It looks like people are assuming that we only get ending slides mentioning "anarchy" or "chaos" if we have bad karma, or make poor decisions. That's not true. The ending slide I showed in this video that says "chaos became uncertainty" is a default Independent ending slide that does not change based on karma. We get this slide if we choose to upgrade and power House's securitron army. If we chose not to, we get an even worse Independent ending. We learn that "...the remaining Securitrons on The Strip were hard-pressed to keep order. Anarchy ruled the streets." So even the better of the two Independent endings mentions chaos. The Boomer ending mentioning anarchy which I showed in this video is the best one available. We get this slide by siding with Yes Man, and completing the Boomer's quest Volare!. The Brotherhood ending I showed in this video is the best one available. We get it by siding with Yes Man, and completing the Brotherhood quests by favoring Elder McNamara. The only other ending slides we get with an Independent ending, is if we kill the Brotherhood (everyone is dead) or if we convince the Brotherhood to support the NCR. In the case of the latter, we also learn that the Brotherhood harasses travelers. So there is no Independent ending, aside from killing the Brotherhood, that keeps the roads safe from highwaymen. The fiend ending is the one we get when we side with Yes Man and have not killed the fiend's leaders. It is the only one to mention anarchy. Even under the same conditions (all fiend leaders remain alive) we do not read about anarchy by siding with any other faction. The Followers ending slide that mentions instability and violence is the only Yes Man ending slide for the Followers. We get this simply by choosing an Independent New Vegas. Edit: To address a few common arguments: Some viewers are suggesting that the Courier has experience nation-building, because we learn he was responsible for "building" Hopeville/Ashton. But this is only true by Ulysses' strange brand of logic. All the Courier did was deliver packages to Hopeville/Ashton. He/she was not involved in the governance of those places. Ulysses recognized that it was a steady stream of supplies, provided by the Courier, that helped build Hopeville/Ashton. So, by that logic, the Courier built a nation--by delivering packages. A charming thought, but it doesn't prove that the Courier has any experience nation-building, or that he/she would be good at it. Some viewers mention that the Courier/Yes Man's lack of experience nation-building is no reason to doubt their ability, and then bring up the American founding fathers as examples. The problem is that the Courier is one man/woman with no experience governing anything. The founding fathers were dozens of men from all walks of life with combined decades worth of experience--some of which was in government. Comparing the Courier to America's founding fathers is no comparison at all. I hear that one of the devs clarified on Twitter or Formspring that when Yes Man became more "assertive", all this means is that he could no longer be controlled by anyone other than the Courier. That's fine, but it doesn't change anything. The fact that Yes Man, of his own volition, chose to install an upgrade into himself to become more assertive, is still disturbing. The Courier, who controls Yes Man, did not ask him to do so. This is evidence of independent thought, desire, personality, and free will. Which is scary for a robot to have. It also doesn't change the fact that some day the Courier will die. So, even including the clarification from the devs, with Yes Man we have a powerful robot who, after the Courier's death, is commanded by no one, and yet has access to arguably the world's most powerful army, and runs the nation of New Vegas. With no one to tell him what to do. Scary.

It's for reasons like this that make me think that maybe the Yes Man ending was rushed. I think even with the Yes Man ending, New Vegas is capable of becoming free. I think the developers either or rush into completing it, or they did it to once again give the players a difficult decision to make. I personally think the New Vegas ending with Yes Man should have only become Anarchic and chaotic if we only did a half hearted job in doing the quests (simply telling Yes Man to leave the tribes alone without doing each tribe's quests, destroying the securitron army, not convincing the Followers to help, etc.), but if we were much more effort by completing most the quest along with the other smaller things and keeping the securitron army, that should have allowed Vegas to be more prosperous and also more safe. And yeah, I never thought about what Yes Man becoming more assertive might mean. Other sources however claim that Yes Man becoming more assertive means that he will only listen to the Courier.

From the Fiends ending slide we know that the anarchy only lasted months and as such is hardly the permanent state of affairs. The reason why Yes man is good for the Mojave is that it's anything the player wants it to be. My own ending was the estaishment of a Roman Republic style system. Also as others have stated it was confirmed by the devs that Yes Man reprogram himself to only follow the Couriers orders.

I'm sure others have pointed this out, but the devs have said that Yes Man's "assertiveness upgrade" was specifically him programming himself so he would be exclusively loyal to the Courier. The upgrade is him protecting himself from being used against you in the future. He wants to be YOUR Yes Man, and yours alone.

Well the independent ending as I understand is more about the combination of all minor faction and community endings rather than about a major faction. The combination of the minor faction and community endings will tell how life is in the Mojave. Assuming you went for a "good" and independent ending for everyone: -The upgraded securitrons restore order quickly with minimal deaths. If unupgraded it'll just take a bit longer.(duh. anarchy is a state that is temporary and impossible to sustain even artificially. social order will be established one way or another because this is human nature). -The Boomers are fine. -I'm unsure which of the Brotherhood endings is "good". The one where they patrol the area does not say if they help anyone or do any good, other than harassing people for tech so blowing them up might be the better call because you made communities stable in the area already. -The Fiends are wiped out. -The Followers do not get the "best" outcome from an independent ending. Ironically the NCR ending is the best for them. -Goodsprings is the prosperous of all of it's endings. -The Khans leave. -The cure for Nightkin schizophrenia is found and so Jacobstown is a prosperous, peaceful, friendly community. -Freeside is the most stable place in the area and ironically the best place for NCR citizens. -Novac is rebuilt with the help of the Bright Followers and remains independent. -The Powder Gangers of the NCRCF are wiped out, and of Vault 19 those who could joined the Great Khans. -Primm is stable and independent under a new sheriff. -The rangers support the troopers in the battle of Hoover Dam and General Oliver takes full credit as he set it up in the first place so he gets all the blame for the loss. Chief Hanlon becomes a senator. -The Remnants flex on everybody and the Legion retardedly loses thousands trying to chase them. The Yes Man ending is not about Yes Man being the governor of the Mojave. It's an independent Mojave.

@@therealpizzagirl You're only thinking of external menaces. The securitron army means the Mojave is one assassination away (yours) from becoming a totalitarian robot dictatorship in the service of whoever kills you. Incidentally that's another reason to leave the BoS as powerful as possible.

