Authoritarian countries not only claim to have genuine elections. They also insist that they have independent judges, independent journalists, independent politicians, and independent NGOs (such as trade unions or other other civic organizations meant to defend the interests of minorities, tenants, employees, patients, students, inmates, environmentalists, etc.), which in reality are state-controlled, either directly or indirectly.

elections also help old people/people believing propaganda trust in that leader and sell the dream to them that hes legit and legitimately elected. It helps a ton with keeping the most people under a shoe and keeping the dictatorship going. Corruption at a local level isn't exactly desirable for dictators. Thus you get things like this. Tax revenue is for building tanks and planes for the war, not to fatten up some mayor's already large plate of food. So local level elections help a dictator on not getting his cronies too comfortable.

The system consists of a president who has all the power, an elite class that is usually the president’s cronies, special interests above law, and ordinary citizens who know not better than obey. It's more complicated than that,, actually. There's a reason behing even the Kim dinasty's power in North Korea: Kim I led a struggle against the Japanese invaders in the North while most leaders in the South collaborated with the Japanese Imperial forces some even becoming officials in the Imperial forces - and that's the real cause of the Korean War in which the US led UN forces sided with the collaborators. The UN forces dropped so many bombs over North Korea that almost all cities - including villages - were completely destroyed. There is some level of real popular support for the Kim dinasty - it's not all fake nor the result of political oppression. The same, btw, is true of Russia - according to a Russia based puplic opinion companyh, Putin's popularityu has never dropped bellow 60% after it skyrocketed because of how he dealt with the Kursk submarine catastrophe. The reason why it never fell bellow 60% can be easily seen in the Russian life expectancy graph - linked bellow. None of these cases are the same, btw and very few dictatorships stay in power only because they are oppressive and violent. I'll put Belarus alongside Ukraine and Russia in the life expectancy graph and it will be easy to understand why Lukachenko is still in power and why he faces no serious opposition. Belarus is the line at top - the one in which you can't find the two dips the graphs from Russia and Ukraine show during the 1990s. data.worldbank.org/indicator/SP.DYN.LE00.IN?end=2022&locations=RU-UA-BY&start=1989 I was born in the early 70s in Brazil and we had elections - honest, fair and clean elections. To maintain the control, the regime removed positions they considered strategic from the elections and 1 or 2 thirds of Congress was filled by people appointed by the regime. In 1975 a new president was appointed, Gen. Ernesto Geisel who held election in that same year - and the opposition won over 90% of all positions available. Pres. Geisel did nothing becasue his goal was to dismantle the regime and bring the country back into democratic rule. A civilian president would be appointed by Congress in 1985 and presidential elections would be held again only in 1989. It took over 10 years from the appointment of Gen. Geisel to the presidency until a Civilian was elected and nearly 15 years until a presidential election could be held - it wasn't quick but the transition was well done.

In Albania the socialist party (old PPSH communist party in power for 47 years1944-1991 socialist party of Albania 1991-1992 ) is in power since 2013 with the prime minister in power since then Edi rama in the party were not elections for new party leader since then i think after 2100 the party will still be in power because the people like it more Rama is a Pro west and pro east has small similarities with world dictators and Democrats leaders if you ask me you will not notice it if you are not Albanian because oly we know what is happening in ure country.

For as long as they have impunity, they cannot be stopped.
First of all, there are so many nations, cultures, and people in this world so thinking that one government form is best and should be implemented all over the world is impractical in itself. Many countries do better with monarchy, while many did better with dictatorship and many did great with dictatorship. A good form of government can only be considered if it does best to secure the well-being and interests of its citizens. There's a reason why democracy failed in Afghanistan yet successful in the USA. It shows how vastly people and their cultures differ from each other. I went to Russia last year and the people there are happy with their government. I talked to many locals in both rural and urban Russia during my visit and almost got the same kind of answer, they are doing great despite the dictatorship. Just thinking that in Democracy people can choose the government doesn't mean it will be a good government. The politics of democracy can manipulate the mindset of people too. In the end, it's a paradox. Any type of government can be good or bad based on the circumstances of that nation.

Yeah except Russia may not be the internally Terrible Dictatorship, just externally. I'ma say what I think I say. Ukrainians, simply don't want to be liberated. Even if it's Dictatorship prosperous for it's people, it's at the risks and costs of other nations. Besides they may not even answer you honestly on the subject due to how Dictatorships work. Take example I am about to name that happened from a friend of my Geography teacher who visited North Korea and came back. To Tell this. They restricted the friend's access to only few zones which are usually pre-set to Tourists, the friend asked them to see daily life.. Few days go by, they then allow him to see a grandmother in a wooden shack with a luxurious Television, but terrible lighting because it had no lights, since the electricity, wasn't even installed in that shack.. To quote my teacher: "They put a grandmother in a shack with a television and didn't think it through." I assure you. If you are allowed to see something, they usually WANT, you to see it, and it can be under their Conditions to hide the truth or manipulate factsm

@jasonhaven7170 Where did you get the information about him being racist and Imperialist?
@KoenDeKapoen5 ай бұрын
@@dreamcastfanatic9548even if he was it is not a relevant question. The question is: why do you get killed for having a different idea? Navalny was pro democracy and he tried to make Russia a democracy but he was killed for this. Just look on the internet what they say about his ideology. These Russian trolls wont tell you. I for example see that he was not very pro migration and that he indeed said some nasty stuff about for example Georgia. But he was against the invasion of Ukraine and he wanted a fair referendum in Crimea. (I think a referendum would never be fair there seen all the deportations since Stalin). And again, if you think Putin is any less racist or imperialist, think again. Remember that Putin does everything he has in his power to let the opposition look bad.
