Hello, my overseas brothers, we Japanese are angry about Assassin's Creed Shadows and UBI. But day by day, history is being revised and Yasuke is being spread as a legendary samurai. We want to stop this revision of history. So we're sending you a song that expresses our anger, sadness, and doubts about the DEI of the game. Please listen.

Do not listen the westerners who criticize you. You are correct to defend your culture. This game is marketed as being historically accurate, but it is a lie. And yes, there are many racist westerners who will tell you that you must allow your culture to be perverted. The difference is that Dark Souls is fantasy, but Assassin's Creed is claiming to be historical fact. Japan has given us many wonderful interpretations of western culture, for example the beautiful architecture and aesthetic of Dark souls and Attack On Titan. There is no problem with interpreting culture, but claiming it to be historical fact is BAD.
They may think it's a distinction, but it's discrimination. I wonder if it was a similar feeling to making the protagonist of a story about being summoned to another world written by a Japanese person Japanese? However, it seems UBI didn't know that Japan is not an alternate world, that it actually exists, and that it has a long history.

I just want to say as a black person. All I wanted was a real Japanese game set in Japan with real Japanese characters. Just like Ghost of Tsushima. I never wanted Yasuke or anything like that. Yasuke was forced on everyone of us, mostly by people who aren't black like Thomas Lockley.

I was quite disappointed when I first heard about what Ubisoft did with Yasuke. When I first visited Japan in 2009, I went to see the Gifu castle, and it was there that I first learnt of Yasuke and what little there was to be known of his history - of how he was part of a European (Portuguese, I believe) missionary group, led by a priest who demanded all of his assistants be fluent in the languages of the countries they went to, and how he ended up meeting Nobunaga and the warlord ended up claiming the man as one of his own for reasons unknown. In Nioh 2 they already promoted him to a samurai, which he wasn't historically, but there the entire setting was already quite deeply rooted in fantasy - so it didn't bother me. But the reality is that according to the old (500-years old or so) paintings and text I saw at the Gifu castle, he was a retainer to Nobunaga - or something akin to a squire at the time - but by no means a genuine samurai. To be a samurai back then meant you would have been something akin to an actual noble, and there is no way in Hell there would be so little information available of him had he been one. True, Nobunaga broke a lot of traditions back then, and there is a very real possibility that he might have eventually promoted Yasuke to the rank of a genuine samurai one day - had he survived to see the end of the war and won. But in less than two years that they knew each other? No, there is no way he would have done that in that time. Not to mention Yasuke would have had to learn not just extensive amount of samurai etiquette, swordsmanship, and God only knows what else to even qualify as a genuine samurai - and you just couldn't do it in that short amount of time. To have done so, would have been a spit into the face of all the other samurai working under Nobunaga, and he most certainly did not seem to be that stupid. And then there's Toyotomi Hideoshi; he followed in Nobunaga's footsteps and took over after the latter's death, and he most certainly would have not allowed Yasuke to remain a samurai had Nobunaga promoted him to such. For Hideoshi ended up hating Christianity and westerners, and sought to expunge them and their influence from the country when he took over. He even put up manhunts against Christians and Jesuits within the country; going even as far as having people crucified - though it is uncertain it if was by his orders directly, or just someone under his command going too far. In fact, I find it quite hilarious at times that in modern media they paint the man as either a goofball, a moron, or otherwise quite eccentric character, when in reality he was a cunning and quite imaginative war engineer, whose ingenuity won him several important battles during the warring period. And this has been done by the Japanese game developers, mangaka and anime creators themselves, no less - so they can't blame the westerners for that. Also, I find it highly insulting that they had to make him gay just for the sake for some DEI-points from their ESG-overlords at Blackrock. This historical revisionism has been going for far too long unchecked everywhere - and not just in Japan - that is a high time people started fighting back against this mental disease.

@@FourthMan82 thanks for the detailed background, it's fascinating and I appreciate your time. Your words calling for some form of governance of the global gaming community feels like a greater echo of an unspoken general desire of the world at large. We lack true, uncorrupted governance - how to fix? 🤷♂ I'm a firm believer in organized rule, anything else would be chaos, anarchy, yet how to achieve true fairness and incorruptibility? Writing up stuff has never been the issue, we're good at theory and manifesto's are abundant, it's practice that slams us with the cold shower of human meekness. PS: I've reread my reply after a brief respite and I fear I sound like I'm trying to foment a rebellion. I promise, I am not.
@joeywelldone4496 I am. But I'll let you in on a secret. Most and pretty much every black person I've talked to didn't want this or ask for. The Thomas Lockley/David Atkinson Wikipedia revelation shows that I was right. The entire thing was fabricated by no black people. Of course, there are some who love the Yasuke story but black people love anime and Japanese characters and are not into race swapping. That's a Hollywood/ new age woke thing.
Gamer from Italy here, who played so many Japanese videogames over the years, from Mario to Yakuza and everything in between. Japanese gamers, stay strong and reject any attempt at rewriting your national history by failed western woke companies such as Ubisoft. This is completely unacceptable, Italian gamers stand with you against this travesty.
Yasuke was not even a samurai but just a servant who chored Nobunaga. He had no surname which every samurai had. Ubisoft shouldn't have claimed that the story was based on the real Japanese history. That all the Japanese people are raging about. Ubisoft should've clearly stated it was a fictional story for a game.
@@Welldonewaryaaa The root of this issue stems from the developers' statements and claims that "You can study Japanese history through this game" and "Yasuke was a real samurai who existed in history." If they had clearly stated "This game is fiction" as in previous Assassin's Creed titles, about 90% of the current criticism would not exist. It's not too late to correct or retract these statements even now. Let's start by understanding the UBI director's statements. Beyond that, there are numerous other issues, such as unauthorized use of copyrighted materials and cultural properties, historical distortions by Thomas Lockley, and so on. The discussion has already progressed far beyond the initial stage. You haven't even reached the starting line yet. Anyway, since you seem to know nothing about the situation, let's start by grasping the current state of affairs. If you need help gathering information, I'd be happy to assist.

They don't seem to care that they lose millions of players in the process, this tells me the money they make from good DEI scores must be astronomical.

@@01234XYZ1230 Another American here! While many Western countries push the idea of extreme 'political correctness' there are many citizens of those countries who fight against it. Unfortunately many of the bigger and older media outlets are the ones who push these ideas, while calling the citizens who disagree 'racist' or 'a small minority'. On the American/English side of KZbin there are many big KZbinrs and Streamers who are calling this out, but these voices are easy to hide when corporations like Ubisoft have so much money, power, and influence to drown us out worldwide. But there is hope! Apparently Ubisoft is selling games so poorly that they may lose their studio to the investors! AC Shadows will likely be 'the last nail in the coffin' so to speak.

I know you're trying to gatekeep to fit your personal agenda or defend your favourite video company, but at some point you gotta admit, they fucked up. Video game with fantasy elements, fine by me, but don't role your agenda all over peoples faces and don't try to claim you're in a very specific historical period and alter all the history behind it, while claiming it's a work of fiction.
This is so disrespectful to Japanese History. They should just drop the game at this point, or come out and say "This game is total fiction and is set in an Alternate reality" . But the amount of damage they have done to themselves at this point, other than removing Yasuke completely from the game and put an actual Japanese Samurai as protagonist, the game will flop...all those years of development and money spent are going to be lost. All of this was completely avoidable...why didn't they ask a reputable Japanese Historian, and base the game on a real historical figure? Awful lot of cool personages they could have made a game about. I'm American and I'm offended by this travesty.
