Wah, so true about food! Foreigners and tourists seem to think because Singapore is very expensive, no choice except spend a lot to eat here. No lah. Recently, we are doing some shopping in Jurong and go into a shopping centre because, well, it's a shopping centre lor. We have a quick lunch there and total one pax S$5.20! This is about US$3.90. Cheap ah! Quite nice also. Noodles are Q and tasty pork. Happy Kiam Siap Queen! But girl with me buys from different stall and spends almost S$10! Crazy rich Asian! 😄

Not correct. Seeing a doctor at the HDB estate will cost you between $60~$80 (Sing dollars) for a common sickness. A private one will cost you more. Medical is not cheap for Singaporean & even more expensive for foreigners. A visit to the doctor at the polyclinic (government subsidise) might cost you $20 and that’s for the elderly. I am 70+. If ever an ambulance will to take me to a private hospital in an emergency, I will stop the ambulance and walk out. Medical fees in a private hospital will cost you a ‘bomb’ I will die from heart attack instead of the sickness if I see would to see the medical bill.

The only problem is housing. 2k usd for a single room is crazy high especially if you consider there are many landlords discriminate against renters based on gender,race and nationality. In the other countries you compared to singapore. 2k usd for a single room isnt the only option for a decent place. If you don't live in New York or San Francisco you can get a much more reasonable price for rent. Obviously those other places have their own issues as well, but just saying.

1.5k, condo, Potong pasir. Really? Do you rent the storeroom or the common room in a shared rental unit? No doubt when comparing singapore to other developed cities around the world, costs for food and public transport in sg isn’t as costly. But I do believe you’re under representing the cost of those items. A meal in the hawker centre in a newer town would cost around 4-5 bucks excluding drinks. And restaurants are averaging 20bucks for a complete meal with drinks rather than the claimed 12-13. The cost to put a roof over your head if you choose to not live under your parent’s is a significant chunk of an average Singaporean’s salary. And if you’re drawing local salary instead of an expat’s, boy, you’d wonder if you’d have enough to save for rainy days after deducting living expenses.

@ Haoziran it really depends on how you define "Cheap". If you make local currency and eat local (i.e. eating at food centres in suburbs) it will be affordable. as versus to the fancy food joints in towns will naturally be higher. Unfortunately, for housing and car is on the higher side; this is largely due to the land scarce and cars have to be limited due. That said, estimate 80% of Singaporean own their own apartment.

This video was in two years ago fast forward to 2022 After the pandemic and with the Russian War and Fed interest rising. Singapore’s key core inflation measure climbed to the highest level in almost 14 years last month. Public housing for 3-5 rooms for BTO flat does not go have much more than 0.5 million but the BTO price has grown more than 60% since 2010. Regarding food, prices increase at hawker centre from Jan 2022 gone up more than 25% due to fresh food and rental increase with more of our favourite stalls closing. Something $3.50 is now $4.50 / $4.50 is now $6.00. Public transport we have one of the best in the world. DPM Lawrence Wong just announce the Forward Singapore initiative. Same here for Fitness - run, cycling and tennis. Love tennis. Love the park connectors, the park upgrades, and the island wide routes. Ever thankful for CPF, low interest rates, low loan borrowing rates, medisave for health insurance and a fair and balance income tax system. First S$20,000 0% Next S$10,000 (up to S$30,000) 2% Next $S10,000 (up to S$40,000) 3.5% Next S$40,000 (up to S$80,000) 7% Next $S40,000 (up to S$120,000) 11.5% Any annual income below 120K does not get a hefty 15-22% tax. Public transportation and tax in Singapore is awesome, I believe both are number one in the world. But from my experience both SG and USA, I disagree on food and fitness. Hawker center food is great, I love enjoying food in Hawker center, especially, milk tea, but in Singapore, I pay $10, $100, $300 for good restaurants but didn't worth it compared to USA. Almost every food I had in LA and SF was really great regardless of price. USA is like the heaven where all of the best food in the world gather in the same place. Meat and vegetable was so fresh and even Korean BBQ was better taste than BBQ in Korea!!! Because Singapore is small country, can't afford to have farm and ranch, all food is not fresh as I am paying for. Secondly, Fitness, I like workout in the gym. USA is a such a huge country and have a lot of gym options in very reasonable price. Two-story building was only for one gym that include swimming pool and basketball court, and I only paid $55 a month. But here in Singapore, such a bad and rusty gym cost $S100 and more, and even 10 times smaller than the gym in USA. But overall, I liked to watch your videos! very informative and good point of view. Hope to see another good videos soon!

While I agree food is much cheaper than US I’m talking about hawker food only. But housing is expensive even HDB flats. Prices depend on location. If you have watched the HDB flats the most expensive were over one million dollars per unit. Do you have have such monster prices of a just simple flat? BTW, if you stay in condominium in Singapore they provide free gyms too. Do you know why Singapore so expensive in housing because Singapore land is limited and the costs of land is almost as expensive as construction prices. Have a nice day. Bye bye.

