Whenever I sit still with any moment or happening that gets under my skin...causes me anxiety or palpable frustration.... I see it is about control - specifically a moment of its apparent failure (I say apparent only because control "working" is also only apparent) - and then I want to say that is about, ultimately, a fear of death. Then I see we have perilously bound our desperate fear of loss of control to death - the ultimate loss of this (so-called) control. I think it isn't just a disconnection from the rest of nature, but modernity and civilization as we know it is an active pushing away and shutting out the processes of nature and denying we are also a part of them. Every *comfort and *convenience, everything we build or engineer or learn is in an effort to separate humans from the rest of the world and declare that we are not subject to Your laws! We make the laws! We are the agents, we are the knowers, we are the only doers of importance! THen it's tempting to ask "why are we so messed up?"...which one notices is also a separation of our "human condition" from the ecologies of which we are inextricably a part, from which we co-emerge with all the rest of life and being. So I wonder then if our modern madness must not itself also be a part of a global (not just human) process. Modernity is itself maybe like a post traumatic response, with the human body being an organ of the earth which is processing something that is way beyond "us", but that within this human organ of the world is experienced in this solipsistic consciousness. THe human ( i would re-emphasize *modern human of the last couplefew thousand years (out of tens if not hundreds of thousands of years of human beings living on AND with this earth) - and there are contemporary humans who have NOT been so hit by this fever in other cultures which haven't been infected by this uber-cultural Organism) is an agent of the earth running a fever in itself to metabolize .....something...... and everything that "I" experience now, I am less and less inclined to pathologize, but instead see as globally processual. Pathology is a language of policing...control... containment..... but life is not containable... not objectifiable... not dissectible but to destroy it in that process.... cells trying to excise themselves from the larger body? It gets tricky because this language has long been tailored to perform only these categorizing/isolating functions - thank god for the antidote of poetry which always sneaks through like a trickster. We run from the monstrous....but the monstrous is only that which shows us we are not really in control and so what we have labeled frighteningly to keep us looking or running away from those things to maintain our control fever... and also that fever and that process is NOT solely human.....we are enacting processes larger than us even in that which appears to be at odds with the rest of the living world. Our emancipation from this fever, if that is meant to be, is to wander out past the city walls and find and embrace the monstrous that we worked so hard to push out...and discover we were always a part of each other and longing to be reintegrated. Ha. Or something like that.

Wow thank you so much for such an in depth share. I want to take time and really sit with your words and come back meaningfully. So I shall do just that tomorrow morning. But for now just wanted to acknowledge and honour you for your share. I’ll be back soon

Wow, I just read in full your comment. So interesting and intriguing. You've really got me thinking about how we have bound our fear of loss of control to death - the ultimate loss of control. Plus that modernity is to create the separation of humans from nature. Every word fascinating and such a beautiful way to end with the reintegration of these parts of life like death that we have separated from, yet which are not as monstrous as we make them out to be. Thank you for being here, thank you for watching my video and thank you for sharing in such depth

Wow, such a powerful conversation. You always have such amazing guests, but I really connected with Wilka's wisdom, perspective, and examples. I liked how she mentioned us going through a "life review" connected with certain items and experiences, and you echoed this about your recent car purchase. I don't consider myself too sentimental, but I admit that I have done this quite a bit. The "life review" sparked a memory for me. I had the pleasure of playing music with a fantastic folk artist in Colorado Spring, Colorado, named Joe Uveges. His song "Perfection" speaks to death and reflecting on those close in our lives that we hope to meet again someday. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGfSXp2voNx_ZqM

Ahhhh Joe, thank you so much for this and sorry I’m a bit late on this. I am so pleased you connected to this episode. The life review is such a beautiful practice. I love to bring connection to when I spot an ending happening in my life - big and small - and just to hold space for myself to see what’s coming up. I’m often surprised. I’m going to be listening to Joe Uveges’ Perfection today. Thank you for sharing that 💛💛💛
