You touched on horses being sold & then passed around & ended up being abused. That is the problem you can only control the first sale & after that, they are on their own. I'm 74 yrs old & had horses my whole life. I am very careful when buying, because they are never leaving here. For me it is a lifetime commitment. My horses are buried all over here. My worst fear is that my horses outlive me. With me it has always been.."all about the horse". I really enjoy your videos & your training methods - kind, slow & give them time to understand what you're asking. Thank you.

I kept every horse I had for as long as I could, most till death, did my best to sell to good homes. Loved all of them. Love these videos as well!

the 'trick' I teach mine is to "assume the position" which means get yourself into a position where I can step onto the saddle from whatever I climbed on to use as a mounting block, be it ditch, tailgate, tree stump, rock, fence. I never saw any sense in stretching a horse, they look better standing square.

Another lovely and thoughtful video, thank you. A horse trainer gets a horse to do something, a true horseman has horses who enjoy doing what is asked.

I haven't even watched the video yet, but I LOVE the title! As far as that goes, I'm pretty sure I'm going to agree with the content, as usual. So much common sense and reason.

I watch horse videos even though I dont ride, or know much about horses but my dad was a horse whisperer and even though he lived to 99, I didnt see him working horses much. I think of my dad when I watch these and even though its bittersweet, I get to feel like he is close when I watch the horses.Soothing and comforting. Thanks for posting and being calm with this beauty.

The "trick" I taught my horses was to always pee before putting on a saddle or harness. That's really helpful, esp. on competition days.

Teaching tricks like tearing on command should be treated with the same respect as bite training for dogs.

There is lots of people wanting to teach their horses to rear! I don't understand why that would be a good idea just teaches a dominant behaviour. I have had a few people telling me to teach my stallion these party tricks. Practical and giving space training is handy but turning a behind on the human or rearing and chasing is idiotic in my own opinion.

Teaching a horse to rear should only be done by professionals. I remember hearing a story of someone who bought a horse who would rear up whenever they put their leg on whilst riding - they got the horse vet checked, nothing was medically wrong with the horse. Turns out, a previous owner had taught the horse to rear on command by using touching the area where the rider's legs made contact as a cue and not told future buyers. It should be treated with the same respect as bite training a dog.

Even being taught by a professional is a bad idea.

Serious training doesn't teach party tricks. Party tricks are a nonsense!
