Yeah I paused when he said katakuri lost his will. No, he didn't lose the will to fight because who he is was revealed. He faced someone who did not care about his laid back(eh) side, luffy only saw him for the rival fight and did not see him as any weaker for it. At that point, part of katakuri's facade starts to crack. No more is he motivated to seem like an unbeatable super-human. His simple wish becomes going all out to show what he's got to luffy, and he goes as far as honorably changing the side he stands on.

There's an uncertainty involved that causes a lot of people fear, "what if I don't make it?" "what if I waste my time" "what if I can't find a job?" etc. that does make it incredibly brave to go through with it despite the real possibility of you failing, wasting your time, and falling behind in life because you were focused on something that was impossible.

Yes, but nobody uses the word like that. Nobody would say "yeah that murderer was so brave," like come on. Same thing with people with anxiety disorders, it might be "brave" of them to show up to work but nobody is going to say it's "brave" unless they find that action admirable in the given persons circumstances. Doesn't matter how scared they were.

The trick here is that courage is situational while the action it goes along is universal. Dreaming is not courageous in itself. But it can be. Pooping is not courageous in itself. But it can be. (Mad respect to my grandma) "Someone who is brave enough to dream" Is misleading because it describes the action of dreaming as inherently admirable. Luffy’s dreams and his will to pursue them is brave, admirable. But you don’t need to be brave to dream. The sentence implies that dreaming is brave on the basis that Luffy’s way of dreaming is brave. Audience get misled into thinking that dreaming is honorable, while it’s being brave that is. Pooping isn’t admirable. But being brave brave enough to poop is admirable because it implies it’s a struggle. Luffy’s dreaming is a constant effort. Making this effort is brave. Luffy is not brave enough to dream. He is dreaming so much that it's brave.

It’s so cool to me how in the first half of the new world Luffy and his crew were ridiculed for dreaming about such crazy stuff as becoming the “King of Pirates” and actually thinking they could achieve those goals. But in the New World, the truly strong are those who dared to dream. Awesome.

I would also argue that Katakuri allowed himself to lose because at this point in the fight he was more or less sure Luffy wasn't posing any threat to his siblings. Thematically I like that Luffy one. Logically we know Luffy should have lost. Luffy won due to plot armour. He took thousands of Haki-infused blows, had his torso ripped open, and kept fighting. Next arc Kaido 1-shots him. Where was his Willpower there? Funny how Luffy has as much Willpower as the plot needs him to have.

HOW ON EARTH can he bring himself to finish off luffy who is someone that he likes, respects, entrusted him with his future liberation and also smiles when he heard that straw hat escaped.... everything points towards this obvious outcome that katakuri was ALWAYS superior than luffy even after luffy reached 1YC level FUN FACT: katakuri is the only 1YC caliber combatant who proved in action that he is superior in overall power that a fellow 1YC caliber combatant... zoro scales above that obviously since he folded king in 3 hits and 15 mins while being nerfed and having to hurry

@@okashira073 Exactly, it's so bad Oda actually had to NERF Katakuri's DF so Luffy could win. Remember that a few times during the fight, Katakuri's Mochi became sticky? That's the thing. Mochi is ALWAYS sticky. Katakuri only took advantage of this a few times however, and each time Luffy got stuck to his sticky Mochi, he had no way around it. So Katakuri's Mochi is only as sticky (or not sticky) as the plot (Oda) requires it to be.

What I like about One Piece is it works on 2 levels. When I first read One Piece I loved all the hype moments and got bored in set up arcs because of lack of action and hype. I enjoyed my first read through, purely by hype and lore and action. After my retread,my mind was blown to say the least. So much clarity and foreshadowing about how characters are going to develop. Huge characters being introduced way before they become even remotely important to the story. As time goes on,I appreciate One Piece more and more and other shonen(except HxH) less and less. I am sure HxH also is of the same category where you can enjoy it on 2 levels.

haki is important because oda want power that wont disturb character interactions. nami cant hit luffy head if luffy as strong as goku. so the answer is haki, power system that can be toggled on and off😂

Willpower matters too much in shounen but specially in OP. It's frustrating seeing Luffy (and the rest of the good guys) get horribly beaten 10 times in a single fight and get back up; but the antagonist only has to be beaten once and it's over. Makes any injury feel hollow.

Willpower matters when they have the strength to back it up. Luffy could not do anything against Aokiji, even though he had the will to. He had the will to save ace but he could not do it. Injuries don’t feel hollow because they have to recover from their injuries. They get beaten once because their will power was not there, or they were overpowered

But the antagonists don't fall in one beat down? Only the fodder villains do. The stronger ones take a hell of a beating to put down, fucking ULTI survived a Big Mom combo attack and kept going because she was malding over Page One. Doffy's organs were rearranged and Gear 4th was pummeling him brutally for a while. Katakuri was fighting for HOURS and was taking damage the whole time too. None of the relevant villain characters go down easily. Luffy can take MORE punishment than them usually, but they don't go down easily by any means.

i Agree matters too much always seems like only the Strawshats are progressing throughout the story instead of everyone. think his DNA/Gene have more to do with his overall power instead of training. MC's and strawhats are almost immortal aswell. ussop should have be dying along time ago. I stop taking one piece serious after pell survive a point blank nuke.

he lost focus from author which lead to a negative point of view by the audience who cant read anyway and their hatred against kidd was already pre determined... they ll say "OHH look at luffy he has so much plot armor" yet they will also say "ohh luffy now is a top tier" even though presiously they implied it didnt make sense and now they expect someone who was around luffy's level before the coc infusion to get buffed up... they obviously forgot that not everyone is allowed to wear plot armor... luffy is the MC and has 1 crew so they ll be as priviledged as they want meanwhile eustass received what luffy would have received if he didnt had this special treatment but i highly believe he will reclaim this anticipated position... it will be EXTREMELY bad for the story if luffy doesnt have a rival from his era that shares a similar goal or a close to his level combatant... golden era: shiki, roger, big mom, xebec, whitebeard (refering to pirates only) great pirate era: kaido, shanks, mihawk, blackbeard (he became a yonko during the great pirate era and remained a yonko during the yonko saga) current era: luffy........................................... please dont mention buggy FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!

He had no one to turn to after the 2nd shanks incident and Kid did escape big mom like Luffy did and took down 4th division commander of a Yonko crew which would equate to someone life Doffy in terms of Physical strength

Will Power matter because whenever my champion get debuff they started healing, it helps with reducing damage from sucide mastery, NOTE don't High hp awakened Warlock while having Will Power active, because Warlock will melt you down Like my comment if understood what am referring to
