100% agree, i'm pulling the engine from our 1953 Chevy 3100 and i'm basically using hand tools. No extra plastics and fluff, can almost fit IN the engine bay.

Exactly. So damn easy

12:00 I'm an 'old car' guy with electrical and electronic interests combined. I'd be sure to repackage that ignition module to tidy up the wiring.

Msd box wiring was making me anxious about the rest of the wiring in that car.

Dan, when I saw the lack of shoulder on the new starter I almost had a heart attack. I replaced the starter on my 360 last summer after a clutch job. I noticed a scraping sound on the test drive. It was too tall with no shoulder and milling the ring gear! Luckily I didn't run it long. The manufacturer was horrified but replaced it for me. (An Italian parts supplier) They had a few screw-ups on the assembly line and were glad we caught it early. I pray I didn't grenade my engine but it survived another year with a new ac condenser and water pump. My mechanic buddy has modified and raced exotics and was pretty sure we were OK. The proper starter has a shoulder on it for clearance. The new one on the GT40 looks shorter without the shoulder so it allows the same clearance. Good luck and enjoy the car.

Hmm, well it seems to be working so I think we're all set.

@@normalguysupercar Kudos on the 599 headers. What a ton of work! I may go with Fabspeeds on my 360 next year.

Well in my 03 Porsche I could see the engine. In my 17 911 the bumper has to be removed to replace the air filter.

Dan, if the Powermaster starter doesn't work as well as you hoped it would, try one by Meziere. Also, the starters are easier to "re and re" if you use studs and nuts rather than bolts to mount them.
@normalguysupercarАй бұрын
Ah yes good idea on the studs

Your best stories always start out with, “my ‘71 Cutlass”. And you’re so right; my Ford parts are a fraction of the price of my Ferrari parts.
@normalguysupercarАй бұрын
Yeah it's hard to beat these prices

I miss my 56 F-100 MY 641/2 Mustang my 67 Fairlane. They were so easy to work on. Plenty of room to do anything and common sense mechanics.

If you guys start to offer speciality mechanic services, that would really make some great content, wrenching in sport cars, super cars, and muscle cars. Gorgeous Cutlass Btw, not so much for the jeans lol.

So, with your Cutlass you did a Jay Leno imitation? 😃 I too miss the simplicity of the older cars. In the past I had to clock a number alternators.
@normalguysupercarАй бұрын
Jay Leno did a Dan impression. Lol! This was over 20 years ago

Wondering if the loose positive terminal on the starter was the issue and not the starter itself. Does not matter now.

I don't think so. I think the solenoid was going bad and over heating

It’s even easier on a Ferrari 512TR/ testarossa. 2 bolts on the top/back of the engine. Conclusion: Ferraris are the easiest to work on 😂
