The ncr is far removed from being an actual republic. If it was, well, money would mean less. Republics can last and stand stable. Democracies fail hard. Ask athens. However, the Roman republic lasted as a more stable entity than AthenIan democracy. Regardless, votes don't ultimately matter if the law gets broken by the corrupt. At least with house, and the courier, you can know who the man in the tower is, not some faceless pencil pushers who don't care either. The only a few things are worse than a single tyrant, and that is multiple little ones. Which is how Germany was for centuries. So, at least the courier can reach peak levels of power by not being an ass. Only that play through yields the thoroughly most powerful courier possible. Then, by that same token the courier can have is "kingdom built by a traveling man", and a good one at that. To project your thoughts of what can go wrong is disingenuous to the character. Yes, we mold him, but blue clay is still blue clay until it's not. The courier who wields the most power, needs it the least. This falls in with a philosopher king, and as such reigns supreme, but accessible and just as human as everyone else.

We have mostly the same view conserning the factions of NV. I personally like house more since House IS immortal. He was in a coma was because of the lack of the platinum chip. With your help he can have his equipment and machinery running stable and efficiently. I don't think that benny could've killed house, hell, if the courier wasn't a god he/she probably couldn't have survived houses securitrons but that's outside the point. I think he'll be nice and cozy in his tube for a long time. The guy above also mentioned some great points which I totally agree upon. But I have to admit the ncr and house are both good options, I just think House is the better pick. BTW I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT YES MAN! Been telling about the same things for years but nobody took me seriously. Glad to see we see eye to eye on that one 👍.

It’s kind of ironic. The courier, the player, is a walking death machine. With the right skills a charismatic leader or a brilliant scientist. They’re capable of anything to the point where every faction has to use the courier, they are the axis on with the power struggle for the Mojave tilts. But the one thing they can not do is truly seize power for themself.

Reptilian Lizard Not really. Even without the implication that yes man plans on becoming more assertive and perhaps seizing control you never get to decide policy beyond which factions are allowed to live. The Mojave is shown to be lawless and chaotic in the independent ending implying you are either unwilling or unable to take control in any meaningful way.

@naggie63583 жыл бұрын
@@victuss1413 The thing is that communism isn't the same kind of philosophy as democracy, the more apt comparison here is American democracy vs communist Chinese authoratarianism (or authoritarian socialism if you want to be more exact). But even then, that misses the point. The Great War didn't start because of a war over philosophies or theories of economics or government, it started because of resource shortages with each side perpetuating anti-communist or anti-capitalist sentiment as a means to control their population. Thus House's point about the 'fate of democracies' is flawed from the get go, as the Great War grew from a war that started entirely due to resource shortages. Both America and China could have been authoritarian or democratic, the nukes still would have dropped. After all, it isn't like the American people voted to nuke China.

The NCR ending also lets you create alliances with pretty much every other faction in the mojave. You can solve a lot of problems through diplomacy. Not enough men to patrol the roads? The NCR and Brotherhood can make an alliance and the Brotherhood will patrol the roads. Freeside and West side living in poverty? The NCR, the Kings and The Followers of the Apocalypse can form an alliance to provide relief to the people. Gangs raiding everyone? You can banish the Great Khans to a reservation in the middle of nowhere after using them as canon fodder at Hoover Dam. The NCR ending is the best because you can make use of all the other factions and their strengths, and if played this way I think it's damn close to a perfect ending.

@@OVOgooner Of course, but diplomacy allows a nation to overcome many challenges that would otherwise be nearly impossible. World War 2 is a great example; the Nazis had outstanding military technology, highly skilled leadership, a highly motivated and well-organized soldiery, yet they tasted defeat in the end. Why? Because they were terrible diplomats; they made far too many enemies, they gained a reputation as treacherous warmongers, and almost every other world power grew to consider them not merely an inconvenience but an existential threat in time. Other nations, despite having far inferior militaries in many respects, triumphed in the end because they had the capacity to make and keep powerful friends.

