I cared for my pool for many years. I stopped using strips. I had a chlorinator, used algaecide occasionally m,shock if it got greenish and ph plus. Only problem I had was when my x husband used creek water to top the Pool during a drought and introduced metals to the water.

No way am I ever going to be in a position to own a pool, well maybe if I win the National Lottery, but I find these sorts of videos strangely soothing. Also after that lottery win, I'm pretty confident I could look after my pool.

Hi Steve, thank you so much for your informative videos, have a question if able to answer..a friend has a pond & uses Copper (Cupric) Sulfate fine crystals in his ponds to kill & stop algae growth, he also uses it in his pool, one tablespoon/10,000 gallons of water..diluted in a gallon water jug. He never has alga even out here in CA with the heat. Been reading up on it, & seems quite a few people use it, as well. I know Pool RX has copper along with other minerals, but those are also triple the price if not more. What do you think of copper sulfate powder/crystals? Thank you again for sharing your knowledge with all of us.

The amount of acceptable copper in a pool is zero. So adding it purposefully is a fundamentally flawed approach to pool care. Chlorine is an algicide, among other things, and so with a well balanced pool there is no algae. So why add copper? People who do not maintain their water well end up with green water. The only problem is they are not following the accepted standards for how you care for a pool. When you do, you don't need copper, silver ions, magic beans, pool magnets or unicorn tears. Just chlorine and the understanding of how to use it. Copper caused staining. You absorb metals through your skin. People with light or chemically treated hair can end up with green tinted hair. Ypu can plate copper onto surfaces in your pool, and you can also oxidize it in the water and turn the pool emerald green like what happened at the Rio Olympics. Hi steve, I have 27 round above ground pool. For the past few days it’s been dark brown, I blasted it with liquid chlorine now it’s clear but the BR is 6.5, CL is 3.0 and the PH is 8.2 what do I do to balance it up? Cartridge gets changed as needed as well with 3 tablets in the skimmer.

I balanced to water chemicals and shocked the pool then put clarifier in and it is still really cloudy. I think it might need to be acid washed

A lot of rain has my chemicals all messed up. Either not enough chlorine or pool goes into chlorine lock. What to do.

I found when first opening a pool to make sure, once I know the filter sys. Is in working order I check alkalinity 1st, before anything, and adjust by circulating chemicals for a couple of days before filtering.

Man, I didn't think copper, but there's a good chance I have a lot of copper in my water. Our cities water sucks.
