I think there is a sizable fraction of us who never watch reality tv. I just feel like I’m always being manipulated. The show runners edit the crap out of things and set rules the audience is unaware of, and the premise of many reality tv shows is absurd or dumb. Then the people casted are usually weird fame seekers that nobody can relate to anyway. (I think Audie Cornish is great btw, I didn’t listen to the episode yet lol)

Great listen. I also started with The Real World. I now watch LAMH on OWN and a few of the Housewives franchises on Bravo. I agree that The Apprentice packaged the lowlife scammer, Trump, and rebranded him as a competent businessman. Reality tv might be dismissed and mocked but it’s no surprise that we elected a reality show president (much to our country’s detriment).

Can you imagine how incredible it would be if the Democrats got themselves in line and took over and stole the thunder of next week's Republican convention by trotting out a whole bunch of possibles to take over the party?? Who "can't look away from reality tv"? The genre has became entirely hackneyed and predictable. It has lost much of its popularity, at least outside the US and Japan. It is as entertaining today as watching a sick dog regurgitate its breakfast.