I think that the point of this conversation is to point out all the flaws of governments that are voted in by the people. There is a flaw to Oxhorn's logic in this video, and that is democracy doesn't protect people from the government, but the ideals behind one does. Rome had plenty of ideals of strong aristocracy protecting the people at the bottom; the enlightened monarchs of Europe began to grant basic freedoms like free speech based off the ideas of Thomas Hobbs. Oxhorn should have argued that the treatment of people inside and outside of the NCR by the NCR is the best out of the four options. The NCR is the only faction where you can negotiate with their opponents: the Kings, the Great Khans, and the Brotherhood of Steel. They don't care if the Khans leave or the Kings are willing to work with NCR or the Brotherhood is willing to help. They are surprised but accept it. Freedom to a much larger extent than the other factions is still important to the NCR.

The NCR could really do with their own minutemen or similar equivalent to act as law enforcement/monster hunters. I have taken my time studying the DLC's I've been to so far and crumpling down my experience into the understanding of my details- the characters current opinions on the factions at hand. Elijah, as crazy as he is, wants the NCR gone because of the Helios One incident. Joshua, while a former legate in Caesar's Legion, denounces his former group, Mr. House, and also points out the trouble in the NCR, regardless of his standing. I didn't choose NCR because I looked to history. Honest harts- The Sorrows had little to no say in what they will do with their home, someone else did just because they were in a higher position. Dead Money- Sinclair didn't build the casino out of love there was another motive and he kept the money going in one direction- Him self. How can an economy grow if that is happening with the NCR taking over New Vegas with all the money it makes, just going back into it's self. Old world blues- Just like the Think tank the NCR don't see another world, another nation out side of their own just more land for them to take and experiment with until they are happy with the results. Lonesome road- Is an answer in it's self one person can make or brake a nation the more NCR expands the more that will suffer when the Two Headed bears hunting grounds are cut off, starving it across it's land.

That really hit me. That's a good perspective on the NCR. They try to take more than what they could handle, similar to the Legion. How can they stabilize New Vegas if they cant even handle their own problems? Everybody makes mistakes but it seems the NCR doesnt want to fix their own. Legion is not a good choice and I dont even think the Courier can run the Mojave with Yes Man. Mr. House seems to be the best option out of all. He has a realistic plan.

Bleachman what people don't understand is that the Yes Man ending isn't a "Yes Man and Courier rule the Mojave." It's instead a situation where the independent factions control themselves and make decisions for their own people. That's why the Yes Man ending is the best for towns like Goodsprings, because the town of goodsprings and the people living there make their own laws. The Yes Man ending isn't a "Courier and Yes Man govern the Mojave" ending, it's an ending where the boomers, Goodsprings, the Kings, The Khans, Jacobstown, and Primm decide how they deal with problems without facing taxes or Autocrats

I like the NCR, and I technically support them. But, it's for that reason that I believe they shouldn't have the Mojave. Their current leadership is weak and corrupt. Their economic and military infrastructure spread thin. They need to taste defeat, gain some introspection into their problems, and then go to work fixing them. Tough love, so to speak. Giving them the Mojave will only make their current problems worse. House is a genius. He's typically 2 steps ahead of every other faction leader in terms of planning, and his harnessing of the NCR's wealth despite their overwhelming military presence says a lot to his capability. Sure, he may overlook they little guy. But thats OUR job. We can be the one's taking care of them while House works on the bigger picture. His good karma ending even states that he's proud to have a lieutenant with a strong moral compass. Kimball and Oliver also need to be ousted, and Mr. Houses plan involves that as well. Play your cards right and get Chief Hanlon in on that, he starts to rise in the NCR's political scene (someone I'd actually trust in that roll) Also, his software only failed due to not being the most upgraded version (the one in the platinum chip) and the fact he was fighting off a nuclear barrage.

IDK if you read comments, but I feel like it might change your opinion with one line in the house ending. "Mr. House afforded him/her every luxury at his disposal in the Lucky 38, out of gratitude - and a quiet sense of pride for his choice in lieutenants" Given that he somewhat strangely chooses to trust only one human being and gives his absolute trust to him, I think it's not hard to assume that Mr. House planned to make the courier his successor when the time comes. IMO, it poses all the benefits of Mr. House's endings alongside the Yes Man ending, ironing out faults in both. Mr. House's mortality becomes far less of an issue, and the Couriers' inexperience could be remedied by closely working with House. IDK, that alone made me choose house over NCR. Once he's kicked the bucket and established security on the strip, it's in the hands of a now more experienced, seasoned Courier (sans the unstable smiling robot.)