Just thought I would point out that JE Sawyer has stated that the purpose of Yes Man reprogramming himself at the end is simply to make him accept orders only from the Courier. In response to the statement "That seems to be what everyone reads into it-- Yes Man reprogramming himself to be more 'assertive' is kind of ominous!", Sawyer says "[H]e will not just roll over for the next person to walk up to him in the Courier's absence. I.e. he will become a somewhat-independent steward instead of a powerful tool for any random person to use for nefarious purposes." If I had to guess, I'd say that the ending slides are there more for the purposes of giving us story closure, rather than to restrict our imaginations to these "canonical" outcomes. If the Courier you were roleplaying as would have gone out of their way to ensure the Followers had enough resources to take care of Vegas's medical needs, for example, I think we can assume that that's what the outcome would be. If our headcanon Courier is benevolent and resourceful, it's not unreasonable to think that they would do a better job running Vegas than House or any of the other factions.
@charlie1234500
@charlie1234500 3 жыл бұрын
Just because you're benevolent or resourceful doesn't mean by default, you know how to govern or run societies, large or small. That's just silly. That's why Mr. House is a better option. He knows how to run a society and with the Courier being his protege, will teach him or her for when his end inevitably occurs. The Courier will have experience by the teachings of Mr. House and will be an excellent replacement. Caesar's Legion is similar as well.
@catotheelder487
@catotheelder487 3 жыл бұрын
@@charlie1234500 I think you miss the point of his argument. It isn't simply benevolence that a courier of good nature can possess. Throughout the game there are many options such as those to clear out the fiends leaders, resolve water problems for the sharecroppers, restore order and loyalty to the strip and a whole plethora of other quests for smaller settlements that include dealing with rabble and sorting out basic needs for the people of New Vegas. Not only would that endear the courier to the people of the Mojave but also demonstrates an ability to solve many of the issues that come with governance. All of these demonstrate an ability to take charge in a difficult situation and a care for the people, two necessary ingredients for stable leadership. And a possible argument to the contrary is that the courier wont have time to do these things on their own, however the large number of capable individuals that can be recruited as companions can be delegated to tasks such as these or more realistically, they will be in charge of the delegation of these tasks to further subordinates. The companions throughout fallout new vegas are more than capable: Boone is a skilled veteran who can muster the armies, Veronica is an ex-Brotherhood scribe who could take over the scientific developments and Arcade Gannon is an Enclave affiliated medical professional. Need I say more? The Yes Man Ending is the only one that provides a chance for a good New Vegas because it provides the player the agency to decide what happens, and that is the only option where there is a chance the people are New Vegas are actually cared for. And with Bethesda's tendency to lean towards the good karma endings, this would be a more than likely outcome for a Yes Man Ending.

I think you're misinterpreting the situation if you side with Yes Man. Yes Man's cryptic "I found some code to make me more assertive..." is supposed to be the line that explains he'll be harder to convince if somebody tries to take him over again, not that he's going to betray you. This was confirmed by Avellone and Sawyer. It also implies he'll be more helpful in managing the Mojave. If you keep the factory under the Legion Fort running, then the Securitron Army has no end... Even more if you keep the Think Tank operating out of Big Mountain, as they have their own access to high technology. Julie Farkas's hesitation to support New Vegas is echoed when you try to convince her to help House. However, the one thing that I think is causing you to misinterpret the ending is one major glaring flaw with the game. The game is incomplete. The endings are incomplete. Due to the time constraints Bethesda put on them, Obsidian had trouble getting everything they wanted into the game. This included a more positive portrayal of the Legion, to make the decision between the factions a lot more ambiguous. This included adding more robust endings to account for everything you've done. If you play the game as somebody who genuinely has the future of the Mojave in mind, then you HAVE made the allies you need to rule the region. You HAVE put in place the groundwork for nation building. You HAVE put the thought in to keep the Mojave independent and prosperous for years to come, perhaps even generations. Unfortunately, the ending slides don't account for any of it, as if you were never there to begin with, as if you have no real interest in what happens to this place wherein you've invested so much of your time. I think one of the worst failings of the game is that the ending slides imply your character suddenly stops giving a damn and just lets everything turn to shit, leaving the factions to fend for themselves. Worse, some of the slides start to contradict themselves, such as the ones talking about chaos in Freeside and the Kings keeping the peace. You also don't always lie to Julie Farkas. If you've dumped mountains of chems and medicine on their doorstep and done some errands for them, you can ASSURE her that you'll support the FoA... Which Obsidian apparently forgot to account for as their deadline came up (there are no good endings for the Followers aside from one of the Legion endings where they're allowed to leave in peace). It would have been interesting if the game could have been expanded or given a sequel. It would have been interesting to see the shape of the Mojave after the Last Battle at Hoover Dam. Unfortunately, Bethesda has cut Obsidian out and made it clear that they have no intention of letting anybody else work with the IP again. For shame. This was one of the best games ever made, even with all of its flaws. It's too bad we may never see what happened in the long run.

let's put it like this, The Courier will most likely run in an 'Overseer' fashion, trying to accomplish Mr House's vision without sacrificing his humanity, pooling all of his resources together in order to create a form of Government body (an New Vegas Republic of some description) and including all the allied Minor Factions in defending the Mojave (the Boomers Artillery & Planes, The Brotherhood patrolling the roads, The Kings & Followers making life in Freeside more Livable).
@fristnamelastname5549
@fristnamelastname5549 5 жыл бұрын
@@snoopyfoster6 But let's say New Vegas forms a Republic, then how dose the country function? Who collects the taexs? Who would repair the damage roads? How dose the Courier legitimize his's/her's position of power? Dose New Vegas just have Robots for an Army? Or do they have the Manpower too create a Human Army? The Robots may sound like a safe choice for the New Country, but Fallout has a habit of Rogue AI's taking control of the Robots, and going on a massive killing spree. Examples are the "Broken Mask", the Weapons vender in Goodneighbor (I forgother name.), Curicy from Vault 95, and the Calculator from the Midwest Brotherhood game. (It's based in Chicago.) Although, these are from Fallout 4, and the other one is from pre fallout 3, you could argue that the Couriers could install a program to protect themselves from that happening. But it depends on how mush science skill you have, and if the Courier can maintain there control of the Robot Army. Then, you got the mess that is the out side world. New Vegas is unique. Its suck between The NCR, and Ceasar's Legion. Both who are probably, either super pissed off, or completely pissed. If you keep President Kimball live, and killed General Oliver. Then New Vegas doesn't have too worry about the NCR coming back. But if Kimball is dead, and General Oliver is dead then New Vegas is going to suffer from an embargo. If Kimball, and General Oliver are live, then New vegas may be reinvaded, in the near future. If Ceasar is dead, then his Legion will fall apart. But if Ceasar is live, then New Vegas may suffer from raids from the Legion for a little while.
@snoopyfoster6
@snoopyfoster6 5 жыл бұрын
True enough, but i have planned ahead for this predicament. The fate of an independent New Vegas is not set in stone, it changes over the course of events as it grows. Phase 1: Aftermath During the aftermath of 'The Second Battle of Hoover Dam', the streets of New Vegas do become violent as anarchy ensues, that much is true, sometime soon however, a huge onslaught of Securitrons inhabit The Strip, Freeside and Outer New Vegas, ending all forms of voilence, crime & Chaos quickly and thoroughly. Henceforth, as the slide entails "the Courier was recognized as the man responsible for a truly free New Vegas. He ensured Mr. House's tyranny was broken and neither Caesar's Legion nor NCR would ever gain control over New Vegas" so its not that far-fetched that after all the work the Courier has done for the people of New Vegas, they in turn recognize him as their new leader (of sorts) thus legitimizing his position of power. So at this point in time, it starts out like a 'Pseudo Autocracy' with the Courier at the helm and the Securitrons serve as the primary army of New Vegas. With that, the Courier heavily endorses the Followers with a wealth of supplies & technology in hopes of restarting civilization, then 'cours'es' with the the Kings to help clean up Freeside with securitrons in tow. Phase 2: Changing of the Guard After an allotted time has passed by, The borders of the Strip have been expanded into Freeside, the Manpower within the NVR has increased considerably and the securitons have a reduced role in the army, serving as enforcers in a squad while still having a major presence within the walls of New Vegas. With an Military Doctrine established, the Courier carves a footprint out in the Mojave: - Securing a more active alliance with the Boomers & the Brotherhood - Claim camp McCarran to serve as NVR HQ, as well as another airfield for the Boomers to land and refuel. - Cleansing out infested nests like Cazadors, Radscorpions & Deathclaws - The Brotherhood come topside and help patrol the roads along with NVR personnel (embracing some change) By this point, the Courier has established a fierce-some military which has a firm grip over the Mojave, becoming a sort of Military Dictatorship in the process, claiming Quarry Junction as a resource to repair & maintain the roads, using Black Mountains antenna's & radio stations as the source of all communications in & out of the Mojave, and even possibly upgrading the securitrons to MK 3 & 4 Phase 3: Viva New Vegas By this point in time, a governing (Council) body has been created, now becoming more along the lines of a 'Social-Democracy' but with a few modifications here and there to balance things out and the Courier is playing a much smaller role as an 'Overseer', focusing more on Mr House's vision for the stars.

