Prajal sir, the well you are mentioning was used by st.Francis Xavier when he stayed in goa an that's why a church was constructed over there with the well in the middle because people use to believe it to be holy, latter on it was covered because people started misusing the well, sir you must be aware that goan temples have ponds an not wells.

@@LuzianJ no this particular church was built in the the 17th century, an this was the place where st. Francis Xavier stayed when he came to goa. The Adil shah place which was destroyed is in a different places, there are marking done where the palace existed an some remains of the palace is still there. There was no temple at that spot, an remember when all people specifically gaunkars got converted all temples which were in goa at that time were abandoned by the locals, because new religion taught them that what they were following earlier were evil practices. This temples were of mud an stones an since they were abandoned an nobody took care of this structures it collapsed because of whether conditions. But people who came to goa in such of jobs during Portuguese time spread this rumors that this temples were destroyed by the Portuguese, always remember only gaunkars of the villages were this temples existed has a right to complain or protest if they think that this temples were actually destroyed because all temples were built by the gaunkars of the village with their own contributions an on the their own lands. An remember before 1510 all the locals who were there were only gaunkars. Rest of the people who now claims to be goans came to goa during Portuguese rule in such of jobs.

@@LuzianJ to tell you the truth, what history you here about goa is made by people who have no knowledge an no connection to goa, an who came to goa during Portuguese rule an claiming to be goans. When the bjp government was formed recently in goa they said they will rebuild all temples destroyed during Portuguese rule, when they actually wanted to find where this temples were they could locate any of them an the answer given in the state assembly was that there are no records available of the destroyed temples.

This is not the well used by St. Francis Xavier. There is another Chapel and we'll next to the ruins of St. Paul College. By the time the St. Francis xavier died on 3rd Dec 1552 and St. CAJETAN CHURCH WAS COMPLETED IN 1661. PLEASE READ HISTIRY FIRST AND COMMENT.

@@lourencodafatimasouza1479 the history of the well was told to me by the priest who use to conduct retreat at old goa for school children more then 30yrs back. Agreed an I also know that the church was completed in 1661, but the well was built long before the construction of the church.

There is no cross on the church because it is built according to model of St Peter's basilica in Vatican...it also has no cross on it

There were many wells in Old Goa which were dug for water used for construction of Churches. These wells were filled when the plague infected due to mosquito breedin in these wells.

The big stones were brought from Bassein One of the seven islands of Bombay. The people say that the Goan Churches were built by using manpower called Palistos actually they are followers of St. PAUL and they were Paulists. Mostly ancient churches are built close to river front for transportation of Stones by boats. Quarrying was not done in Goa. That is the reason old Temples and houses are built of mud mixed with lime Jaggery and kept for maturing.

. I enjoyed seeing this well 6:47 below the altar in the late 70s 80s 90s... . there were three coffins in a room behind the church ... which missed the ship ... back to Portugal December 1961 . Visited the Church December 2019.. SAD the entire floor was covered by cement twice since 2000 A lot of history written on the stone floors ( all tombs ) is not read anymore . .

Not Shefali Vaidya, please. She's a Pune-based housewife who never moved her fat butt and did any actual investigative research of the Inquisition records. The result is that her Goa history videos are pure bullshit based on MGP pro-Merger propaganda from the 1960s. Ask Agostino Borromeo and Alan Machado instead (professional historians that investigated Vatican and Lisbon archives on activities of the Inquisition).

Nope, even contemporary records of the neighbouring Vijayanagar Empire don't support her narrative. Note that the Vijayanagar rulers were powerful Hindus who remained allied with the Portuguese during this time period. If there were such anti-Hindu brutalities taking place, then the Vijayanagar Empire would have turned on the smaller Portuguese forces and crushed them.

Note that the majority of Goans remained in the Velhas Conquistas instead of leaving because they preferred the leadership of the Portuguese to that of your ancestors.

This comment is not against Muslims in any way It's just that when fights used to happen between Kadambas and the Sultanate they the sultanate would plunder temples as a sign of victory often no.