I find it super interesting that the courier's intervention is literally the key to the fate of Mojave. Without them, there's a really weird rock-paper-scissors situation that doesn't have an obvious winner. - Benny stole the chip, yes, but House was aware of that, and is highly likely that with his resourcefulness he would thwart Benny's and Yes Man's plans to take over anyway. - On the other hand, without a trusted right-hand-man, House wouldn't be able to secure the securitron army underneath the Fort, nor secure the alliances with some of the Mojave's factions, making him much more vulnerable. It's also possible that he would suffer heavily from Omerta's coup. - NCR on its own doesn't stand a chance against the Legion. Sure, they are a proper nation with a standing army and a working economy, but in Mojave they are stretched thin. If the fight was on their turf, they would probably win. But their inefficiency combined with problematic logistics and supply lines in the east are a nightmare, and they have a serious morale problem. Legion is a war machine focused purely on wiping them out. - Buuut it's a war machine that's held together by one man with a tumor in his head. Every major character acknowledges that after Caesar's death, it's a matter of months before the legion falls apart, or turns back into warring factions. So without the courier, no one can really 'win" the Mojave.

ALL THE TIME" kind of anarchy, they mean anarchy like "live how you want, whatever", which is exactly what the Mojave was doing before hand but without two armies, fiends and whatever else the courier got rid of bearing down on them. That's literally it, like the Courier patched it, Mojave 2.0. As for Yes Man's supposed Skynet Complex, well, the part of the reason they leave the endings so vague and mysterious is that you get to decide how it goes. I for one like to think he's a little more human than that, for lack of better term anyway.

Mate, people are egoistic. If someone has a gun and is hungry, and no one keeps him from using the gun against other humans - take a guess what happens. Oh, people are righteous and just and will uphold laws because they dont want to be shot too? Hahahahahahahaha. This has been tried 1000 of times in human history and has NEVER, not even once, worked on even small sized societies. If a law is not being enforced or breaking it has no consequence, it is not a law, it is a recommendation. In the case of New Vegas, what keeps the strong or armed from abusing their power? What keeps a mercenary from going to lake mead, destroying the pumps and demanding toll everytime someone needs water and shooting those who refuse? What keeps robbers, thiefs, rapists, murders or bandits in check? Their own consciousness? NCR takes care of basic human needs, like safety, food and water. Often times not as best as they should, but they got at least a plan, logistics and infrastructure - something you dont have in the anarchist society. The courier, House and NCR changed a lot - check the area on the east of vegas. Farms, water, secured roads, travellers and merchants.

Honestly my thoughts on house/courier ending is that machiavelle made a point with his books the prince and his book on Rome. Dictator or autocrats are the best of a worst situation. They have the ability to get a nation through crisis with no strings but a republic is what a nation needs for stability after a crisis
@americancaesar6065 Жыл бұрын
In the old Roman Republic, before the Empire, the Republic had an emergency office called the 'Dictator', meaning To Dictate. This Dictator would essentially be given the power of the Senate for a period of time (IE a crisis or Year), and upon completion of their duty they would step down and return power to the Senate. And... it worked. For most of its early history Dictators would come and go to settle disputes, win wars and guide the nation when needed. A famous one was Cincinnatus who was elected Dictator several times and each time stepped down. Such an easily abused position that only saw corruption when it was reintroduced by Sulla... and Julius Caesar, the self-proclaimed Dictator Perpetua

@georgekerscher53555 жыл бұрын
House pretty much only cares about building up the immediate area of New Vegas outside of the tower, specifically the casinos. Plus if more travelers were to come, House and the people that either work for him or right outside of the city are going to be the main beneficiaries of that instead of the average person of the Mojave Wasteland. And if House really wanted to help out the region, he can easily use his vast wealth to help out the destitute/resource deprived towns and communities in the Mojave Wasteland. Or hell, he can easily just donate a couple thousand caps from his fortune to the FotA. They can do the difficult humanitarian work while he looks like a good guy for giving them a large donation.

