So the betrayal of Judas was a good thing? The agony of torture was fine? If it were happening today would you save Jesus? So god sacrificed god to save gods creation from god? Twisted logic! bible says the father shall not bear the sin of the son,. You killed god???? Blaspheme, that’s Christianity. If Jesus were killed on electric chair, would you have electric chair as symbol?

Hi Kevin, I was raised Catholic but left when I was born again in the Spirit. We are not born again at our infant baptism, we are when we are horrified at how sinful we are, because even if we aren't, God is, which is why we need Jesus.

Joan C Hi Joan. Its sad to hear you left the One True Church, but there is always time to consider :) Most Christians today BELIEVE a big lie, which is "To be born again is to leave the Catholic Church and join a less than 500 year denomination". Now one might ask, isnt all Christian denominations alike? Not really. Most denominations deny the Sacraments and thats exactly what the enemy wants. Check out Steve ray on youtube, he has got a clip about this born again stuff, and he was once a so called born again , so one cannot learn better than a person like himself.

Joan C hey ! I just wanna clarify the fact that we are born again in the spirit through infant baptism is true . But , if you believe that you’re baptised in the Catholic Church and you’re doomed , that’s not true . There are 7 sacraments . Baptism , Reconciliation , Eucharist , confirmation , matrimony/Holy order/lay life and Anointing of the sick . Well , the choice of baptism was made by your parents to cleanse your from the stain of original sin but when YOU choose to be confirmed , that’s when you (as a mature person) will say ‘yes’ to Jesus ! NO ONE has the rights to force you to enter . Being born in the spirit and is great ! I agree with you when you say that we are born again from our sins through the sacrament of reconciliation James 5:16 (Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective) . Dear friend , we do need a church . Jesus Himself said in Matthew 5:17 (Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them) He didn’t want to abolish the laws in the Old Testament(Jewish tradition) and the Catholic Church follows some of it . You can’t call it paganism because GOD HIMSELF INSTITUTED THESE LAWS as you read in the Old Testament . God bless you and will be praying for ya 😁

Thanks Melvina. We do need fellowship with other believers. Jesus said where two or three are gathered together in my Name, there I am in their midst. We don't need seven sacraments to be saved, and I don't need Mary to pray for me at the hour of my death because Jesus saved me completely and forever. God bless you too.

Thank you, Bishop Barron ! I love your clips. What's so amazing to me about the story of Jesus is that his message shows that what we consider to be "little" sins, like jeolousy, gossip (e.g. Judas), vengence (e.g., the crowd that called for his execution) being un-neighborly etc. make a huge devastating impact on the world. I know that I overlooked this message and I've been a Catholic since I was born (I'm not saying how old I'm, but I have enough decades under my belt). After all these years, I think I'm finally getting it thanks to your KZbin clips (and attending church regularly). The message is clearly up to us to choose -- we either love fully or we suffer and are tempted to sin.

the vast majority of christians dont even understand the Reason of why jesus was crusified… what is important is: sins were washed away in the old covenant by offering blood (sacrifice) through the tabernacle to god Eternal spirit (old covenant). (since sin became part of our nature god need the essence of the physical life itself to wash sins away (read hebrew and leviticus). that's why jews were offering sacrifice (blood) to god Eternal spirit through the tabernacle for the expiation of their sins... since jesus offered his own blood to the Eternal spirit of god, sins can be washed away through the blood that jesus offered himself to the Eternal spirit of god during his crusifixion, that's why jesus is since then the only mediator of this new covenant… that's why satan denies the crusifixion to denie the blood that is used by god in the new covenant to wash away the sins of human being on this earth… (islam). if you cant explain the role of the blood in the old and new covenant, the crusifixion make no sens and you discrediting god words and why jesus was crusified.