So the problem with the Independent ending is that the government is weak and unable to make things better and an uncertain future. The problem with the NCR is corruption and inefficiency with bureaucracy. The problem with House is that autocracy and pure business orientation. The problem with Ceaser is enslavement and and inevitable instability. On the plus side Independence is independence for a major power with the (slight) possibility to improve. The NCR Allows for grater stability and a larger sense of Democracy. House allows for more wealth for the Vegas and (Possibly) the Mojave. And Cesaer will have less corruption and better security for traders against raiders. To me it seems like the "Best" ending is dependent on priorities of the player. People who prefer Freedom from outside influence like the Independent ending. Those who prefer Democracy will pick the NCR. Those who are for progress will pick House and those who prefer security will want Ceaser. At least that's what I gather form these video's What do you think about this Oxhorn?
@gildedphoenix
@gildedphoenix 5 жыл бұрын
THIS. Also, the core of Anarcy is what Oxhorn was mentioned. Anarchy bring uncertainty, lack of security, but it gives full freedom back. That's why Independence ending does what it supposed to do which is actually a pretty good deal for an RPG. Not to mention New Vegas never assumes someone is good or bad, it just allows you to see who is more capable for your priorities, just like you said. Yes, NCR is corrupt and bureaucratic mess, but it does bring stability as democracy doesn't care about the leader, but the constitution s/he swore to serve. Yes, House is a tyrannical capitalist but he has a plan to restore America through his company and its technology. And he even accepts being a tyrant as long as he can achieve unity. And yes, Ceaser does enslaves people and commits crimes against mankind, but he is the only capable tyrant that keeps people in check, and can defend its border the best. It's just one way to achieve an ending where you prioritized anarchist left ideology more than any other 3.

NCR is much better for security. If they secure the mojave then by the time that Fallout 4 rolls around, the NCR can have had like 8 years to build their population. They may not have much influence in the east, but we might see NCR patrols in the Capital wastes or near the Commonwealth much like Lyons branch was the Brotherhood's east branch in fallout 3. And in the west, Caesar will have fallen and with the second battle of hoover dam ended and the Legate dealt with, the Legion will no longer be a threat. On top of that, the Courier possibly has the Big MT at their disposal (If you take the DLC into account) that could be used to further technology for the NCR and allow them to rival the Brotherhood or the Institute possibly. Of course, as you pointed out the NCR has corruption. But as a whole, there'd be much more good in the world than bad, but there'd still be bad. That never changes.
@gildedphoenix
@gildedphoenix 4 жыл бұрын
@@ShaggyDabbyDank This is not that easy. NCR cannot move that far East in 7 years they're too thin on the borders for that. Not to mention bureaucratic corruption makes NCR takes much more time to organize such operations in this amount of time. If the army operations continue like this, whole Country starts destabilising greatly, which means rebellions, more insecurity, and less supplies for the army and eventually can even cause the government to fall.
@ShaggyDabbyDank
@ShaggyDabbyDank 4 жыл бұрын
@@gildedphoenix I didn't say the NCR as a whole could move that far east. As I said, little influence. But saying they can't be there is illogical. We see the Brotherhood of Steel in the East. We see the Enclave in the East. Both of which have considerably less members than the NCR. While the NCR lacks in Tech like the Brotherhood and the Enclave, they have large numbers. 7 years with a foothold on Nevada and California, time to strengthen borders and recruit many more members with the victory on Hoover Dam and the failed assassination on Kimball. The NCR doesn't have many threats left in the Mojave after New Vegas ends. Caesar's legion is doomed to fail with the death of Caesar, the Brotherhood is either at peace or wiped out, the khans and the tribes of the strip have been dealt with. There's the wildlife of the Mojave and raider bands. But major threats are gone. NCR can focus recruiting heavily in Nevada now and send troops back west to strengthen borders as they need to, secure supply lines. They can send a forward party of NCR troops off to the East much like how the brotherhood did actually (Which is a big hole in that arguement, why could the Brotherhood send a branch so far to the East when the main branch is on the West coast? Not only that, but the NCR was defeating the Brotherhood so much that when Lyons branch fully split it caused the Main branch of the brotherhood more headaches. If the NCR in the West can dominate the Brotherhood, why can the Brotherhood afford to spare a branch all the way to the East coast, but the NCR can't? In fact this is from the Fallout wiki "Once the Enclave was destroyed by the Chosen One, the Brotherhood was without a foe to face. In an effort to end the stagnation the Brotherhood expanded eastward (most notably the formation of the Mojave chapter under Elder Elijah) and sent out expeditions to recover technology, going as far as the Capital Wasteland in 2255, with the expedition under Senior Paladin Owyn Lyons." "...without a foe to face. In an effort to end the stagnation the Brotherhood expanded eastward..." Huh. Sounds just like the NCR. "The manpower at the disposal of President Kimball has him sending Rangers into parts of Mexico while also contesting Hoover Dam against Caesar's Legion." Except once Caesar's legion falls, Kimball can focus on recruiting while his troops continue to scout mexico. Even with an expansionist mindset that Kimball has, if he sends scouts to the East coast that doesn't mean that Vegas is left without defenses. The NCR's population is 700,000 before any recruiting happens. They have the numbers to hold their borders already and they've shown that even if they are stretched thin. They were having trouble holding Nevada largely because of the Legion trying to push west. New Vegas showed us that yeah the NCR is corruptible. It's implied that there's at least 1 member of each faction spying from inside the NCR. It's set up with the Legion spy. Legion spies won't be much to worry about as the legion will fall, and there will always be different groups vying for more power but nobody in the East can stand up to the NCR. If the East coast chapter of the brotherhood could provide reinforcements then maybe, but not unless. The only real threat that the NCR faces after New Vegas, if they were led by the Courier to claim Vegas, is their food and water shortage problems. Especially once the recruiting gets going and the population booms.

