Why Wilderness

Canoeing in the Boundary Waters of Northern Minnesota, I often find myself reflecting on what wilderness means to me and why I choose to spend so much time in it.
A place separated from the unyielding pace of civilization, a place of solitude and silence, the B.W.C.A. is a wilderness often in the crosshairs of the conservation effort. It’s all this and more that makes the Boundary Waters so special to me. It’s a wild place that continues to draw me back, reminding me why it’s so important to have spaces like this - wild places that cause us to reflect on what’s important and help us connect with the deeper parts of ourselves.
