🎉🎉thank you so much for speaking up about this. As a mother of a child that dances you are amazing role models for kids that might not end up fitting a mould. It also means others might feel confidence t o speak up and open important dialogues so things can change. If you get to wake up every day doing something you love power to you, you both deserve the world
Easy to see why Jasmin was the “Poster Girl” for your Arts School . . . No one’s eyes smiles like hers when she dances. I stumbled across your “shorts” just last week and every one of them makes me smile and have brightened my day. You two are a gorgeous couple. Thank you for sharing your time and gifts with us. You have gained a follower, as old as he is, in North Carolina. May God return the warmth you’ve imparted tenfold!!!

The part about the portrayal of EDs and such in dance media being accurate is so true. I did hip hop and folk dancing as a kid and teenager, and my hip hop classmates had a burning need to be the right shape and size. (Not so much the folk dancers.) I was in ballet as a very small child and then when the studio I was at closed around the same time my parents were getting divorced, we just didn't find another studio, so I went through most of my child and teen years knowing what ballet was and thinking maybe someday I'd do it again, but never getting back into a ballet class. Then when I was 22 I found a studio (the same studio I'd done hip hop at as a teenager) with adult recreational ballet classes, and I started attending. I love it, I was a quick learner, my teacher scooped up myself and three other students who'd all "started" as adults in the last 1-3 years and convinced us to train for a Royal Academy of Dance exam. We registered to do the RAD 6 exam and suddenly our teacher had comments about our weight. Suddenly she was asking us to destroy our very expensive under garments to modify our very unflattering standardized purple leotards so that we looked better in them without looking like we had under garments. Suddenly she had opinions and demands about our hair, our street shoes, our waiting posture outside. Even when I was training with her 5 days a week at the age of 23, never since puberty have I weighed less than 130lbs (roughly 59kg.) Thankfully I was 23 and had the life experience and perspective to know that changing my body as fast as my teacher wished I would wasn't healthy and realize how silly it was that she was asking me to do something my body does not easily do for the sake of pleasing an examiner who probably felt we were wasting her time already for being 20-somethings doing a preteen's exam. But if I'd been one of the 12 year olds who were also taking that exam? I might have decided to survive on 3 bananas a day and water or something ridiculous like that. I even remember when the studio got our results and my teacher called us one by one to come receive our feedback. She was devastated to have to tell us that no one got "with Distinction" and only one got "with Merit." I asked "but did we all pass?" She said yes. I'm like "Great! That's all we wanted. We're in our 20s doing a child's exam. Company auditions aren't in our future." She had to think about that for a while.

You guys are so refreshing and cute. I saw a documentary a few years ago in which a ballet teacher from America mixed ballet and hip hop. He opened a dance school and the young people love it. He say that the people run away from ballet because it don‘t fit in the time anymore. And when we look back in time, you can see that new dances have been created again and again. And when we mix dances and everyone dances the way they like it, new beautiful dances will be created. Much Love to you and stay free, wild, creative and healthy. Greetings from Germany 🌿❤️🌿

Being in such an environment is very unhealthy and I am happy for you that you managed to do the jump. I am about to jump out of something different right now and it helps to see that others had the same struggles. It is not my fault to be anxious because it IS difficult. Thanks for sharing. It helps me to make my own jump soon.

And I am 50 years old. How can a theater, a company or a ballet school afford to ignore this communication channel. For the first time in the history of dance, we can reach people around the world in a way that only musicians have been able to. What could be wrong or bad about that?

Jasmin and James, you are absolutely adorable! Thank you for sharing and being so honest about the toxicity of the ballet world. It is so infuriating how these types of schools along with rhythmic gymnastics and figure-skating can still exist and affect millions of individuals making them insecure and unhealthy! It is indeed beautiful how they perform, but I don't believe that this end justifies the means. I am really glad that you guys decided to take such a big step and move in the different direction and be so happy now, honestly, my heart melts when I see you dancing or talking together. I believe that you have chosen the best path for yourselves, and I am excited to see you succeed in it, you are already doing sooo well! Ballet, opera, and classical music haven't always been for the upper classes. Operas in particular were the soap operas of their days, and many included a ballet movement. It's a shame that these arts have earned this reputation over time. They should be accessible to all, but tickets prices make that a challenge these days. Many are also stuck in the past you note.

I totally know the pain of hip dysplasia! I’ve had hip dysplasia since birth and have had almost 30 surgeries for it. My biggest was my femoral osteotomy and usually they only cut a small part of the femur, but because my dysplasia was so severe, they had to cut through my entire femur, then it was turned, and held together with a plate and screws while the bone healed back into one piece. I hope your hips doesn’t give you too much grief! You’re an incredible dancer (you both are) and it’s so awesome to hear about your dance journeys! ❤️

As someone who loves going to the Theatre to see a good play, the last time I booked a ticket was after I saw an excerpt of the play on youtube. The Arts world cannot ignore social media it needs to work with it. Going to the ballet in the UK is still quite expensive and elitist, so being able to watch ballet videos on youtube makes it accessible and brings a new audience.

I'd love to meet you and I know the students would appreciate it. I've been doing ballet since I was 5 and jazz since I was about 8. I started tap a few years ago. Thanks for sharing. I must say you have a very holistic view on life, which I think is very uncommon for people your age. 👍 That said, may I suggest you try to fix the acoustic issues in your studio? The "easy" approach is to use an active solution with expensive echo-cancelling ( DSP ) on the recording side. But if you want to have a better sound experience yourself, you should fix the room with a mix of "Bass Traps" ( corners ) + Resonating absorbers ( Helmholtz ) or diffusers on the ceilings and walls. ( Sometimes some Faux Suede Shag Rugs mounted on two orthogonal walls will do the trick. ) 😉 If you can provide some dimensions of the room, I will try my best to calculate the resonance frequencies. Maybe other followers will come up with a better/cheaper solution. 🤔

There's a saying that if you love what you do for your job, you will never "work" a day in your life. Clearly James and Jasmin have found a hobby that they love and turned it into a full-time career, so theoretically they never have to work. I've always had the opinion that it's better to have no job at all than one you dread going to every day. I've had those jobs in the past and I can say from experience that it's not at all good for your mental health. From everything they said, James and Jasmin were headed for some serious mental health issues if they stayed where they were - a stagnated, out of touch world that only cares about its own public image. Well done to both of them for having the courage to step away from that toxic environment and branch out on their own. They have inspired so many people through social media (not that I'm a fan of that platform in general) but mostly through their KZbin videos, which are always fun to watch, whether they be dance-related or just two people having a fun day out with the family on the water (for example). Australia is better because you chose to make this place your home. Hopefully one day Jasmin will choose to become a permanent citizen (and her beautiful mum too if she wants).

Question: It must of been a smart move leaving the world of professional ballet for Social Media dancing and being content creators. I would of thought entry level ballet dancing is long hours and poor pay. Also only the top dancers of ballet become famous and earn alot of money. So from income point of view this must a very smart move? I am not into ballet but really enjoy your dance shorts. I also like this is a great social media success story. If you have not done already be interested in a video about the business side, content creation, how you created you channel and if the channel is your main income and if you have any other income streams. Social media can be constantly evolving with income going up and down as well as views and popularity. Do you have any plans to pivot or move into other areas/ income streams? Best of luck with your future endeavours. Your an example to other young adults just starting out.