I always thought yes man served as a joke on players who picked him. Like all the times we look at people in power (even like Caesar and the Ncr) and say “how can they not see what they are doing is wrong, they are surrounded by yes men!” And yet here we find ourselves serving as the dictator for new Vegas with our only aide being a literal yes man. I think it should make the player question whether or not they really now everything and whether they always know the “objective” moral answer.

Personally, i feel as if the Independent Ending really depends on how you roleplayed as your Courier. if you played them Intelligent, Cunning, and Overall Caring? They're probably a decent choice for the Mojave. However, if you play your Courier as a Complete Moron, A Violent Psychopath, or a "Kill first, ask never" then yeah, I don't care how bad the other options are, they're still better than the Courier taking over. Going back to the good courier ending, by the time you hit the Level Cap after the DLC's, the Courier is basically *The* Badass. They are a master of speech and diplomacy, unparalleled in their weapon skills, a beast when it comes to melee and unarmed combat, hyper intelligent and capable of understanding literal rocket science, and if they've finished the DLC's, is a Cyborg. and if this ain't enough for you, his companions offer the Courier literal nation building skills. Cass Can help set up trade routes and caravans in the Mojave. Boone can help set up an Army. Arcade can help set up hospitals and medical stations. Veronica (Depending on the ending) Could either keep an eye on the Brotherhood or help you figure out Big MT Technology. Raul can help set up a Militia. My point is, the Slides may showcase the immediate aftermath, but they dont show everything

1) Depending on your play through, the courier has trained the Misfits, and negotiated peace with the Boomers, the Kahns, the Kings, and the BOS. With that level of negotiating skill and experience, he has all the qualities needed of a good, practical politician. He even has some practical experience in policy, in determining best solutions to the various conflicts he has encountered. Beyond that he is reliant on technical advise, but he can get that from the Followers of the Apocalypse, potentially the BOS and from Yes Man. Therefore it is simply false to claim he does not have the relevant experience necessary to be a successful nation builder. Whether he is or not, assuming no Yes Man revolt, depends on his willingness to share power and to establish a more formal relationship between New Vegas and the outlying communities. 2) It is a mistake to assume the NCR is permanently driven from the Mojave. A Courier who does not want to rule an independent New Vegas might go the Yes Man route simply so that he can negotiate the Mojave joining the NCR on his terms rather than theirs - thereby giving the residents of the Mojave more say in how that happens, and also greater representation within the NCR government. 3) I don't think the anarchy mentioned in the independent New Vegas ending is significant. Any regime change from an effective dictatorship (under House) will result in some short term chaos. It does not mean that the chaos persists in the long term. 4) The NCR in the New Vegas game has become corrupt and moribund. Independence is clearly superior to becoming a fringe colony with an essential resource under military control to that regime. Also much better than the permanent dictatorship of House, or the Legion. In fact, potentially the New Vegas set back would be good also for the NCR, leading to a major political shakeup and potentially new measures to end corruption.

It has laws, taxation, legally recognized citizens, a system of government, standing military, working class, infrastructure, research and development, healthcare, industry, agriculture, standard currency, wages/standards of living.The NCR is working on a scale unmatched by anyone else but the Legion. The reason I chose the Yes Man ending was because I trusted Vegas in my own hands more so then any others. The Legion may have law and order within their borders but their methods are too cruel and brutal. The NCR is a corrupt imperialist state that has expanded to rapidly. It already fails to protect its own territories but still taxes it's citizens into the ground. Mr. House is probably the best of the three but he is so removed from the average citizen of the Mojave that he can no longer relate to them. Instead he chases after an ideal of surpassing pre war america while the average citizen barely has the most basic needs cared for. So I chose myself. My courier was an idealist but he could relate to the citizens of the Mojave. He distributed power from helios to the citizens of the entire Mojave. He developed political alliances with a handful of regional powers with diverse backgrounds. He quelled prison breaks and saved entire settlements. And he was the guardian of Big MT, which contains the most advanced pre war technology and scientific databases. With the technologies of Big Mountain he could revitalize irrigation systems, providing food to the Mojave. He would establish public work projects to restore and revitalize Freeside, broadening it's boarders and developing more infastructure. And security would be covered by securitron MK2s paired with local militias trained at each settlement in the region. Possibly even robo scorpions to bolster those numbers. And the only major rival powers were both severely crippled by the events of the game. Life looks good for the Mojave.

The problem with the independet ending is that your empire only lives as long as the Courier does, even if the Courier lives a lot longer to to cybernetics. Your allies won't also live on forever. Mr. House however has the potentiall to guide the strip to prosperity. While his rule my be held through force, so does every other faction. In addition the Courier could function as a deplomatic bridge between the people of the Mojave and House. My point is that the independet ending, may sound good on paper, is however doomed to fail. You would be like any other settlement, starting with one great man and ending with the greed and ambition of another.

@@PSYMEDIC I mean if we hold Mr House to the standard that he doesn’t feel emotion at human loss anymore; then the same case can be said of the Courier once they choose to become the ‘leader’ of Vegas. They’re all humans that can make mistakes or lose sight of their morals and values. If a 10 Intelligence Courier wanted to keep the Mojave safe and independent from raiders and all the other factions, they would try to work with Mr House who’s also a smart though highly egocentric man. Realistically it’s pretty stupid that the smartest individuals alive wouldn’t start arguing about their views and challenge each other’s perspectives. Alone they can become self centered and unable to keep everything working optimally or at all. Together they can discuss and bring more ideas to the table. It’s really convenient and idealistic that a good karma Courier can just make everything better simply because he wants to and because Yes Man only answers to him after upgrading himself ALL ON HIS OWN to serve only the Courier. All the ones that support the Independence ending straight up want to makes themselves become the next Mr House and don’t find anything wrong with it at all. The Courier shouldn’t be Jesus reincarnated who kills some people because they’re ‘bad’ and then helps anyone who needs it out of his own selflessness. It’s very jaded to think he can do better than House when he’s practically taken over his entire operation, army and overall logistical plans. What happens when those plans end and the Couriers is all on his own?

The best ending so far is Mr. House takeover. He can be trusted because it says in the ending that he kept his word to the Courier and gave him/her everything they ever wanted for their service to him when they could've easily just killed The Courier after the securitrons were upgraded to full capacity since he didn't require further help but he still kept the end of his bargain nontheless. Take into account the fact that Mr. House is arguably the smartest character in the franchise (Previously that was the Master but he died) and isn't some tyranical sociopath looking to destroy his enemies and control the world with no regard for humanity. His goal is literally to advance humanity to the next stage of civilization and end the apocalypse. Not without sacrifices mind you, but sacrifices deemed necessary for everyone's future, not just his. He would've taken over the Brotherhood bunker otherwise, not destroy it. Also he would've killed the 3 tribes with the securitrons and completely taken control of the Strip but he choose to bring them civilization. Also The NCR and The Legion are as trustworthy as literal a high-on-jet psychotic fiend. The NCR only aims for territory and control over said territory, they care nothing for the population or conflicts if they don't profit off of it. In short, if you don't benefit the NCR, you are nothing to them. Dialogues with NCR troops when you have 0 reputation prove this. I don't think I have to say why the Legion is the worst choice, especially if Lanius takes over if Caesar dies. Caesar's Legion is a peaceful organization who advocates for women and trans rights compared to what Lanius will do with the Legion. The Independent ending is basically doomed to fail, unless The Courier intentionally undergoes ghoulification, integrates himself into the mainframe like Mr. House did or literally encases his brain and becomes the mainframe of Lucky 38. Eitherway, this would be the best ending if the Courier could live for hundreds of years or even more.