@@kaldozin9757 Except that he's not directly responsible for making those towns, trading posts, and cities spring up on the trading routes in that scenario. So he doesn't need to be in charge for that to happen. Not to mention he wouldn't be assisting those fledgling towns, cities, or trading posts in building them up, let alone try and protect them with securitrons. House does not need to be in control of the casinos in order for them to make money, so the NCR/Legion/Courier can just take over and have the casinos be managed the same. In that case, the towns would still spring up since the casinos are still there and it would be difficult for an established power to build more casinos. I don't think that all corners of America are going to trek to a city, potentially on the other side of the continent, in a desert, in the middle of nowhere, to almost certainly lose all their money and become destitute. And keep in mind that the average wastelander is not going to possess a car or anything that can move fast to make the trek faster. While it is largely inefficient, it has to be said that they're fighting hard against four enemies at once: Powder gangers in the south, legion to the east, Great khans to the west and fiends to the north. Even against all of these foes, the NCR can still manage to push them back and protect it's borders. Once the biggest threat, the Legion, is gone the NCR can manage to annex the territories. Ironically, most people complain about taxes but taxes are useful to build structures, upgrade goods and services and yes, even the army can make uses of the taxes buy producing better foods and better equipment. House is the mojaves best hope for a prosporus future, hes the only one with a realistic plan for a future and a perfect mix of ceasars dicipline and security aswell as the NCRs functioning economy and somewhat stable goverments. And with the courier as his second in command (assuming hes a somewhat moral character) could act as a limiter and or checks and balances to houses "unlimited power" oh and the argument that hes a tyrant has merit BUT hes better than the two other tyrants the ncr (basicly acting like america in its days of "manifest destiny" with unchecked expansion and assimiliation and either through force or subterfuge result is the same,) Ceasar and his legion is very similar in this respect but atleast he is upfront about his desire to assimilate everything he can and crush the rest, problem is that both are failed states in the making (ceasar based his society on a warmongering slave state Basicly an army with a goverment, this has no longterm survivability as claimed by everyone in the game IT WILL NOT survive past ceasar) (The NCRs failing is that they are attempting to ressurect "old america" without proper hindsight "old america in this timeline was a failed state where their democracy was slowly replaced by a kind of public democracy/subverted by combined corporate and goverment elite agendas following a series of bad desicions throughout the fallout timeline, its like trying to do a puzzle with 25%,of the pieces missing, doomed to fail and repeat past mistakes. Traces of this. can ALREADY be seen when looking at the NCR power structure where crimson caravan company and the brahim barons can at times push their agenda regardless of public support. Hindsight is Essential for a new and functioning state not doomed to fail so far the only factions ive seen with that kind of knowlege also suffer from some other fundamental fault 1:the enclave (a militaristic state with a supremasist ideology) 2: The brotherhood ( a militaristic order with xenophobia and a religious facination with technology bordering on the creepy) 3:the institute ( a scientologistic faction so isolated that they have developed both xenophobia and a agressive tone with EVERYONE not in the institute aswell as havibg no limitations on their work such as human rights) The only one with both a good future plan benifit of hindsight and the recources to acheive his plans is house who has realized that needless expansion or killing everything not aligned with him is stupid and he will much rather initiate a deal that is both atleast somewhat benificient for both parties, that way he can acheive his plan without needlesly crating new enemies or obstacles for the future. He WILL create something lasting and in time when that future is realized there is always a possibility that his affect on this new state will be so prononced that it will start to function without his direct interference perhaps leading to somekind of hybrid democracy like iran (without the religios extremism)

I will always say House is the best choice because he wants technology to begin again and regain space travel. But if you chose the Legion; Ceasars plan is to create a new Rome and settle in New Vegas which is not roaming the country and conquering. The NCR will always want more and more; stretching to the next conquest and forcing there rule onto the next one. What's to say the next president wont stay in charge if voted out?
@DokturProfesur6 жыл бұрын
The thing I don't like is that by helping the NCR take Vegas you galvanize them, encouraging them to expand more and more. Empires that expand so thoughtlessly always crumble quickly, and it always starts at the frontier before rebellions and small invasions they can't fight pick them apart. I chose independent (albeit pro-NCR the whole ride) because NCR needs to stop its expansion and consolidate. By helping them you doom them to the fate of all empires.
@DapperCthulhu51826 жыл бұрын
How is House going to regain space travel? I see this point brought up so often, but it doesn't make sense. With what resources? What fuel? There's very little accessible oil or coal thanks to the Resource Wars. The only option would be the fusion reactor under Mass Fusion in the Commonwealth, but it's safe to say House doesn't know about that, so that can't be part of his plan. House is a businessman. He gives you a sales pitch, and he's a gambler. I don't believe for a second that House, or anyone for that matter, could regain space travel.

