Selamat Hari Merdeka to you both and all my Malaysian friends and collegues. Your videos are amazing, I try to watch them as soon as I get the notification. In your most recent blog, I could not agree more, most of the people of Malaysia are wonderful and very helpful. I have lived and worked as an ex pat in this wonderful country for 30+ years and I have seen the country change so much over the past 30 or so years, but one thing that hasn't changed is the warmth of the people. Sure the population has increased and the city of KL has grown (now it resembles a concrete jungle, within a jungle). I witnessed the building of the iconic Petronas Twin Towers back in the mid 90's, given the weather and electrical storms that Malaysia experiences, what an incredible engineering feat it was! And yes, they are a "must bucket list entry", the views are fabulous. The highway system is amazing (a little scary at times and yes it jams at specific times) but if you choose when to drive, one can easily get around with no problem (yes, I drive around but I also use the Grab Car system which is just the best)! Food, a special topic with me as I am a Chef, and your right "on the money" with your comments about food, simply diverse and amazing! Everybody eats out in Malaysia so it's no wonder that there is a huge range, food can be found just about on any corner in any city or village. With the multicultural society the range is huge as you both have discovered. One of my favourite places is also Penang, and the Jawa Laksa..... Other places of interest include Melaka, an old original seaside port of Dutch influence dating back to the late 1700's, also a bucket list must, particularly Jonker Street and the river boat ride (that you also mentioned) through the centre of this town. I don't know if you got to visit the "bus restaurant strip" just on the outer edge of town, its an area of old buses that have been converted into eateries and its great, located on the newly man made beach area. The entire area was previously ocean, which is now reclaimed over the last 10 years or so, definitely worth a look. Anyway, enough from me. I hope you both have a truely wonderful Merdeka day and thanks so much for your blogging, it is really inspirational! Please keep up the fantastic reviews and information, I am 100% sure that many travellers will get benefit from you efforts. Well done........

Loved the start of this vid with the flag-waving, smiles and that heartbeat-like music. Nice touch. That you've been here 7 months out of your 2+ years away from home is bloody amazing. You've seen our Prime Minister, witnessed history made with the change of government and taken us all on an incredible journey through your beautiful eyes. You're the epitome of what I always tell people.."Don't just exist..live." And gosh..have you ever.. Your personal story as 2 people who embarked on this adventure is epic because every step forward has been made through really hard work and your bond with each other has shone through. You've stayed true to yourselves and achieved so much more than most people do in a lifetime. You're good peeps with bright, stunning souls and will always have a place in Malaysia as one of us. Wherever you go and whatever you do, may the world always greet you with cold beer and warm hearts. Till the next.. :)

Michelle Yeoh is from Malaysia too. Her character in Star Trek Discovery, Captain Phillippa Georgiou is from Langkawi Island and she speak English in Malaysian accent. I did not realise the Malaysian accent (since I am so used to it) until I read some complaints about her character and her accent over twitter, for not speaking 'normal' English, whatever that mean. If you love Crazy Rich Asian, you should also watch Onion review of that movie. It is a satire channel, and it was hillarious. Have a great weekend to you both.
