a lot that you can do with it in training, I would encurage you to fly a 172 or diamond or Cherokee as well because there are a lot of little issues I feel the sr20 has for a private trainer aircraft. It is a little overpowered for a new pilot and it's a little more "clean" as an aircraft in control. I don't know if that makes much sense but basically what I mean is that I feel like in the 172 or da20 or 160 you learn these natural stick and rudder feels that i just don't feel in the cirrus. Now as he said its great that you can keep flying it through all your other license, and if its being used beyond just training, then it is a fantastic aircraft, but if the sole purpose is training I think there are better planes on the market. (I would also like to say that of the 7 different aircraft I have flown and am checked out in, the SR20 is my favorite, so don't think i have a bias against it or anything). Also i would NOT pull out the analog flight instruments, at least not until you have your private, and maybe even after some practice with them IFR. I think that being able to read the analog gauges is an extremely important skill to have, but once you're comfortable with them, then transition to glass cockpit (which is easier to use). I think it's always good to get all the fundamentals down with you as the pilot having to know everything, and only later letting the plane take some of the load off of you (kinda like learning to actually fly the airplane and not just how to turn the autopilot on and off).

I’m glad I got my license in the venerable Cessna 172, very docile and forgiving but as soon as you acquire your PPL you want to move up to something faster and more complex. With the SR20 you’ve kind of already obtained the “fast plane” so in the long run this was probably the right decision.

I’m 21 and going to college to be a pilot!! Its barred right out of Arkansas called Henderson State University, and we mainly use maules that are for the most part IFR equipped. They get beat to hell, especially in the fall with so many new freshmen coming in to do the same thing I’m doing and you guys are doing. I seriously love what I plan on doing with my career and wouldn’t change it for anything.

Just as a pro tip for training. Fly as much as possible and try a get through training as fast as possible. For commercial build X country time because you’ll need it for ATP if you go that route. Also the sim is your best friend for instrumental rating. But love the video boys and good luck on training.

6:57 - Yup. Take full advantage of what you have, which is amazing. I'm looking forward to following both of you in progressing towards CFII in this aircraft. Not sure if this is the plan, but the current setup is perfect for actual training. One of you in front with the CFI, while the other is in the back observing and taking notes. You'll both experience all the training "twice" and it will really pay off. 13:29 - Owen rocks. He has some form of sub-aural process running that overrides any in-cockpit chatter.

Great video and great choice on the cirrus! I know you guys are COPA members.. That is probably your single best resource to learn everything Cirrus and aviation in general. Best advice on learning to fly is to go up often. Once a week is no good. Too much repetition. Go up as often as you can. Enjoy the Cirrus!

---GUYS THIS IS REMARKABLE--- As for side yoke, that’s what high end aircraft use, obviously u took that into consideration! And once u get ur certification u can get a cert for whatever else, and the fact u both need a aircraft and most likely 50-60 hrs each x2 being FORTUNATE ENOUGH and BLESSED to be able to make this happen is truly a PILOTS DREAM COME TRUE! And MOM LOVES the BALLISTIC CHUTE I’m sure because my mom is most likely like yours “ SHES WORRIES ABOUT HER BOYS” Again We r very excited and happy for you guys! Good choice for sure. Fly as often as you can and maintain/operate her meticously. At approx 16:50 I notice that your cyl #1 EGT temperature bounces around. Have your EGT/CHT harness connectors checked/cleaned. These [pre mod] are notoriously prone to fail and there is a Cirrus mod. bulletin. I suggest get the mod done, so that you get reliable temp indications which will enable you to operate your engine the proper way. Cheers & Tail winds 👍

Im a Airline pilot now but flew many GA aircraft all over the country. GTN750 is much more user friendly than the G430s . I think also the G500 would be nice but also look into the Garmin G5 units for now, they are lower cost, and give a modern touch to the panel. Enjoy the Cirrus, definitely a great airplane!

Regarding the jpi engine monitor, you're better off going with a G500TXI and using the TXI EIS system which incorporates the engine indications into the pfd. Way more streamlined than have a separate jpi and it's lighter too.

Hey guys. I rent a G1 SR20 myself. For me it all comes done to CAPS. The unique fact of having an OPTION in a single-engine airplane, should the engine quit in real IMC or flying night. And in your case, bying an airplane, I am pretty sure it is the best value just over 100k can get you.