A government of any kind can never achieve that much. Although they were all wiped out by outside forces, nobody on the inside of any of the most notable anarchist revolutions ever attempted to seize power, mainly because everyone was just as powerful and free as the next person.

@@Graffels the success you give examples of lasted roughly 3 years, excluding the French commune which lasted well under 4 months. I chose Yes Man because it was best for my character. He's a cowboy mercenary who hates big government, but sees the upsides of it. He believes the NCR, while good for bigger, stronger settlements, would destroy any small settlement with their taxes and bureaucracy, allowing for small towns to not be able to govern themselves. His moral compass and views neglect him from choosing the Legion, not to mention their glaring flaws of false honor and lack of plan after hoover dam. Despite his history with Mr. House, he hates tyranny with a passion and sees Yes Man as a way to bring lawful freedom across the wasteland. His companions assist him in running New Vegas, and instead of taxes or giving the NCR water and electricity at a ludicrous price, he continues wandering as a bounty hunter, often helping Yes Man and New Vegas where ever he is.

i disagree with a few things 1. You say there are some things that are set in stone for the Courier's character (which I'm not sure I one hundred percent agree with that either, but that's another discussion), like how he's been to the Divide, Vault City, etc. but then say that the Courier has no experience in government. While I admit it's probably unlikely, depending on how you're playing your character, you can't really say that for sure. Someone could be playing as a the child of an NCR senator, or someone who spent some time with the Followers of the Apocalypse and has previously read things on government. How much experience in government do you think Caesar had before he established the Legion? Granted, he is an autocrat, but the Legion does at the very least have a functioning hierarchy that Caesar was likely only able to develop and implement because of knowledge he had gotten while in the Followers of the Apocalypse. 2. While Yes Man has no "experience" in running a nation, he does have Mr. House's databank. House, who you say has had extensive experience, no doubt kept extensive research, theories, etc. on his plans to govern New Vegas that could likely be picked and chosen to be implemented to suit a more egalitarian need. 3. I will admit that House has a unique genius that could not be replaced by the Yes Man or the Courier, but ultimately any plans for securing the independence of New Vegas are once again kept in House's records. While the chances of colonising planets might be unlikely, I don't see a reason why Vegas itself couldn't be secured and independent. 4. During those slides, some might have missed it, but the main Yes Man ending slide (if you choose to get the Securitron army) says that order was achieved with "minimal loss of life". Some of the other slides seem to contradict this though, so it is a bit confusing and I guess there isn't a way to be totally sure. 5. Again, all of this about chaos and the lack of security on the roads comes down to the type of character you're playing as. If you play a selfish character, then yeah, there probably will be unguarded trade routes. But I can see a kinder and more determined character utilising the Securitrons, or recruiting a militia force (likely from Freeside and Westside, giving the worse off people there a job, pay, and food) to help patrols the roads and guard smaller settlements. Remember, it's a Securitron ARMY. We saw how big it was when we meet Oliver. I'm sure that once order is restored you'd only need about half of those boys to guard Vegas and Freeside and you'd be able to send the rest out to do some good. Also, the Brotherhood's presence on the roads mentioned in their slide could just be in the immediate aftermath of independence (as most of the slides seem to be describing to me). 6. Your points about Vegas never doing anything for Freeside/Westside once again comes down to the type of character you choose to play as. You could argue that the whole reason for making Vegas independent is so that the wealth of Vegas could be turned to doing good for the Mojave instead of making the families fatter and happier. 7. Who's to say that you can't become a totalitarian dictator? I don't remember anything that explicitly says an evil character *doesn't*. Though I do agree it doesn't make much sense to not be able to have Yes Man work for the NCR or Legion. 8. While I agree that the idea of a super AI in control of New Vegas is terrifying, that depends on what he means by "assertive". I just read your comment addressing some criticisms and you do note that one of the devs confirmed assertive is not as harmful as one initially is led to believe, and while I agree that an AI doing it of its own volition is concerning, Yes Man is still only doing it in the favour of the Courier. Yes Man hasn't really shown any sign of trying to take Vegas for himself (though I guess that could be a facade). sorry for the text wall i have too much time

You have inspired me to write my own long winded rebuttal to some of your points. 1. There's way too much variance to include ALL types of Couriers that can exist. Boiling it down to the canonical facts that we know about all Couriers is the only reliable way to asses the Courier's character. Caesar is both older than the Courier (Most likely) and practically a genius. That coupled with the fact that he didn't inherit an existing society makes his rise more probable. He had time to make mistakes and learn from them. The Courier doesn't have that luxury, every mistake affects a large community so they're all more impactful. 2 & 3. Having a plan is only half of any plan. Most of a plan efficacy comes from being able to dynamically react to new situations. The more complicated the plan the less wiggle room you have to adapt. That only becomes more difficult if the plan isn't your plan and that gets even MORE difficult when you're trying to work with a legitimate genius's plans. House's plans rely on House being the one to execute them because he's the only one nearly as intelligent as he is. 4. I'll give you this one. 5. This is probably my biggest criticism of your points. Being "kind" or "selfish" is irrelevant to the trade routes situation. Being selfish could be the perfect motivation to protect the roads because ultimately all the trade benefits New Vegas and as a result it benefits the Courier. The Securitrons Army is something I see a lot of people harp on. The fact is they are finite and expensive to manufacture. House didn't use them as an Army, he used them as a deterrent. There's a reason he waited until a pivotal conflict to even reveal that he has them. He knew that it would be much more effective to scare the NCR away from the damn and have THEM take over most of the work outside of Vegas proper. If you use them as a Mojave wide police force their numbers are gonna be whittled down by all kinds of enemies. The Brotherhood, Super Mutants, Organized Raiders, and not to mention any wander half as capable as the Courier his or herself could pose a serious drain on the Securitrons. This is not to mention the NCR who would be waiting in the wings for Vegas's robo army to weaken enough for them to roll back in and take control. One the subject of The Brotherhood specifically, the Strip is FULL of tech that they'd want to get their hands on and dangerous soldier robots patrolling the wastes would give them reason to try to put a stop to whatever's going on over there. 6. If the Courier decides to become a philanthropist out of the blue you risk alienating the Families. Ultimately they exist to make money for themselves and if they see you as interfering with that you become an enemy. If you alienate them then you have no revenue to maintain the Securitrons Army or help Freeside. It's unlikely that Vegas would have enough capital for all three of these concerns not to mention maintaining Vegas itself. 7. I'll give you this one too :) 8. Fallout robots have a tendency to be untrustworthy when left to their own devices for too long so I don't really trust Yes Man without someone else running things.

