I just don't understand why the fact that we're flawed and sometimes do bad things, means that we deserve to suffer in eternal torment. I understand really bad people like murderers, rapists, child abusers, but why me? A generally decent person who tries to do good, even if sometimes I fall short? Why do I deserve the same fate as the murderer? Either A) I don't actually deserve such a terrible fate, and therefore there's a sense of injustice in god's judgment. Or B) I do deserve it, and if that's the case, then shouldn't I accept the punishment and serve my sentence with dignity, instead of scurrying to safety under Jesus' wing? If someone can explain to me where I'm wrong and what I'm missing, I'd really really appreciate it. This is the one logical problem that I can't seem to wrap my head around, and the major reason why I'm not yet a Christian. If someone can help me understand this, I'd convert.

In Islam, god states that: إِن تَجْتَنِبُوا۟ كَبَآئِرَ مَا تُنْهَوْنَ عَنْهُ نُكَفِّرْ عَنكُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمْ وَنُدْخِلْكُم مُّدْخَلًا كَرِيمًا If you avoid the major sins that you are forbidden, We will absolve you of your misdeeds and admit you to a noble abode. 4:31 Therefore, if you don’t commit the big sins and live a righteous life, god will blot out you’re evil deeds. Even in the bible this is confirmed Romans 4: 6 David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the one to whom God credits righteousness apart from works: 7 “Blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. 8 Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord will never count against them.”[b](G) Your sins are covered not paid. @@scillyautomatic Ok I might be mistaken. My appologies. I will post my comment again (well i might add a few bonuses). Here it starts: 1-"It is JUST because someone is paying the penalty for the crime." If you really think on principle that this is just, I tell you what: I go steal and you go do jail for me. After all this is also just as long as someone (that someone being you) pays the penalty for my crime. 2-"live with God in heaven" The first line of the Bible states that heaven is created along with the creation of the earth (Genesis 1). Where did God live before heaven was created ? Furthermore, what do you make of : Psalm 57:5 "Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens! May your glory shine over all the earth." The Throne of God is the reigning centre of God in the Abrahamic religions: primarily Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The throne is said by various holy books to reside beyond the Seventh Heaven and is called Araboth (Hebrew: עֲרָבוֹת 'ărāḇōṯ) in Judaism, and al-'Arsh in Islam. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Throne_of_God) In my opinion, at best you are gonna live UNDER God. 3-"we are ALL stained with sin." I understand this comes from John 3:3 "no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again" and Romans 5:12 "Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and death spread to all men because all sinned..." and Proverbs 22:15 "David says, “Surely I was sinful at birth, / sinful from the time my mother conceived me” ... How do you reconcile that with : Ezekiel 18:20 KJV, “The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father; neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.” and what do you make of : Deuteronomy 24:16, "The fathers shall not be put to death for the sons, neither shall the sons be put to death for the fathers. Every man shall be put to death for his own sin." According to the old testament, I'm not responsible for the sins of Adam, am I ? and after all, Jesus is the God of the old testament isn't he ? 4-"God can not accept anyone with sin". "Be we can not clean away our own sin". "So, our sin is punished and we are acceptable to God." If the sin is punished, then God did not forgive it. As long as it was punished (or payed for), then it is not forgiveness is it ? But God is omnipotent, can he not just forgive Adam's sin ? Instead he goes throught all the trouble of sending his son (or himself in the form of the son -depending on the christian view-) to be crucified by his creation and for his creation's sin ? That's it in a very few words.

If Jesus was really just God, then the story makes even less sense. So God looked at the state of the world, understood it was full of much sin and thus he had to punish the world for it, but at the same time he wanted to do anything and everything he could so that he could forgive everybody. Thus, his plan was to manifest himself in another form on his own planet, then go and get himself killed so he could sacrifice himself to himself to save humanity from the punishment he was going to dish out? Why is it this so complicated, and what about this is really a moral sacrifice? If he wanted to forgive humanity for all the bad shit they did, and if he does really have all the power of the universe and do what he wants, why couldn't he have just decided and tell everybody he's going to wipe their records clean and introduce a new rule where people have to ask him for forgiveness? Why was the part where he jumped into a underaged low-class girl's stomach, only to be born then go on a suicide mission necessary, and why did he need a blood sacrifice? He doesn't need to do anything, keep in mind, he's God. He's all-knowing and all powerful and can do anything he wants. I think this is the problem with apologetics in general. They need to frame God as both an all-powerful being who can do anything he wants, whenever he wants, and is not bound by any limitations of power in any field. Yet at the same time he unfortunately has to make some tough calls and do some rough things because that's just what he has to do given his circumstances. Despite the fact the previous narrative was the fact he is able to do anything no matter what. Doesn't make sense as a genuine moral way of life, BUT does make sense if you know all these stories were written by so many people, translated multiple times over, and smushed together into one big collection which changed over time as governments and societies evolved over millennia.

