I am a OBH client for 6 months now 😂and always felt over stuffed and not at all hungry to eat 3 protein forward meals. Now I do eat protein first and then finished with veggies, fruit or starchy food. Now I am hungry for all my meals. I am meeting my protein goals and usually going over my protein goal. My food cravings are gone especially my midafternoon sweet treat urge. Eat your protein first. It really helps. 😊

First off, thank you so much for being a part of the OBH community for the past 6 months! 😊 It’s amazing to hear how focusing on protein has transformed your meals and helped curb cravings. You're doing an incredible job meeting (and exceeding) your goals-your commitment is inspiring! Keep up the great work, and we’re always here to support you on your journey. 💪💛

I don't like eating meat I almost feel like I'm being ashamed for not liking red meat especially but my diet is most likely going more plant-based because plant-based is more affordable I can buy a big bag of dried beans for less than $5 and it'll last me a month that same five dollars won't even buy me today's worth of meat , these days a container of yogurt or cottage cheese is now around $4 to $6 , yogurt and cottage cheese used to be $2 to $3 I love goat cheese but I'm not paying $8 for a small piece of goat cheese because I have to invest money on foods that will last longer, if it's true that grocery prices are going to get worse next yesr , then building bones on a budget is going to get more tighter 😕 , I used to say I wish I could eat fish everyday because it's cheaper than beef and fish is not as disgusting as beef but then there's a mercury and the heavy metal so you can't eat it everyday put fish has gone up in price too, it's hard osteoporosis on low-income I know I'm not the only one And I still Need to have enough money left over for my bone supplements

It’s not about shaming, they are just trying to make an unequivocal point about protein needs for healthy aging. I’m a retired dietitian, age 65, and was never a big meat eater. Looking at the most up to date research though there are two key points. One is that after age forty it takes a bigger protein load (per meal) to stimulate muscle protein synthesis, and two is that the protein RDA was set based on healthy young males eating high quality protein and would require 25 to 35% more plant-based protein to provide the same levels of essential amino acids. "High quality protein" means it matches human essential amino acid needs. Bottom line, taking all that into account, a 40+ year old the meat eater needs 30 grams a protein per meal, whereas a 40+ year old vegetarian/vegan will need at least 40 grams plant protein. Try out tracking your essential amino acid intake on Cronometer which is great tool to learn where you’re at (Including micronutrients) and then use it to tweak your diet to reach your targets.

@beyondfitrd physically I feel much better eating less meat, if I do eat meat it's once in a long while But I feel better without it and my liver enzymes have finally gone down after years of trying to lower them, too much animal fat especially from meat it's not good for my body specifically , also what are the mental effects of eating a food you absolutely hate? If it's true that you should enjoy your diet if you're eating something you really hate and it puts you in a crappy mood how will that affect you physically? If I eat too much animal fat I feel sluggish but plant fats don't do that to me, physically I feel better with plant proteins than animal proteins And like I mentioned it's also a budget thing, let's say even if I wanted to eat meat every day it is financially impossible People need to understand not everyone is wealthy and can afford to eat meat every day So you have to do the best that you can you can keep pushing meat all day long but ultimately it's not about whether you say it's healthy or not

@@Dr_DougLucas I'm really hoping that my small steps will help because it really is getting financially tough out there and who knows what's going to happen next year with the new president-elect I've been hearing everyone say that grocery prices are not going to come down anytime soon so we have to do our best when it comes to the diet part of healing osteoporosis

@beyondfitrd Just wanted to say that.. Actually she was very specific when stating that she was 'protein shaming' the woman who ate the eggplant for dinner. Perhaps she couldn't afford the steak that the guest speaker was eating, I don't know, but don't think it's encouraging to 'shame' anyone. Maybe meet the person where she's at, and work from there.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. The intention was never to generalize, but rather to highlight common challenges that some people face. It's great to hear that you or those around you have a different experience, and I truly respect that!