Greg - Just because you say there is no God certainly doesn't change the truth of God's existence. Have you ever searched for the existence of God by reading through the Bible? If not than your assumption is nothing more then an assumption. Why should God reveal Himself to someone who isn't interested in knowing Him; although He has made Himself knows to a select few who hadn't searched for Him such as King Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon and even to his son and grandson as we are told in the Book of Daniel. King Nebuchadnezzar, a heathen, one of the most wicked of all Babylonian's even wrote chapter 4 in the Book of Daniel. God has chosen to hide Himself, but to those who fear Him, He will reveals His heart’s desires. In Psalms 91:1, He refers to His place of hiding as the secret place. Only those who fear God will find this secret place, as we are told: The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant (Psalm 25:14). But in truth, God has revealed Himself to all nations and all people through His Creation of the universe in all of it's wonders and His WORD, the Bible. Those that refuses to see, choose to be blinded from the truth He has given us. Let no one say you are stupid for denying the truth, but rather he who refuses to look for the truth... Please consider for a few minutes, it is utterly impossible to make a honest and truthful negative statement that something or someone has never existed unless you have knowledge of all known past history. Wisdom is gained from what man has experienced in life, but godly wisdom comes from God. There is nothing in this life that man can say for a certainty, unless he has seen, or experienced directly that which pertains to his statements, beliefs, or faith. In other words, for man to say, “I know God does not exist,” just because he personally has not experienced a life changing event is nothing less than his own speculations. Even if a wise man claims he is wise or he displays his degrees from years of studying, without faith in God, he still lacks the ability to comprehend or understand the existence of God, because his wisdom is that of the world’s. I believe the true measure of a real man is seen how he treats the truth, is he even interested in knowing the truth, does he accept the truth or does he reject the truth to be popular with the majority; because the vast majority has always rejected godly truth. Greg, please, let's consider for a few minutes that it was possible to condenses and combine all of man's known knowledge throughout all of man's history in this world, to fill only one container to the brim. Now of what portion of this container could you claim? First let me say, I just barely graduated from high school; I can't build a rocket ship, I can't fly a jetliner, I can't defend anyone in a court of law, I couldn't rebuild a engine if my life depended upon it but I can shift the gears in a big truck and travel all across the USA, without getting lost. So, I am guessing all of my known knowledge wouldn't even equal 1% of all of man's known knowledge within this container. Greg, even if you were to claim to have 50% of all man's known knowledge, which we both know that would be impossible, don't you think God could be hidden in the 50% you have no knowledge of? Your only sensible answer can be, "Yes!" But, if you were to still claim that you know there is no such thing as God, now that would prove to us all that it is either your deep seated hatred or your stubbornness that is keeping you from the truth of knowing God. I offer you a small portion of my evidence that I know God does exist if you will Google: "Watchman On The Wall - The Greater Message." I have no reason to lie in this message, in fact the Bible warns us that liars will have their part in the lake of fire and a lie about the Holy Spirit would be blasphemy against the Holy Spirit; that I will not do. The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it (Jeremiah 17:9)? There are none that are good (That is compared to God), all have sinned and the wages of sin is death. I suggest that you open the Bible to read the Book of John in the New Testament, and than to continue with the Books of Acts and Romans... If your dead set against the Bible than please at least read "The Case for Faith" or "The Case for Christ" both of which were written by a former atheist, Lee Strobel. The choice to believe or not believe is entirely up to the individual, no one can force anyone to believe in God and God wouldn't want it any other way.