This is the problem about discussing Wild Card. While the immediate aftermath is chaos, beyond that, there's no real proof that your character couldn't do things like having the Securitron army patrol the Mojave, or annex and provide order to the surrounding towns, establish all those things you need to. It's a bit of a weakness of the game's ending system there, and since there's so much up in the air, it's a lot of open questions.

Mr. House really thought too much of himself, an endgame Courier can become superior to him in every single aspect. AND they might also be a humane and dedicated person, eager to ease the troubles and solve the problems of all the Mojave more or less civilised communities. Last but not the least, they can befriend various powerful factions and may be able to call in some favours from them to help establishing the Mojave as a true realm of freedom, with an intricate balance of power distributed among numerous communities and factions.

Sholah Verassa I understand your point but I have to disagree. Being inteligent, strong or skilled in combat doesn’t give anyond the most important aspect necessary for ruling Vegas: experience. House lived hundreds of years and create and empire of technology, the courier never came close. Also it doesn’t matter if the courier makes alliances if the factions would just hate each other. Just think, if the Boomers and Brotherhood pf Steel met, they would definitely fight each other and you could’t do anything about it, their nature is to be enemies. Also, the Great Kahns would also wage war against the BoS. Even more, withou the NCR, the Fiends and Powder Gangers would start to anyhilate all settlements except Vegas. There’s no way that a single inexperienced man and a robot would be able to control all this groups, if we don’t even consider the possibility of a major retaliation from the rest of the NCR army (which House himself said that would be more than enough to wipe out his Securitrons)

@@pedrorenault5335 while this is all true this also assume that the courier wouldn't wipe his enemies off the map. The Powder Gangers are weak and the Great Kahns are easy, even assuming you dont convince the Kahns to leave or dont have friendly relations with them the Kahns are also weak and don't really stand a chance against the Securitron army at your disposal. And if it comes between choosing the BOS and the Boomers it's an easy choice, the Boomers are far eaiser to control, are not ideologically opposed to you and they are signifigantly more powerful than the BOS. The only real headche are the Fiends and thats only because they pop up everywhere. Not to mention the courier in all probability has the Think Tank under their command which gives them access to the most advanced technology in the world only rivaled by the Institute which is on the other side of the country (and by this point in the timeline is probably a smoking crater). This also grants the courier the means to manufacture both Securitrons and Robo-Scorpions among other weapons of war like energy axes, robo dogs, and sonic guns. The courier may not be an experinced leader but their weilding enough firepower to make anyone either submit or be destroyed. The only true threats to an independent Vegas is the NCR (assuming they don't just go along with you taking charge) and even more so, the Legion who will be working to destablize your rule, although this assumes that Ceasear is still alive and the Legion is not being led by Lanius who is just a big dumb brute who would be slaughtered by a Securitron army, and even that assumes Lanius is still alive.

the biggest problem is that the ending slides for independent vegas don't really factor in your work to the extent that the others do, nor do they factor in the frankly incredibly influential dlcs. i can't in sound mind consider the ending slides for independent vegas to be an accurate representation of a courier who took the time to unite every damn tribe in the mojave, has broken the raiders, and would have the support of every major faction other than ncr and legion. to say nothing of how the idea that the courior would only have securitrons patrolling vegas is utterly absurd and then you have the big mt which gives the courier control over tech that makes robco look like a joke, along with possibly even a second army comprised of the robo scorpions, established trade relations with utah via honest hearts, have a well funded treasury via gold and the salvaged replicators from dead money, and the nukes to deter aggression from ncr and legion forces while you establish power and stabilize the region, along with plentiful electricity and water that isn't bottlenecked like it is under house, and a courier that very well could have a long history of assisting the ncr and would have a foot in the door when it comes to negotiating with the ncr on nonhostile terms also with the experience of being the mailman, the courier would have intimate knowledge of the trade routes and which need protection, safe routes to move troops, the routes that ncr troops would take etc, not to mention the process of uniting multiple tribes peacefully goes a lot further than the lack of stability caused by the house autocracy which requires top down absolute control from a man whom we know for a fact (and has admitted as much) to be fallible. to say nothing of how there is no logical reason why a good karma courier would only focus on vegas the way house does all this isn't even factoring in the fact that by the time of the second battle of hoover damn, the courier has amassed a practical cult of personality via helping towns and the coverage of mr new vegas, and the fact that the courier has several very capable comrades that can act as emissaries for him/her, many of which already have ties that would make it easier

@@Christopher-eq1rn i dont think they would have done it if Obsidian had the time, i think that they wanted to convey that there is no perfect choice, that they all have their own pros and cons, if they made a truly perfect ending for the game, everyone would choose it over the others. regardless THIS is how i play FNV, i am a good Courier who fights for freedom, as well as myself when i can reward myself for a job well done, but otherwise i try to help everyone, save for House, Big Sal, Nero, Marjorie, Mortimer and Benny, also Legion and the Fiends have to go while i convince the Khans to find glory in the northern plains of Montana. even though the game never acknowledges it, this is the perfect ending for me, Yes Man keeps all the Superpowers and Gangs in check, while everybody else learns to get along, or get blowed up.

I fundamentally disagree with the video in question altogether. The wasteland will always be dangerous, but for New Vegas to stand on its own without the influence of either the tax-happy NCR or the organized slavers of the Legion, the security upgrade has to happen. The Courier's ending implies that he/she teaches Yes Man how to not be Mr. House ("He/she ensured Mr. House's tyranny was broken...") so that Yes Man can be more benevolent long after the Courier is gone. Yes Man gave himself the assertion upgrade so that he can be a leader rather than the lackey as he was originally programmed to be. To say that the Mojave will only truly be safe if most of the factions present are dead seems rather...tyrannical. That line of thinking falls most similarly in line with the Legion than a truly independent Strip.