Koala Bear, what u said is also correct lah! If u don’t pursue branded clothes, branded housing, branded food, branded wearables, cars etc. Simply accept the needs rather than wants, is true that Spore is affordable. Nowadays, I seldom patronised hawker Center or kopi Tiam, I do my hearty meal by cooking claypot rice, prawn noodle, spaghetti, nasi lemak, nasi briyani, curry beef or chicken, fish ball noodle, laksa, mee siam, Chee Cheong fun, KL Tai Lok Mein, Hokkien prawn noodle, Canton hor fun & fried rice, Canton soup, Teochew porridge etc esp lost ancient Cantonese cuisine in olden days of Singapore & French cuisine at home. U can eat a few day by cooking extra storing in a fridge. As for travel, due to Singapore is at the tip of the south & attached to the mainland, u can have holiday to the southeast nearby countries for different cultural experience. For the past 25 yrs + , I use to ride my big motor bike or drive my Toyota Harrier to Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Burma, Vietnam for cross countries holidays. Is fun & is eye opener to travel to kampong/ rural areas taste the life of the locals, cultural differences compare to an agency package travel. Just solely one country of Thailand, is too big, too much for u to explore. Next trip, I will plan to do it on a 2 wheel bicycle. Once a foreigner knows the ways of the locals, then you will know that singapore is a liveable country for reasonable cost. Personally, I believe that he didn't know how to spend within his means.

Agreed. The ranking of world most expensive cities are inaccurate as the basket includes a lot of 'good to haves'. But we just need the 'must have' and it's true that one can access to cheap and achieve a good quality lifestyle. Except for those whom fight for total human rights, free speech, adult entertainment, u can't get it here. But one whom look for safety, greenery, good air, multicultural, quality (public) housing, good education system, as priority, it's definitely a place to live.

Hi! I love it that someone finally made a video putting into perspective that it's not really that expensive to live in Singapore! 👍🏼😍 I guess what made it really expensive on those surveys was including owning a car which obviously NOT a necessity because first it's a tiny country and it has a very reliable, convenient & affordable public transportation. Here in Canada, sure, you can own a used car at even $1000 dirt cheap, but it is a NEED because of the vast landscape of the country and the unforgiving weather. ❄️ If I may add to your list, I'd say hiring help for families working full time with young children is very affordable. In Canada, caregivers are paid up to $20/hour so if you're a working mom it's like working to hire one, so some mothers just give up working and stay home for the kids instead. I lived in Sg for 3 years until Y2012, and I was spending only $600 monthly for house help expenses back then. And having an extra hand to help, really gave me the life balance to juggle career, home needs and personal time. New subscriber here, looking forwards to your next videos!

Oh Hi! Spoon & Fork! Wow I love your comments! That's so much detailed and resonate with my experiences in SG!! I think only we feel the same (coming from North America) haha.... Yes, I am also so grateful for the helper. i started in SG by cleaning by myself, to later I just hired helper and paid the $20. She cleaned so much better than myself hahah..... Monaco is the most expensive city/country in the world, with property priced at $60k usd per square metre. The cost of living in Singapore is high, because of the economic comparison to the average wage, which is quite low. Good basic info for tourists..only hor !... Grass is always greener on the other side. FACTS: Singapore is for the rich only. Only place on earth where ALL ministers are Millionaires. Food/public transport is reasonable, yes, but if you get sick, real sick, will be very every expensive, CPF will not cover you. You will rather go peacefully. Rich/poor gap growing ever bigger. Not many can afford a basic car or property as land is limited. But most will still try to own one to show off....a cultural thing...call the 4 Cs....Not a place for young family or long term or retirement. Good place for making money temporary and yes, a tax heaven for corporations.....Lah !

Rich and poor gap has always been around. By the way,yes our medical is slightly on the high side. But i doubt you ever hear anyone who was bankrupt or refuse by goverment hospital for treatment because they cannot afford. My uncle got his cpf,200k at the age of 55. Left the family and spent within 5 years. Broke and went back to look for my auntie and cousins, they refuse to let him back. Now working as a cleaner,and living in a rental flat. He has many illness,hospitalise for major and minor operations, his medisave has already wiped out,but his medications and weekly visits to the doctors are all covered by government and some charities. So not true that poor has to die and fend for themselves. Many hearsay,in Singapore, we have many agency and respective organisation that can help. Some individual choose not to and some didn't know. Most have egos to seek help,sad to say.
@Jack-hy2ki3 жыл бұрын

You are comparing local Sing dishes cost with US. Ofcourse they will cost more as it's not a staple in US. Compare these with a Burger or Hot Dog which is local to US . That would be a fair comparison. But still there are variety of food you can get in Singapore in all ranges if you are not too fussy about the place. I love the place because of the way it works. You get what you expect. Yes, tax benefits for expats are an add on. It's the best lah!