Let me explain to you the importance of His sacrifice , how does it work and how much He loves the world. In the ancient days , starting with Adam and Eve when God clothe them with animal skins after they have sinned, to Abraham when God asked him to sacrifice his first born child ( and God stopped him and said to him NO I will provide the sacrifice )... all the way to King Solomon's Temple. They were instructed by God to sacrifice a animal for their sin. The used to sacrifice an animal for their sin and mixed the blood in the bowl of water as the high priest were sprinkling the WATER and BLOOD on the Ark of the Covenant saying God's name Yahweh or YHWH ( as Jesus side ran blood and water from his side dripping on the Ark of the Covenant which was very beneath him). YHWH in ancient paleo Hebrew, every letter had a meaning of its own but matching the whole word as well ( which only Paleo Hebrew can do this ). YHWH means ( read from right to left) H = Behold V = Man H = Behold Y =Nail Now what is the importance of the sacrifice? Why is it necessary for our sins? And most important, why did Jesus offered himself for our sins? Let's say I killed someone and then I regret it and turned to God asking for forgiveness . Now, God is a loving God, and God is just because God is all good ,right? We know God is good because He punishes evil, right? God is fair and just to all of us , regardless if we are sinners ( and every single one of us have fallen short). No matter how hard we try, God standards is way too high and impossible for man to reach. Now, as a loving God , God will forgive me, but what about the victim? It will not be fair for him. As a just and fair God ,He must punish me, or else He is not just. Now this is what God did ( and it is written throughout the entire Old Testament about a messiah coming to take the sin of the world) ,Yeshua Hamashiach/Jesus Christ/Isous Xpistos (His name Immanuel which means God with us) had to be born by a virgin, so He doesn't bear Adam's sin. Mary was the host and the seed was from God. ( make no mistake, Jesus Christ was God himself). So Jesus live a sinless life and by offering himself for the sins of others, we are saved! So now, God can forgive me because I asked for forgiveness from him, and now Jesus Christ offered himself to the victim which I killed in my place! So with other words ,God is being fair to the the victim also that I killed. Jesus Christ stepped in and spilled his own blood instead of me. So Jesus Christ took My Punishment instead of me! Now because God is just and loving, God showed himself in a human body, was mocked, spit on, beaten, and went to the Cross by his own free will, in order for us that might be saved. Now that is a loving God and worthy of worshipping. What is the significance of Jesus crucifixion. "John 3:16-21King James Version (KJV) 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." John 1:29 “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” Adam and Eve only sinned once and got kicked out of the garden. Lucifer sinned once and got kicked out of paradise. Isaiah 64:6King James Version (KJV) 6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

honest question since u used the example analogy of a victim u murdered - according to majority of christian belief, everyone is condemned n sinful unless they repent n believe. what if the victim u murdered is an unbeliever? who cares about u getting punished for ur sin becos you killed the victim, when the victim himself is going to get punished after death too? Why would God care about serving justice for your murder when both u and the victim are supposed to be punished equally in the eyes of God anyway?

Thank you father Barron for this extremely clear explanation of Jesus reasons to die. God neded to make us see all the evil in us and in others. Showing us at the same time, the goodness, mercy and LOVE he has for the entire humanity giving us all for free, salvation for free. he put us in a certain point where we need to decide, to go to God or remain in evil.

+hoopoe bird why would Paul made this things up and die for it? so goes to the rest of the apostles. they all were martyred. Mohammed did'nt give up his life for his teachings, he even escaped persecution. And Jesus did not want to save himself from the cross, he willingly die in the cross. That's what divine love is. To will the good of others. Not like Islam way of love which is selfish.

Jesus showed us a way to heaven by overcoming the human tendencies (sin) with help of spirit of God. First step is to believe in Jesus then we should think, act and overcome the sin or else we will reap what we sow. Sin is still in this world but there is a way out the one who follows finds salvation, until then we can keep on talking and carry on sinnuful ways to live a dead life.

waterborne I am stuck here as well. I appreciate the priests ( I am not Catholic, pardon me if I use the incorrect title) explanation... however, it does not w plain how or why a blood sacrifice was needed. I believe God is and God can, meaning anything and everything, so a blood sacrifice seems so ... man made. Especially since it was the tradition of the time. I pray for clarity, because this does not seem right to me.

I watched this twice, and I’m still thinking about the subject. Obviously, the reason for the crucifixion and how it leads to our salvation is a mystery that will always be debated. However, I remembered back to an early episode, where you spoke of the narrow gate, and it got me thinking: Maybe Christ redeems us by being the 1st human to live and die without sin, and the crucifixion is a sort of “final exam”, if you will, a final test where Christ shows that he does not hate, but forgives the people who mock, torture and kill him and remains sinless. Being without sin would obviously be much harder during the passion than anything up to that point. When in the garden when he asked that this cup might pass, he, being human, might have hoped that his sinless state up to that point might have been enough without suffering through the final test.

