That roof is outstanding. Your team taking the time and effort to adjust so that there are no cuts to make the edges work out and the courses are all the same clear to the top speaks volumes about how well this home is being built. Great job. Thanks for the videos

I like the look of the synthetic slate and have considered it but even UV rated plastic breaks down in sunlight over time and I just can’t do it. Love this channel, keep ‘em coming.

It's interesting seeing the long stretches of lead used. In the UK guidance is to cut at a maximum of every 150cm and overlap neighbouring joints, to help prevent the expansion leading to buckling/twisting/splitting.
@NSBuilders
@NSBuilders Жыл бұрын
Interesting. Never heard of that.
@djhago3123
@djhago3123 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I thought that was a rule with lead... it rips hole's in the lead if its not done in sections the rolls in Ireland are usually 6m so we cut them in 2m sections or 6'6" sections with a minimum of 5" overlap.. with all the movement in expansion and contraction you are only meant to nail the top of it so it can move easier...

interesting call on the material. Though man that roof would be beautiful in cedar. Also would be good to paint the PVC vent pipe in black or wrap in copper. Would be a much nicer finish.

Fine looking roof, might look into it as a weight saving option for my trailer. Few Q's: __1 square weighs? __White stack going to be skinned with copper or shingle color sleeve? __probably need DaVinci to answer but, IF one must cut a shingle vertically, is there a solvent to meld 2 cut pieces together? __IF a piece needed shortening and maintain a flush look, will it belt sand down or will the belt gum up? __Woodpeckers a problem on roof tiles? I've seen them bang through plastic siding. THANKS!!!

@NSBuilders

Hope this helps "DaVinci Roofscapes offers manufactured slate tile that has Class A or Class C Fire Rating according to ASTM E108 specifications. Only materials that will guarantee your safety and the safety of your property and surrounding properties during a fire should be used for roofing."

@NSBuilders
@NSBuilders Жыл бұрын
According to their specs "Our products are backed by a Lifetime Limited Materials Warranty on residences and a 50-year warranty on commercial projects.” Even though they don't give you a number, you can expect to get around 40-50 years of life out of a DaVinci roof as long as it's installed correctly."

love your building work and thoughtfullness but you could have done a pleated copper valley like they do with traditional slate. Solder isnt necessary.

A lot of composite shingle companies make composite siding. Would you consider using composite siding as well in the future? It might be more in cost, but no maintenance in the future

What is the price differential compared to cedar? Most of the houses in the town I live in are cedar roofs, many that need replacing, and I'm sure this product would go down well here.
@NSBuilders

I would check with local suppliers. Every market is different. At the time it was about a 25% savings but cedar has since stabilized more

Why did they put in a bright white stack vent??? Was Black not available? It really pulls your eye to the sewage vent. The contrast! Not aesthetic at all! Fail. 😫