About the wrap! I think the Cirrus wings are quite sensitive due to them being made of composite. Sticking something on there will create a different kind of heat when the sun is on it. Can't really explain but this is what we have been told by our instructors but be sure to ask someone who knows more about the Cirrus specifically
@erinchillmusic8930
@erinchillmusic8930 4 жыл бұрын
Cirrus Sr20 is a wonderful airplane for its mission BUT it is not a good trainer, here's why: try hitting one thousand foot markers engine out scenario for commercial checkride, if you're off by a few knots on your short final speed you will easily float a thousand feet past your markers and that's a fail on your checkride. I love the design of Curris though! Brilliant machine for it's mission (point A to point B). Absolutely brilliant!

Yeah, a former business partner of mine bought an SR22, I had a Piper Saratoga. I told him that it was a mistake, chicks don't dig fixed gear. I took the steam gauges out of Saratoga and put in a G600Txi along with some other upgrade (ADSB for example). It ran about $70K. I sold the airplane last March, a year and a half after the installation. I don't know exactly how much less I'd have had to sell it for or how much longer it would have taken to sell it but I do know lots less and lots longer.

I'd put in a Garmin G600 Txi touchscreen. You can get it to display engine information so you would not need a separate engine monitor. Also two new Garmin GTN 650's to replace the 430's, and a two USB power ports if you don't have them already.

Congrats on your purchase - I think if it were me, I would have gone with a C-182 because you just can't go wrong with a 182 !! 1st of all, the C-182 is all metal which is much easier to detect defects and repair. Yes composites are very strong and don't corrode, but they can delaminate and you would never know it - like some of the older A-319 vertical stab spars. I worked at a VIP large airliner FBO and once on a A319 we did this inspection where you had to get a core sample from the composite vertical stab spar and send it to a lab. If the lab results were bad, you'd trash the entire vertical. This particular aircraft the results were good and then we had our best composite guy fill the core sample with some special composite resign. I'll be honest, I'm still a little standoffish with composites although I'll get in a composite sailplane and not blink an eye however in the case of the sailplane you're talking a lightly loaded wing with insane glide ratios. But you do have a parachute on your 17 yr old SR 20 and hope to God you never have to use it. In the case of the 182, you can have a STOL mod done which gets the stall speed extremely low. If you're flying VFR try to plan your route where you pass by airports, golf courses, and lakes so if you have to go down you have an out. With lakes the idea being in an eng out, set er on the beach or in the water as close to the shore as possible. Hitting trees or buildings or power lines head on is not a good thing. The 182 is nothing to sneeze at - it's got amazing range, decent speed, great payload, and it's relatively forgiving. Because when you compare the 182 to a Cirrus, you're STILL buying 100LL or 100 no lead aviation gas. Now the Bye Electric aircraft {if they ever build them} changes the game - IF YOU COMPARE NEW TO NEW - so a new 182 is a half mill and the Bye electric 4 seat will be point 35 mill. Then the operating costs will be light years less than the 182 and that will start to make sense. HOWEVER, point 35 mill is still a ton of dough, and if you got say 125K, that will buy a darn nice used 182 which leaves you point 225 mill saved. Point 225 mill buys a whole lot of 100LL/100NL as well as eng overhauls and the maint is totally predictable. If I were that Bye guy, I would market an electric conversion kit for the C172 & 182 because the price of the new electric is still way too high and I just don't think they will sell as many as they think. My dream is to get a 182 for charter ops and maybe a dirt cheap 172 to test out an idea I have for an inexpensive hybrid drive where auto gas would be no problem to use. The idea being the electric motor is the primary drive anyways and the ICE augments the power to the prop as well as recharges the batteries JUST LIKE IN MY TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID CAR !!! Talk to you guys later - PS - do a video on your status with the Electric Bye Flyer !!! Thanks the Garden Runner.

We had no real issues on the flight home, oil ran a bit hot in the climb but cooled quickly at cruise. We have updated the databases for both Garmin units and the Avidyne Entegra. Currently the oil is being changed from Mineral to ash less detergent oil. Did you guys ever get your pilots license?

For useful load, max flying endurance at all altitudes, and bang for the buck I don't think you could have made a better choice. Durable airframe, safe, fuel efficient and well equipped.