Your Jesus said the followings: Do you still love him? *** Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother... Matthew 10:34-36 *** If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters-yes, even their own life... Luke 14:26 *** But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them-bring them here and kill them in front of me. Luke 19:26-27 *** If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. John 15:6 Burning of unbelievers during the Inquisition was based on these words of Jesus. *** Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. Matthew 12:30 *** When one of Jesus disciples requested time off for his father's funeral, Jesus rebuked him: "Let the dead bury their dead.” Matthew 8:22 *** The servant [slave] who knows the master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows. Luke 12:47-48 Jesus okays beating slaves/servants. ***…And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. Matthew 19:29 if you really love Jesus then abandon your wife, children & etc. *** Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother... Luke 12:51-53 *** For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and mother, and, ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death. Mark 7:10 *** He said to them, “Go!” So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water. Matthew 8:32 here Jesus drowned innocent animals. *** Matthew 6:34, 6:19-20. Don’t plan for future…, don’t save money…. *** Mark 3:29, Matthew 13:41-42 & 25:46 & 23:33, Luke 13:3 here Jesus shows selfishness & intolerance that he demands belief from others or he threatens them with eternal damnation. Love me, otherwise I will hurt you. *** Matthew 23:14 & 12:34 & 23:17, John 8:44 & 8:55, Luke 11:39 here Jesus gives vehement name callings. Racist groups have used these verses to justify their hatred for Jews. Martin Luther used these Jesus’ words to justify his anti-semitism. *** … and I will strike her children dead… Revelation 2:22-23 here Jesus is at odds with a woman, Jezebel & threatens her with killing of her children.

Sometimes i wonder why Jesus had to die on a cross and the answer to that is simple. It was a act of God's divine love to redeem the world from corruption and sin. I remember one Friday during Lent, i was doing stations of the cross with my priest and i asked him why did Jesus undergo this painful execution. He answered what i just said. But it was up to Governor Pilate either to release him or give into the crowd's demand. He made the only decision and we know it. But above all, his resurrection brings us hope.

the vast majority of christians dont even understand the Reason of why jesus was crusified… what is important is: sins were washed away in the old covenant by offering blood (sacrifice) through the tabernacle to god Eternal spirit (old covenant). (since sin became part of our nature god need the essence of the physical life itself to wash sins away (read hebrew and leviticus). that's why jews were offering sacrifice (blood) to god Eternal spirit through the tabernacle for the expiation of their sins... since jesus offered his own blood to the Eternal spirit of god, sins can be washed away through the blood that jesus offered himself to the Eternal spirit of god during his crusifixion, that's why jesus is since then the only mediator of this new covenant... that's why satan denies the crusifixion to denie the blood that is used by god in the new covenant to wash away the sins of human being on this earth… (islam). if you cant explain the role of the blood in the old and new covenant, the crusifixion make no sens and you discrediting god words and why jesus was crusified.

This presents the Christus Victor view of atonement. Somewhat similar to J Denny Weaver's Narrative Christus Victor that he presents in his book, The Nonviolent Atonement. The dominant Protestant view is one of Satisfaction Atonement (developed around 1100 CE by Anselm). Particularly penal substitution. Neither really answers the title question of why Jesus had to die the way he did. Whether it was to satisfy God's sense of justice, or as a result of human sin, or as a ransom payment to the devil, it still feels like it is playing with words and symbols.

Romans 5:12-21 (KJV) Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nothings free, someone has to pay the price. When Adam committed the original sin he imputed sin to many, Jesus being the only man to walk the earth free from sin was the only acceptable payment "The spotless Lamb" Because he paid the price we are saved by his grace. This pope lied when he said Jesus was a failure at the cross for as many as have accepted Jesus have been save, and we who are called Christian have life and have it more abundantly.

If that puts me into the pits of fiery hell then at least I am happy to know which way I am going because that is what I've been struggling with, am I for God or for Satan. Was confused because I know in my heart I am a good person and I would give the shirt off my back for anyone who needed it, but I am learning that is not God's way. I could never live with myself knowing I never did anything to help save him. My conscious would never let me live with it. Peace and Love.