We need to get over this so-called unGodly gift of God. The God I have come to know this past decade would NEVER do something so animalistic. Man killed Jesus, not God and that’s even obvious in the Bible. God simply wanted Jesus to finish out His life in the natural course that all mortals must go through. Jesus is now sovereign of our universe bc of His bestowal life down here. There’s more to the story than our small human perspectives. Man wrote that to make Christianity more enticing. As the sacrifice was already a part of primitive religions and they just made Jesus into this same part that’s also in Mitraism which was popular during the time of Jesus. It time to evolve past these primitive beliefs. Gods too good for human sacrifice and to say it’s an act of love is abusive in itself. It’s denying common sense and turning many millions away from God altogether bc they can’t accept this cosmic child abuse that Christians call love.

The purpose for Jesus coming to earth was to be sacrificed. That was God's intent. That was "The Plan." That was the purpose for the Virgin Birth. God didn't have to do that. No one required that. There is no authority over God that can force him do anything, but because we offended God with our sins, God required a reparation be paid in agony. Paid to who? To God, of course. God demanded this debt be paid to Himself, but He wanted to spare humans the agony required to make the payment, so God decided to pay the debt for us. Well, wasn't that nice? But how crazy is that? What is the rational behind all this? In Biblical days, the Philistines, the Canaanites, and yes even the Jews made human sacrifices to an angry God to win his forgiveness. Remember Abraham and Isaac? When God demanded Abraham sacrifice his son, Abraham didn't hesitate to do that. It was the way things were done. And what was the sacrifice the gods required? A son! (A daughter would have been an insult). So God was angry and he demanded vengeance in payment for our offenses against him. The appropriate payment was the sacrifice of a son, so as an act of mercy to humans, God sacrificed his son to himself. The insanity of this is impossible to measure. The saving grace is: it's a fairy tale.

So instead of child abuse we have God committing suicide. As far as Jesus being all God and all human how does this work? The all God part of Jesus must have seen every step in this whole thing coming in fact it was his plan. Jesus knew what the Romans were going to do, knew what the Jews that were against him were going to do. Jesus/God felt every lash, every nail before it happened. The entire passion play was just for our benefit. Many early Christians concluded that God simply put on the appearance of a man, that pretended to be human, to feel the sting of the lash. How could God, they figured, be hurt by a mortal. Other Christians resolved the man/ God dualism by making a Jesus all mortal from birth then given powers through God at his baptism and all the suffering was that of a man that gave everything demanded, even his life as God wanted. Only upon his death did Jesus become one with God. There were other mixtures in the way Christians viewed this man/God problem. Having the death and resurrection be an atonement for our sins was primarily a Pauline doctrine and not that of the Jerusalem Christians. Paul famously said that if he had to choose between the disciples and his version of things he would choose his own. As it turns out Paul won.

I have questions. So if GOD says I deserve hell, in fact, born deserving hell, due to Adam's original sin, and the only way to salvation is through the cleansing blood of his son Jesus. Does that mean GOD is offering me an 'out' when HE states HE can cleanse my sins away with the blood of HIS son, Jesus, and then, I may be able to enter Heaven? Seems that way to me. But then, I realize that Jesus will have to be tortured and murdered before HE can use the blood. And I say, WHOA! Hold on now. Let's just wait a sec. Isn't Jesus innocent? I don't want him to suffer because of MY SINS. I don't hate him, and I sure don't want him to be killed horribly. I ask GOD, isn't there another way YOU can forgive my sins? What's wrong with a lifetime of good works, caring for others. And it seems HE replies No, that only with Jesus's blood can I be forgiven. That seems horrible to me. How's Jesus feel about this? This youtube implies he volunteered. But didn't Jesus ask that this cup be taken from him, before he submitted to GODS WILL? Now my question is; how could I be ok with JESUS, a totally innocent man, with no sin of his own, being horribly murdered so I don't have to pay the penalty GOD says I deserve? What kind of horrible person would I be then? I know I'm just a man, a creation of the Almighty, who had no right to question GOD. But GOD made me with a heart that loves others, and would never ask for, or wish, suffering upon others. Even Jesus. But besides all that, wouldn't the right thing be that if GOD says I deserve hell, I should just accept HIS JUDGEMENT? I think so. If Almighty GOD wants to torture and murder his own begotten son, that's his business. No one can ever say I accepted that an innocent man be killed for me, so I can enjoy eternal life. Heck, I'd feel so guilty I couldn't enjoy it.

