Can you do something on if you use ethernet (no wifi) what security you need to still look at? Thanks!

Thanks for the video. Regarding setting up your own VPN, what will the experience be like on Netflix? Currently, when I'm on any VPN, netflix shows me only the content that's globally available (it does not show me stuff that it's available in my region). Is this the same with setting up your own VPN?
@sunknudsen4 жыл бұрын
It depends how Netflix flags the IP of the VPN. If it flags the IP as normal, you should see the content available in the country in which the VPN terminates. To watch content available where you are, you would need to disable the VPN or use a proxy to bypass the VPN (which adds complexity and latency).

I like your channel, but I admit, some of the technical info goes over my head. LoL I have to watch your videos at least twice to take it all in. I plan on getting a new iMac soon and I'm going to watch more of your videos. How do I set up my new iMac with ultimate privacy? What wi-fi router should I buy? I'll be replacing my 2014 Apple Express (802.11n wi-fi router but Apple no longer makes the Airport router. What type of modem is best? You've given me so much to think about now. You need more subscribers because your videos are helpful. New subscriber.

Thanks for the push and glad to read you are more conscious about the technology you use now. I have a lot to share to answer your questions... but the answers need context and nuance. I will consider putting together an episode on the subject.

How will people that uses routers from ISP providers will update the fw? In that case people are dependent on the ISP.
@sunknudsen3 жыл бұрын
I recommend using our own routers when possible vs the one supplied by our ISPs.
@Kurt0133 жыл бұрын
@@sunknudsen But, at least in my case, that's not possible since it's router and ONT on the same device. What i can do is deactivate the WiFi from the ISP router, and use from another one.

You should have mentioned that you *can not* rely on router manufacturers to update their firmware. Many of which have failed to do so in the past and will undoubtedly fail to deliver in the future. Control over your router's OS is therefor imperative.
@sunknudsen4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing and unfortunately true. Choosing a good manufacturer is important. I personally like Ubiquiti. The EdgeRouter X is an amazing router that runs EdgeOS, an operating system based on Debian.
@KutAnimus4 жыл бұрын
@@sunknudsen Still, all of those manufacturers provide a proprietary OS. I think it's better to go with routers that support OS'es such as OpenWRT.

Depends on the use case, but I agree open source is better. That being said, I recommend removing as much network-level trust as possible using firewalls and routing one’s traffic through trustworthy VPNs that terminate in countries with good privacy legislation.

hi sun, please do a review on vivaldi browser
@sunknudsen4 жыл бұрын
Hey Rutvik, Vivaldi is already on my research backlog. Quick research points out that the browser is no longer open source which is disturbing (see vivaldi.com/source/). That being said, the advertised governance is intriguing (owned by its employees with not outside investors). Keeping it on my radar!
@jebbush25274 жыл бұрын
Sun Knudsen it’s not open source but it’s source available (ie you can’t fork it but you can still audit it)
