In legends it was because wookiees and trandoshans have super bad blood, having fought wars between eachother, and being in the same system as eachother both fought for domination of the system. And then when the Empire took over, the Trandoshans actually helped to initiate the Empire with the Wookiee slaving process (spelling fix)

I heard the tension between Wookies and trandoshans started because even though trandasha was in the same system as kysheek the wookies took credit in the republic for being the heads of the entire system.The trandoshians were offended by this and retaliated and that’s when their life long rivalry started.

One thing to note: I always believed it was canon that Han Solo first met Chewbacca while he was still a Lieutenant in the Imperial Navy. I remember reading a Star Wars graphic-novel on how Lt. Han Solo went aboard Chewbacca's smuggling ship after intercepting it, and an Imperial officer commanded him to kill Chewbacca and return with his hide. Han Solo said 'NO." And that was the beginning of their beautiful friendship.