I mean, I get that God (the Judge) said, hey, I'll take the punishment for you...and did this through Jesus...but he didn't have to, he could have just said, hey, confess and all will be forgiven...as we do now. No, the real reason Jesus died on the cross was because he had a movement and by dying on the cross, he'd be a martyr and that would strengthen the movement. Well, it worked...but it wasn't about him forgiving our sins.
@FHBStudio3 жыл бұрын
I'm not making an argument, I'm mostly just posing additional questions I have. None of this makes sense to me. Number 1: Jesus was not a mere human. If jesus was not a mere human, is it then not merely the nullification of the punishment altogether? Is it not akin to a parent taking the punishment of a child in their stead? Is it a sacrifice at all if he's not a mere human? What has the transgressor learned if anything at all? When viewed from a complete evildoer, the only thing that happens for them is that they're not punished for their crimes and that they can just continue to be evil without consequence. Now you'll say that there's hell and eternal punishment and all that, but that's not a point brought up in the video. Anyone wanting to sin all their life could simply bet on a death bed confession. Number 2: Jesus went to the cross voluntarily. But not unconditionally. Your forgiveness is dependent upon the acceptance of his sacrifice, which has already been committed without your awareness, let alone your consent, approval and acceptance. What if someone _still_ thinks this is unfair but more importantly, wants to be held accountable for their own sins? Number 3: The sacrifice of Jesus is not an act of abuse, but a gift of God. As far as I'm concerned, the point in the video is incomplete: forgiveness through jesus' sacrifice is not unconditional. It is under the condition that the person accepts that sacrifice and changes their ways entirely. I had some other points but got distracted ;-;

Rob Jackson, the Old Testament does point to Jesus is many, many ways, even though it was completed hundreds of years before Jesus' birth. Throughout the OT, God wanted people to repent from sinning. Jesus' suffering was not an end in itself. Jesus himself had joy during his suffering, because he knew he was giving life to his people (Hebrews 12:2). You would not know an "honest answer" until you repent of the pride that's blinding you, and the sadism that drives you to troll Christian YT channels.

He opened heaven’s gates for the just who had gone before him,” says the Catechism of the Catholic Church in No. 637. (Says google)

Jesus didn’t take our “punishment”, He offered himself as a sacrifice for our sins - just like people used to offer lambs for their sins, except Jesus is the eternal and acceptable sacrifice. Let’s stop this weird “Jesus took my place” nonsense and look to the real meaning: sacrifice to pardon our sin, in fact, to wash us clean of sin.

Because brother, please read this carefully, God is many things. He is Loving, Merciful, but not forgetting, He is JUST. So since crimes (our sin) was, is and will be committed; there has to be CONSEQUENCES for those sins. And since God is also HOLY, his standards are extremely high. It is written "the wages of sin is DEATH." So he took it upon Himself to pay the penalty for the countless number of sins committed and will be committed. I hope this made sense my guy.

It's all utter nonsense, because the Bible is a man written book, that's been rewritten many times, hence I ask God to guide me towards love, and Divine Love also includes peace of mind, so that's all I need in life, because, if I can feel that, I can also help others feel it, and that's the most important step towards world peace: finding peace in my own heart. That can inspire others to discover the peace and love of God, that's all already there. We only have to open up and our hearts will be filled
@edgarmorales44762 жыл бұрын
I formally and fully reject the belief that Jesus allowed himself to be crucified to "pay for the sins of the world"; this belief is pure nonsense. The truth is: Jesus had knowingly broken the laws of Judaism, Jesus had set his face against the Jewish Religious Hierarchy, Jesus had unwittingly initiated public disturbances and invoked the displeasure of the Roman Governor, therefore it was time for Jesus to exit the world - and Jesus was glad to go. It is perfectly true that down the ages people have come to Jesus in all sincerity begging for forgiveness and strength to deal with their daily lives, I tell you the truth: Jesus did respond and did enable them to see their "wrong-doing" and obtain the strength to put it to one side in order to live in a more understandable way. But I tell you truly: Jesus did not, in any shape or form, paid for our sins; this is a myth and a fallacy. We are responsible for ourselves! Jesus only offered us a way to make true spiritual progress.

No punishment, there are hidden reasons for that. Who is Jesus? Who is God? God is made by the Son - who is not omnipotent - and by the Father. But the Father - the almighty God - is just a SPIRIT here ("God is a spirit"), aka the "Holy Spirit". This means He is ABSENT because He only dwells in the past, before the start of the universe ("the world has not known you"). But from that distant time God (there is not a spirit) is ABLE TO OBSERVE US and to take actions here. Before getting rid of his power, the Son was that omnipotent God ("He who has seen me has seen the Father"). The Son is now the ONLY ONE really existing non-omnipotent God, the Owner of heaven ("Then the King shall say...). The Holy Spirit inside Jesus is the "Father-Spirit", no one else exists inside Him: "I am not ALONE because the Father is with me". The Son sits next to the POWER of God (a thing) because He hasn't got his own. For example that power has been used for Mary's pregnancy: "the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee".

@@redgrange3485 One of the many things Anselm is known for is the satisfaction theory of atonement. The idea is that sins committed against a God of infinite majesty and holiness require the atoning sacrifice to be of infinite value. Therefore, only Christ, being fully divine and fully human, could be a proper substitute for mankind and restore God's honor and dignity. The idea of penal substitution and satisfying the demands of God's justice was later added to this formulation.