personally i think the yes man ending is entirely up for interperatation if you think your courier would make a bad leader then they probably would but as an RPG you can play a courier who has a hidden talent for things like that. you can also take the developer's word that yes man's assertiveness is simply to make sure only the courier can tell him what to do. i dont think its fair to do away with the whole ending because of your specific character. thats just my take though edit: you could also imagine that the courier would help out areas like primm, westside, novac etc. giving them securitron details and pointing traders coming to vegas to them

While most people in their right mind don't approve of imperialism, especially these days, every great modern nation had to do it to build their power and unite people. With the fallout universe the way it is. Having a bunch of city-states would cause war and suffering anyways, the post-apocalyptic world needs some law and order.

Imperialism is still being done even today though it is usually not called this or it’s justified in the name of freedom . In the Fallout world Imperials is necessary in order to unify the wasteland and make it more prosperous. If you look at the Legion you can see the tribes are now better off having been united as part of a larger empire because now the tribes aren’t fighting amongst themselves but instead united under the Legion which means there are less petty wars and greater progress . If it wasteland for the imperialism of the past we wouldn’t be where we are today . With countries like China and Canada existing .
@tj74834 жыл бұрын
J 19 Is it really necessary to unify the whole wasteland? The only people benefiting from it is the people receiving the taxes. And in a world like fallout, taxation shouldn’t exist (at least how at the moment). There’s no jobs that a normal “wastelander” can do other than simple odd jobs that random people might offer them. Unless they can start a successful business of some sort, the chances of a normal wastelander becoming rich are extremely low. I’d say it’s safe to assume that smaller “towns” like Westside put farming and collecting water before earning caps. So having the NCR force towns like Westside to give a large cut of the caps they make is far worse than an “anarchist” Yes Man ending.
@Valencetheshireman9274 жыл бұрын
@Pluribus Unum - It is necessary to reunify the wasteland because that way their would be less petty tribes fighting each other . ‘The only people benefitting from it is the people receiving the taxes ‘ those taxes are used to pay for the things NCR citizens need such as healthcare . I’m not sure where you think the taxes go because as a whole I believe they go back to the people who pay them through things like the army and healthcare. In a world like Fallout I believe taxation should still exist because taxes can be used to rebuild the wasteland and improve the lives of the citizenry . Caesars Legion doesn’t have taxes but they instead use slavery to pay for their army . All citizens who live under the Legion are protected and don’t have to deal with raiders but their is still slavery so whether taxation is necessary depends on the way you look at it because the Legion offers protection but nothing else at the expense of salves whereas the NCR offers things like healthcare for its citizens but little to no proper protection from raiders and their governments bureaucracy slows any decision making which makes it harder for the NCR to reform . The Yes man ending is probably worse than the NCR ending because the lawless means travellers are less safe ( Even by NCR standards ) and any farms that exist can easily be robbed so a comparison of NCR and Yes man is that you either get robbed legally ( Through taxes ) or illegally (by raiders).
@tj74834 жыл бұрын
J 19 The NCR primarily uses the taxes they receive to grow their army. When they grow their army they “annex” more towns. Like Oxhorn said in his “Why the NCR is a Bad Choice” video, the NCR has failed to provide its citizens before with the things they promised them. And, in my opinion, Yes Man isn’t complete anarchy. If it was, any form of government or law would’ve been driven off the Mojave as well (the Kings, for example). I believe that Yes Man would be the choice that would allow towns to create their own laws and government. And it’s clear from the NCR ending slides and random NPC talk that most of the Mojave isn’t fond of the NCR and their “annexation”. So if you’re for unifying the wasteland, I don’t know why you would chose the NCR.

I thought u would pick house tbh he's my choice The fact he has the idea to get people off of earth seems like a good idea to me given the state its in. And the fact that house can die eventually seems like a good thing to me means he can get humanity back on track faster through his autocratic ways then when he eventually dies Humanity can take charge of its own destiny again perhaps on another world. Maybe im crazy feel free to tear my argument apart tho lol
@jameslegrand8486 жыл бұрын
Lol your argument seems valid enough but if he lives then he'd most likely create a government in lithe style of a cult of personality like ceaser and when these type of people die or lose then everything falls apart. Paired with the fact that the NCR may be ineffective but they can always vote someone into to change their ways (good or bad) but I'm not sure house would step down if his public opinion goes down (and fear can only take you so far)