The creators have basically outright said that Yes Man's ending when he said he was going to be a little more assertive was not meant to say he'd begin ignoring the Courier, but rather that the Courier would be the only one he'd listen to. The ending is basically to say "yes, you are in charge, and no, no one is going to take that by walking in and asking Yes Man to kill you off." Yes Man in essence exists solely to put the Courier in charge, and you can end things just as peacefully with the NCR as you can if you're working for House, who suggests his plans involve the NCR continuing to support him for at least the next five years. Bearing that in mind.... While you make a lot of good points in this, I feel that there are some things that we could debate! I mean that well of course, I *LOVE* this series, but first off is the fact that at its heart, New Vegas represents the Mojave as a whole. Yes, while you are fighting specifically for control over New Vegas, he who controls New Vegas controls the Mojave. Just as we can assume that eventually the NCR will get around to more competently patrolling the Mojave's roads, we can also assume that the Courier and Yes Man can do the same. Yes Man has access to lots of House's information, so while House's genius maybe gone, some of his ideas yet linger, which can serve as a good starting point. Even the NCR got its start small, and the Courier has access to all of House's ideas and resources, so with some time and practice, there is no reason to presume they couldn't improve. As for chaos? Sure, the Mojave might be chaotic for a short while, but that's natural given the shift in power. The very ending that says that chaos became uncertainty before becoming acceptance also says that any chaos in the streets of Freeside was put to an end quickly, with minimal loss of life. If we assume Freeside is, for the most part, everything that isn't the heart of New Vegas, then that would imply that part of the Securitron Army is defending even the slums and the poorer parts of Vegas, minimizing the crime rampant in those territories. Much of the chaos that unfolds is entirely reliant on you not cleaning up the mess beforehand (for example, if you kill the Fiend leaders off, no matter who's in charge they will be equally as little a threat in the end). The Followers' ending suggests more instability, which is definitely a downside, though I feel it's a tad contradictive considering that their ending contradicts the suggestion that if you upgrade the Securitron Army that they put immediate stops to such things. As for the rest of the Mojave? Well, lots of places do better, such as Goodsprings. It's one of the few ways you can help the Kings while also convincing the NCR to help people, which in turn results in NCR refugees finding relative safety in Freeside. In truth, the Yes Man ending seems to be a way for the player to decide how THEY want New Vegas to go on, with a caveat or two thrown in. Considering that you also have the option to become master of Big Mountain, which is responsible for most of the technology in the Sierra Madre as well as many of the mutants in the Mojave, your resources aren't just what House left behind, but also the whole of the Big MT's advanced technology research -- possibly with a team of scientists if you let the Think Tank live. (Incidentally, that might be an interesting video - the impact being master of Big Mt can have.)

Kind of a shame that you don't really have an option to recruit Yes Man as a companion (whether or not that has to do with New Vegas' development is debatable), as it probably would've had more variety in the "non-humanoid" section. Heck, I could've imagined Yes Man having a perk similar to "terrifying presence", that gave you new dialogue/persuasion options with NPCs. Probably call it something like "friendly neighbour" or something.

I feel like to get that ending cinematic you skipped several important faction missions. To have peace you have to cripple the fiends by killing their 4 leaders, you stop the Gomorrah plot, neutralize the White Gloves and kill Benny. The Khans have to be dealt with forcibly, the Boomers will keep to themselves, make up your mind on BoS after Hoover Dam they could be dealt with as they're still cooped up in the bunker. Raiders will be an issue no matter who rules New Vegas. You have several followers who you can send to regions to help keep the population in line as you rebuild your forces.

What would you rather have? The NCR could govern the Mojave, yes, but they bring with them the problems of bureaucracy and corruption that lead the old world to war in the first place. The Legion would enslave and burn the Mojave, just as it's done for hundreds of miles around. And House could care less about the struggle of the common man, he just wants to sit atop his hotel and rule his city. The only other option would be to do nothing, to leave the NCR and Legion in a stalemate until House bleeds the NCR of enough resources for the Legion to win. The Courier, in a good playthrough, has been everywhere and seen the problems and solutions of the Mojave firsthand. I can't think of another figure in the wasteland that would be more qualified to lead. Yes, Yes Man is a wild card in this scenario, but in the society of the wasteland, rulers who perform poorly are usually removed. The Securitron army would make it more difficult to remove Yes Man, but not impossible. After all, we killed Caesar, and he had an army larger than any we could ever muster. No king rules forever.

With that said I think it would have been immensely more clever and interesting to leave it ambiguous at the ending as to whether or not Yes Man upgrades himself to be able to say no to the Courier. If Ulysses is to be believed, the Courier was not directly responsible for building the nation. The distinction is that the nation was built _because_ of the Courier's route through the Divide. You can think of it as the same reason why trade cities are built around ports and tend to end up pretty massive - a lot of trade flowing through an area brings settlers interested in making a living in the economic-rich area. It also brings those interested in government to organize the trade, take their slice of the pie, and, eventually, organize the people living in that area so that it can be more efficient as a city.

While I see why they did it to keep consistency with the other endings, I personally ignore most of the ending slides when siding with Yes Man. They talk about what happens which each ending, the only problem being that with the courier, there aren't any characters to base the ending off of. The courier has all the power so the ending depends on what your courier would do, which would be completely different for every single play through. If your character holds all the power, why do you have to have what they do dictated to you? For an example, one of your points is that without the NCR, there is no one to patrol the roads throughout the Mohave, with the additional hundreds if not thousands of securitrons from the vault (as well as they heavily hinted possibility of building more), is there a reason the courier couldn't just order Yes Man to set up securitron patrols along major roadways, similar to how they patrol the strip?

the first problem with securitrons is that they are hard as shit to make, and there isnt pre-war factories that could make more securitrons once they are destroyed. house just turned them on because the mojave was reaching a great war, where almost every faction would side with the big ones and try to conquer something, and he needed a strong enough army to keep vegas safe. also, when the courier dies, nobody can order around yes man. and he became more assertive on its own, the courier didnt tell him to do it. so he can think freely, at least some part of it, means that in some way, he can become fully independent, and then he is basically an skynet.

@John Johnson Lonesome Road was a bit emotional for me. I blame the postpartum. Traveling all the way, putting the pieces together, realizing that *we* did this! Wishing someone would make a mod for New Vegas where we, as the Courier, go "No, thanks. I'll take the next one." Walks out... and the screen goes black. Then ending slides showing a pre-denoted Hopeville and the such. *Goes sappy*

Oxhorn’s argument here is based upon just a ton of false premises. In an ending to an RPG where your own written character is the ruler, the future of your nation can be whatever you desire. There’s no reason to assume the courier has never held a leadership position in the past. There’s no reason to assume that Yes Man will betray the courier. There’s no reason to even assume that the courier will die in the future; s/he has Mr. House’s technology. The Yes Man Ending is just House’s ending, but better, if you’ve written your character to be a better and more moral leader than House. The ending slides that suggest anarchy are themselves nonsensical. There’s no reason for the Devs to assume the courier would be unable to build their own force of Mojave Rangers, for instance, to protect the Mojave. It may take time but it’s totally doable. The Independent Vegas ending’s results depends entirely on the courier. It can be good or bad.

Problem with this role play stance is if our courier was truly this master of diplomacy why of all the jobs they had before the events of new Vegas was a mail man? That doesn’t seem logical. Yes the courier becomes a lot of things in this RPG but they are obviously not an incredible leader.
@BubbleoniaRising
@BubbleoniaRising 4 жыл бұрын
@@mandrovasab4335 So all of the demonstrations of incredible leadership by the courier in the game itself are overshadowed by their former job title? That seems exactly backwards. Frankly, based on the subtext of Lonesome Road, I know my courier was a mailman in name only, and that was imply one of their "cover" jobs.

Ozzymandos Then why would the courier be well a courier if their political skills were of so high mastery. It’s weird how skills like that would go to waste doing something as simple as taking peoples Mail.

