Saw a game in Baltimore a couple years ago where the shift was on, and with man on 3rd, the 3rd baseman was playing essentially shortstop, and the lead sometime reached 2/3 of the way to the plate, and he still didn't steal. Was driven in later, though, so wasn't necessary, but wow was that weird to see live.

See I thought at that moment that the pitcher was on the rubber in his full windup because in that situation when your in a full windup and with the bases loaded. Your giving every runner including the runner at third pretty much a walking lead. Plus as a base runner you are taught to look at the defense in where they are playing before the pitcher steps onto the rubber. Because it will give the runner an indication in how much of a lead to get but it also depends on how many outs there are and what the score is. But the Mariners had the bases loaded to where they could have capitalized on the situation but a play like this just kills the momentum that the Mariners had

On paper it's bad, in practice it's probably not that bad or even slightly good. Depends a bit on how wild the pitcher was, the score, time of the game, etc. (chkd and the pitcher had thrown 3 pretty wild balls so stealing is def. bad there).

Aggressiveness on the pads is needed more in baseball. But timing is everything. Not with 2outs, 3-0 count. As an umpire, I'll see youth players attempt to steal 2nd on 3-0. I'm amazed at the ignorance. Sometimes you're in a conversation with the catcher about a runner attempting to steal. Dear sports directors....ALWAYS STAY ON THE FUCKING PLAY! As long as the ball is life, there is never ANY need to show close ups of players...and no matter what, there is never EVER any need to show the god damn crowd! A sports telecast is supposed to be the eyes of viewers. What they would be watching if they were at the game. And NO ONE goes to a sporting event with binoculars and stares at other fans in the crowd. Ever.

Those MLB TV directors lack awareness of defensive positioning, and rarely show runners and INFs as the ball is pitched. Backinna day, main camera site was in mezzanine behind home, *not* CF; a blessing for students of the game, and HP umps.
