Why WipeOut is a CLASSIC?

I can see your point with the wall collision thing, but honestly, it's better that way. At least in this game. You showed perfectly why in the video, it becomes far too easy without it. The game was designed that way intentionally. Like all good racing games, you're meant to learn the tracks, becoming better at them over time, leaning when to slow down for corners and use the air breaks is key in all the Wipeout games, this one included. Removing the drastic slow down you get for crashing is essentially playing a different game but with the same tracks. The fact you couldn't pass Silverstream (not knocking you on that) on Venom before but can now beat the game entirely, including on Rapier shows how trivial removing the punishment for crashing makes the game. That said, I got to admit, the constant saying collision detection is the issue was rather annoying. The game's collision detection was fine, it detected when you hit a wall and slowed you down for doing so. Saying the detection was the problem sounds like you're blaming the game for detecting you are hitting walls when you aren't, essentially blaming the game for your own errors. Although this is likely just in error in phrasing, that's how it comes across in the review.

It's so amazing that this has recently got an Amiga port! Thanks for reminding me about controlling the nose being required during the jumps. I have been getting into a bounce feedback loop when hitting the ground and that is probably why due to hitting the ground nose down!

Start trying again in 2024 and still love it. It‘s so satisfying if you finally master the tracks and thats because of its unforgiving gameplay.

My first introduction to Wipeout was 2048 on the Vita and HD/Fury on the PS3. Now I'm slowly working my way through ALL the games. Including the Omega Collection.

The wall collision slow down is there to punish you for crappy driving, it forces you to learn the track and improve, whats the point of playing if you smash into the wall every turn with no consequences

I can't say I quite agree with the characterization of Wipeout being F-Zero with weapons. F-Zero's ships are extremely responsive and turn more or less exactly where you point them. Wipeout's ships are heavy and drifty, and need air brakes to help them pull tight turns. The feel is extremely different. Wipeout, 2097, Wip3out, and especially Pure all have something special that I never really felt in any other game, even newer Wipeout titles. Redout failed. Pacer failed. BallisticNG comes very close.

yes f-zero is fantasy nascar/derby while wipeout is sci-fi f1 and physics of pulse and 2048 are just not here the ps1 games feels very light and bouncy, fusion feels like bobsleighing, pure have weight to their ships pulse is too "slick" if that make sense, it doesn't induce vertige to the player and is not exciting

it's sci-fi formula 1, of course it's awesome! yea sci-fi since each elements have detailed information about 'em, it's pretty realistic doesn't means it ain't beautiful. I personally can't wait for ag racing in real life! about the wall collision I think you don't understand. it's not janky it just feels clunky because you ain,t driving accurately and want to go fast but it's not a flaw, the game was intentionnaly made this way and it works. you gotta slow down! you ain't driving a train this is formula you're on a racing tracks with technical turns and if you drive without thinking you're gonna eat walls lol and there's also opponents, opponents that can slow yo ass down with weaponry. if the game was all about speed it would be dumb and unfun (never ride a train ? it goes fast but the speed never vary) sorry bro i'm a tad passionate about this ip and that just felt like slandering from lack of skill and no I prefer how it's done in the following game, its quit satisfying and also necessary since how fast the game can get but the first game is perfect the way it is, it doesn't need to be more forgiving
