Join me on this 4 day solo canoe trip where I paddle and portage through the Adirondack wilderness. I really enjoyed my time alone on this summer canoe trip, hearing nothing more than the rain on my tent and the sounds of the loons. The views were breathtaking! This trip gave me the best of both worlds - the ability to both push myself and also relax and unwind.
On Day 1, I got to Adirondack Park in the early afternoon and so I camped overnight on an access lake where I parked. I was lucky enough to wind up camping in an Adirondack leanto and made what turned out to be an amazing (and easy) camp meal on the fire - smoked queso dip! Day 2, I started a 3 day loop portaging and paddling a chain of lakes when a thunderstorm hit early in the day. I took shelter and hunkered down under a pine tree until it passed. Later in the day I set up base camp across from a beautiful mountain for nights 2 and 3. Day 3 was my favorite day of this canoe trip by far. I hiked a mountain and caught my first ever brook trout! Of course, the first fish I would catch in nearly 15 years would go completely bonkers...
This trip had everything I wanted...both sunshine and thunderstorms, long portages, hiking, fishing, tent camping, camping in a lean-to, good camp food, and solitude. I love the Adirondacks!!

You got the right attitude. I’ve been doing the backcountry stuff for 30+ years and I forget that sometimes what it’s like to experience these things. It’s refreshing watching someone learning as they are going. Nice catch and thanks for not editing it out because it fell off. Too many people try to show how confident they are with everything when they clearly are not. The pad Thai is my favourite. The lime Amirite! Just returned to add this to the comment. As I was writing the post as you pulled out the meal. Glad you enjoyed it. I normally only eat two meals per day while out so for me two servings is perfect but that’s just me.

Hey Mark. Late to the party here but I spent decades in the Adirondacks. My family as well. Including Speculator as Jim Fraser mentioned. Beautiful country. You really captured the magic of the Adirondacks in your video (rain, hiking, the loons, etc.). Well done. I like your canoe. I'm looking at the Adirondack Pack 13.6. Swift makes same great boats. Thanks for the video. I'm subscribing now.

Your best video yet Mark! You put a lot of effort into getting all of those extra shots that add to the miles on the legs besides all of the editing time. Congrats on the Brookie and the awesome closeness to the Loons, nothing like it in the world in my opinion! @@BackcountryPaddler it wasn’t big thankfully. I’ve since caught a big one and no need for a net. Just got a grip under the chin and lift and support body. Immediately hit subscribe! No idea why YT took me this long to show me your channel since canoeing, fishing, and Harley vids are about 90% of my time on here, but I TRULY LOVED every bit of this video. Thanks for taking us along. For years I kept emails with Stu and bought Boundary Waters Mag...it will be something I will do one day when family situation allows. For now I do day trips and sometimes a bit more. Love a solo boat and some paddling and fishing and fire time. Sometimes it's a pain but on calm days and slow paddles I will troll a streamer fly behind the canoe. The floating fly line keeps the fly up on a 8-9ft leader. The gentle motion of a paddle stroke causes the fly or lure to undulate and catches a ton of fish. From a spinning rod set up a small plastic bubble float will keep a really light maribu hair jig up off the bottom with a 5-6 ft distance from float to lure. The single hooks are about all I use anymore...too many times I hooked myself or my pack or clothes with a treble! (Not fun and easy to get fish off for me) I also took note of the loaf pan, good idea. I have used an old tin deep pie pan for years as a shallow pot, griddle, and fry pan...the loaf pan may work even better. I look forward to more of your channel.
