We flew to Pompano Beach to visit family and during this flight we answered the question... Why did you buy this plane? Looking for J2POV Swag... Head over to the store at j2pov2024.squa...

Those are excellent airplanes. The design of big engine, four seats, and constant speed propeller and fixed gear is sweet.
@j2pov8 ай бұрын
I think they paired the big motor up well with the long range tanks to make this a true affordable family flyer

What is your DMMS? If you don't know you should read about it. Placard with a piece of bright tape on your airspeed indicator. It will keep you from entering a bad situation when low and slow.

I have a Cherokee 180 with a climb prop for the mountains, its really nice, I have a lot of time in a 235 Dakota model, it was the year they put a Turbo in it. What a fantastic airplane the 235 is, load it full and fly.
@j2pov7 ай бұрын
I was really looking for a Dakota when I was looking to buy but this one took me 5 months to find. I'm not disappointed cause I really love my plane. I trained in the 180 and rented it for about 9 months before I bought mine. They are great planes but I can only imagine that with a climb prop.

Nice Cherokee! BTW, your lady is a keeper if she’s okay with driving a hoopty so that you can have the Cherokee 👍

She loves flying as much as I do so it's a win win.

Go with a GNX375. ADSB in/out xpdr with the gps. Great example of the practicality of General Aviation. Love the video!

That is one that I had my eye on for sure. Gets the best of both worlds. We are glad you enjoyed the video. Fly Good Land Gooder

235 club! For what it's worth, I sold my car and started sharing a car with my wife so that I could buy an airplane. Which was originally a Cherokee 140. I've since sold that and bought into a partnership in a 235. Looks like you also have a fixed pitch 235, just like ours. I guess there not quite as rare as I thought they were. I had a GPS175 in my 140 and we have a GNX375 in our 235. Those are basically the same device, except the 375 also has a transponder. I loved the GPS175. Surprisingly capable device and pretty cheap... well cheap as far as aviation goes. The 235 does have a secret superpower though that I'm working on a video to talk about it.
@j2pov8 ай бұрын
Yes I do have a fixed pitch and I also thought they were rare. I'm eyeing a GTN 675 but who knows what the budget will be when its time to pull the trigger. Can't wait to tell Justin your car story though!! Thanks for sharing that.
@1dullgeek8 ай бұрын
@@j2pov I think you might have meant GTN 650. That's a nice device. I like that it's got legacy NAV included in it, which makes for some nice features when shooting an ILS for example. But the one thing it doesn't have built in is bluetooth connectivity. That's an extra addon cost that the lower level units have built in. Which is really nice for building flight plans in foreflight or garmin pilot. And then getting updates when ATC gives you a reroute. A friend of mine who put a 650 in her airplane was super annoyed that she it wasn't builtin.
@j2pov8 ай бұрын
Yup you’re right I put that wrong. It is the 650. Thanks for catching that

I am concerned about getting an aircraft like this, because of the AD. It scares me. 36K per wing to fix. Going to hold off on my purchase.
@j2pov3 ай бұрын
I understand you concerns about the wing spar. I just had wing spars replaced last year when I had my pre buy inspection done so I will be good for a while. This is why it pays to have a good pre buy inspection done, to find these things. Yes it can be expensive to have it done so I'm not going to BS you about that. Find a plane that fits your mission and that has been cared for and you will have many years of happy flying

I love my Cherokee, 235! I just got it about three weeks ago, and I am absolutely over the moon. I’m still learning how to land it, since most of my time was in Cessna 172, and I flew a archer or two. But this by far is the best airplane I’ve flown. Absolutely love it! Keep flying high!

I love my airplane. I knew it was going to need some work when I got it but I couldn't be happier with my decision. Thank you for subscribing

How to land it. Is it hard to land
@RusscanFLY3 ай бұрын
@@kimskislalom not really! You just have to keep on top of your energy management just like any other Airplane. Come in too fast too high. You’re gonna float. Coming to shallow you’re gonna bounce.
@j2pov3 ай бұрын
I have to agree with Russ. I really try to cross the end of the runway at 70 and touch down around 60ish. I find that this plane can float like a champ if I’m over speed. This plane fits my mission perfectly with a useful load of 1480lbs.

Fuel is going to be the least of your worries with that thing. I see you already ran into the old avionics problem. The new wing AD will give you a heart attack. Eddy currently inspection and a limited life on the wing. I see you are in Florida. If the spar has the corrosion crack(s) you are easily looking at 35K per wing. Good luck. Also, “Copy” is not required.
@j2pov3 ай бұрын
All very good points. The new wing AD was something unforeseen when I bought the plane but I have had both spars replaced 2 years ago because my pre buy inspection found corrosion on the spars. Off I had to dump 35k into each wing, a heart attack would be the next thing to happen after I got that bill for sure. The old avionics was something I knew I would have to replace when I bought it but at least I get to make it what I want.
@747driver33 ай бұрын
@@j2pov I know i would always be thinking about that wing now. If another fails….and it will….that AD will tighten up.

I have a 69 235C and I just love her. She is out getting painted right now and should be back any day. I look forward to flying her back to OSKOSH again this year for the second time.

This one was painted 2 years ago and my tip tanks are starting to crack because of the fiberglass flexing. Im going to look at redoing those tanks soon and the interior. That being said I absolutely love my plane

I redid my wingtips about three years ago. Had a local guy who was recommended by my A&P and it cost me about $4000 each but they look beautiful.

Actually the money I saved for a down payment for a new truck was used as the down payment on my 1965 plane instead and I still drive my hooptie so I can fly a plane. It's not that I have a LOT of money... I just traded one for the other and I am happy with my decision to open new doors of adventure.
