What a wonderful gift you have to cast a negative shaddow over an experience! While watching, I was thinking just that, and then you commented on your drinks being just 'ok' when your fellow revealed that you said it was the 'best you ever had', lol! Ice cream shops, mmm-mmm really good tacos, sandy beaches, sunsets, best drinks ever...doesn't seem such a bad place? Learn from your fellow and turn that frown upside down girl! :D
@DrifterJourney Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Our main issue is the cost of everything there being high compared to other parts of Baja. We enjoy all of our experiences in Baja but won't be spending much time in San Felipe due to cost.......and we like a lot of other spots much better.
@goldengirls01259 ай бұрын
@@DrifterJourneyI was thinking the same thing as the above commenter. I think the reason you may see prices a little higher is the proximity to Usa. Usually it takes time to find the cheaper spots as well. I just can’t seem to get a feel on this area after seeing several videos whether its cute or not . Hard to tell but I’m Los Angeles and looking for a close place to drive to. Safe travels
@DrifterJourney7 ай бұрын
@goldengirls0125 hi. I just saw your comment foe the first time. You are correct about prices due to proximity to the border. It's still a cute little town that is quite busy. We know a lot of southern California folks that love to jump down for a day or 2. Our view is comparing it to all the other places we've spent on the Baja peninsula. I'd say it's definitely worth a visit if you're heading that way. A little San Felipe, Ensenada, wine country loop would be nice.

This lady is complaining about paying 300 pesos for a camp site, which is under 20 dollars. She probably spent more then that on just the best drink she and he man ever had. Hahahaha. I wonder how much she pays for a camp site in the other places she frequents? Oh, and they still have sponsors hahahahaha wow.
@DrifterJourney7 ай бұрын
@Titolicious the reality is you know nothing about us and you want to write ignorant comments. We are very frugal and rarely pay to camp. Out of the 5 plus years living full time in a van, we probably paid for less than 10 nights of camping in the United States and Canada. We generally try to find free camping in Baja too but we splurge occasionally. Our splurge is $10 per night for beautiful camps in Bahia Conception or downtown Loreto. We are just stating the San Felipe camping is expensive relative to other parts of Baja for the lack of amenities or beauty. And drinking........we very rarely go out for drinks because it's way overpriced. I barely even buy beer at the store anymore because I don't find the spend worth it.

Did I miss why you didn’t like San Felipe? I mean… kinda great for us that love it. The bad publicity keeps everyone away 😂
@DrifterJourney Жыл бұрын
Just the lack of camping, the fact that there's not much about it that feels authentic... but everyone has their own style and I'm sure some people don't like our favorite spots either 😉

Thanks for watching! That's really the worst of it. Everything seems more expensive there due to the proximity to the border. We haven't had the best food either although we found some good tacos.

Thanks for watching! It really isn't bad. We just don't like the inflated prices (to be expected so close to the border). We were just there about a month ago and found some gems of places to eat so it gained a few points in our book. Our biggest complaint is the cost to camp near town. That is still a rip off compared to many other places on the peninsula.

Our opinions change sometimes as we visit places again. It's still far from the top of our places to visit list for Baja. The algorithm likes catchy words in titles so sometimes we have to play that game.

Thanks for watching! 300 pesos is expensive when you're on a tight budget.....and when it's much cheaper to stay in many other more beautiful places for the same or much less. Thanks for correcting our pronunciation. The van was expensive (not nearly as much as you stated) but we used our savings for it and still have a low income.

Free camping is one of the best parts of traveling in Baja and that's part of why San Felipe is such a bummer. But there are free areas outside of town that we've enjoyed and we would stay there again as we pass through. I'm drooling for some good tacos right now!

I really don't like San Felipe... the beaches are dirty (I alwas pick up trash and it has more trash than most)...most of the beaches smell like dead fish...the hotels/campsites are expensive. It's just not what it could be and used to be (I've been driving down the Baja since the 90's when it was dirt roads). In the last 5 years or so, we usually stay at a particular place but are hoping to find a regular place under $120 USD a night...there are a few (that we've stayed in) but bed bugs, roachs and mold don't appeal. Don't get me wrong, i love Mexio and live on the Baja for 4 months a year...I'm used to Mexico...San Felipe just has a bad vibe. ILet me know what you think about this...I feel like no one wants to be there...the folks that live there want to leave and the US/American/Van Dweller/Travelers are all just passing through. If it weren't for the races this place wouldn't be on the map. We'll be back on Dec 13th on our way down South and hope the place we are staying this time is worth the cost. Be good Drifter Journey, stay cool ☮☮

Thanks for watching and also sharing your thoughts! Some of the other comments disagreed with us but we hear and feel most of what you're saying there. I know a lot of people that love it and we try to find the best in every place. With that said....it's Baja expensive and there are so many other more enjoyable places for us down there. Todos Santos is another one that many people love that we aren't in love with personally. No matter what, we always find good tacos!

Yeah San Felipe is a shell of its former self. Twenty-five years ago it was amazing, the place to be. Every single business was open, malecon was packed. I was there in 2019 after a 13 year hiatus and was so bummed. Check out "Restaurante Museo Valle de Mexicali" when you pass through towards the border. Really cool place..... Thanks for the comment and the part that you did watch. I'll sum it up for you. Camping, restaurants, and drinks are more expensive and less desirable to us than many other parts of Baja (obviously due to its proximity to the border). Other than that, it's an alright spot to stop.