@Dylan Palmer "The ending slides that suggest anarchy are themselves nonsensical. There’s no reason for the Devs to assume"-- ...and yet the devs did write those in as the results within the canon if you choose to side with Yes Man. The only options of result available within canon decided by the devs are the ones programmed in. Anything else is lorebreaking. So, basically, if your courier would do something to contradict the ending, the devs are saying that your roleplaying is invalid. If they had wanted you to be able to have more choice in what happens after the game, they could've added more endings, or, even better, cut out most of the ending for the player to fill in the blanks. ...but they didn't, and, while there are still blanks to fill in for yourself, the devs have filled in plenty for you that you can't change (lorewise).

When I first played Fallout New Vegas I went with House. When I first met Yes Man the Idea of me controling New Vegas was very intriguing, but when I found out I had to kill Mr. House I couldnt bring myself to do it. His plans and mind are just to important to just throw away for the other factions.

So I can't decide if Mr. House or the NCR is better for the Mohave in the long run. The NCR isn't great NOW, but once they have a foothold and no Legion, BoS, or House to contend with, they can start to build infrastructure, they can start to protect the settlements and streets of the Mohave, and start to clean up New Vegas itself. But this will take time, and there is a very negative view of the NCR in the Mohave. Yes they have fairly strict rules, but the NCR really is trying to do what's best and bring civilization back into a wild world. Mr. House has a plan, an army, and the experience to, more or less immediately, make an impact on the Mohave. Question is, how will he rule? He strikes me as a totalitarian leader, a dictator, whom you cannot argue with or question. You are with him or against him. There's little to no freedom there, unlike the NCR which is a democracy. And a democracy is, by and large, the best for human rights. Or a democratic republic. But totalitarianism is ultimately bad, and we face the same question as with a legion led Mohave: What happens if Mr. House dies? What becomes of New Vegas then? I'm leaning NCR, but they are far from perfect and spread too thin. Their ability to nurture a prospectus Mohave depends on their halting their spread, and focusing instead on solidifying the territories they already control. That's my opinion on the various NV endings.

Shawn Wolf, your reasoning as to why you chose NCR for New Vegas mirrors mine in many ways. I recognise that the NCR aren't doing so well in the Mojave mostly because they've spread themselves too thin. The Mojave citizens aren't getting the "true experience" of being a full NCR citizen that the people in the heartlands do. The NCR is also struggling because of the immense pressure House (via the treaty he strong-armed them into signing) and the Legion are placing upon them in an area where they're already stretched thin. I think once Mr House is gone and they have a firm, solid grip on New Vegas with the Legion also gone, the NCR will be able to spread their troops across the Mojave more evenly and start to improve the lives of most people living there. As bad as things were, they were the only faction who had refugee camps and at least tried to protect the refugees and patrol the roads. The Legion didn't-they just took slaves. And the sharp contrast between the Strip and Freeside told me how far Mr House's 'care' extends. If you don't have money the casinos can suck out of your wallet, then he has less than no use for you. And the Independant Ending? Even if I were to write my way around the anarchy as to what comes later, my Courier would only want the exact same goals for the people of the Mojave as the NCR. No point making an independant but weak nation state when the NCR already carries out her goals. Finally I'll conclude the already-long post by stating that yes, while the NCR has bad leaders/bad President now, its a democracy! That could and can change! Maybe the next President will be a bit nicer, and wiser, and... supported by the myriad of wonders from Big MT...

THe problem is that the NCR now has to deal with every shattered legion tribe on its doorstep, and all the other tribes that aren't being dealt with by the legion anymore or were made stronger by the NCR ie the 80's. And im not even confident theyll be able to clean up vegas all that well in the first place anyways

If you do the House ending with good karma it says the courier makes sure House keeps everything in check for generations to come. If he were to die I guess the Mojave will become a power vacuum but with each tribe doing its own thing based on how the courier interacted/did each quest. How he dies idk I assume he has fallback options Incase the life support goes out or black out happens like he said once happened. Don’t forget why the NCR came to the Mojave in the first place they need RESOURCES like the dam for water and electricity, they have a population that no doubt will keep growing. Which is why they won’t STOP expanding or keep searching for land to satisfy its massive citizen growth, and like you said is a recipe for disaster.

There are... a lot of assumptions and leaps of logic here. For one, most of what you offered as "canonical" things that the Courier has done are, to my recollection, optional. They *can* be things the Courier has done, *can* be places that the Courier has been, but if you don't select them as the dialogue choice, it's nebulous if they actually happened. For that matter, we also have absolutely no idea if the Courier has any experience running or building settlements- and neither does Oliver, hence his incredulous question. There are a couple other things, too- for one, Yes Man and the independent Vegas aren't just copying Mr House's plan, they're using his resources and knowledge to implement whatever the player's Courier decides is a better plan. Most of the "chaos" slides you showed are wholly optional- the only one that isn't is the one that explicitly states the chaos is temporary, as is to be expected from a shift in government. If you play an independent Vegas badly, then yes, it's a bad option- but that doesn't really prove your point. My biggest problem here is how much you leap your logic towards Yes-Man's upgrade. Is it not a far, far, far more reasonable and realistic assumption to say that Yes-Man simply upgraded himself to ensure that he won't just follow anyone's orders, while still remaining loyal to the Courier? There's also absolutely no indication that this is breaking his programming at all to my recollection- we only know that he has to do what other people tell him, not that he can *only* do what other people tell him. I personally believe Yes-Man to be the best option for the Mojave, still, but even if you don't- this is just a very, very poorly argued video. It's hardly as though any of the other factions even come *close* to being as good for the Mojave as Yes-Man, even with all these assumptions and leaps of logic.

The problem with the Yes Man ending and what I would focus on far more is that you need to build all of the institutions that you need for a government from scratch. The NCR love it or hate has made it this far for a reason. The slide show is inconsequential in my opinion because Yes Man is about letting you choose, which is ultimately the biggest problem with it. It gives the power to a guy who delivered packages for most of life and then most likely became a murder hobo. It's not a recipe for a good leader

"Most of the 'chaos' slides you showed are wholly optional- the only one that isn't is the one that explicitly states the chaos is temporary" both Boomer endings for Independent New Vegas: "With little law left in the wasteland, the Boomers continued to defend themselves against the prospectors and scavengers invading their territory." "Though the Wasteland became anarchic after Hoover Dam, the Boomers' display of power dissuaded fortune seekers from attempting to penetrate Nellis." Ahem. "the Wasteland became anarchic" "little law left" It's stated pretty plainly that, if you side with Yes Man, anarchic chaos is the canonical result of that action.

@@Cheerybelle You're somewhat missing the point- it's not that an Independent Vegas is absolutely perfect, it's that it's a vastly preferable alternative to the other options. Sure, the Boomers still shelling people is pretty bad, but it's being compared against two flavours of fascism and an unwanted predatory government. Y'know anarchism isn't bad, right? Whether it's your ideology or not, it isn't synonymous with evil or injustice.

@@latrodectahespara2728 I wasn't saying that your premise was incorrect. I was just correcting your statement that the only chaos/anarchy slide states that it was temporary-- Both Boomer endings for Independent Vegas mention chaos/anarchy without mention or implication of it being temporary, and the Boomer ending will always appear... Right? I'm pretty sure all factions important to the main story always have their ending shown. That was all.
