I was happy the first time another vocalist on my church team said “do you know you’re going flat on that bridge?” while rehearsing for a song I was leading. It felt like I had reached a level of skill to where they now respected me enough to point that out. If they thought it worthwhile to say it, that meant they believed I could fix it.

Yes, I totally agree. When someone points out a problem it means they think you can fix it! And sure enough you will become a better singer when you do!

I've too many probs. After cancer treatment x 3 & severe Dyslexia, auditory & and short-term memory. constant nasal drip, drugs caused asthma now dry mouth & tmj. I love to sing but dont remember words. Im shy, and we as a family did the operatics shows. My daughters have lovely voice like their dad. I wish i could join in on family gatherings.

Its always useful to record yourself every now and then its suprising how it can help show you were you can improve ?

Yes, I totally agree. I really encourage my clients to record themselves. It’s hard because we can be so very hard on ourselves. Many of my clients say they don’t like to hear themselves recorded, but if we can be kind and listen for the good things we are doing and have patience with where we are growing, it can be such a great learning tool!

Ive seen people at karaoke. Who start out awfully crude and rough but id notice with the songs they repeat a lot theyre like a different vocslist. They do real good. My buddy ekvis hes so into the imoressionism and the choreography of elvis he doesnt work on the song long enough to master the pitches. Sometimes.

I think you are right with intention and repetition you can really change your voice!

It also helps if you know what keys for your range. Sometimes I have to lower a song to fit my range. Thank you.

Absolutely! If the melody is just too high or too low for your voice tuning is going to be an issue! I agree- change that key to a comfortable spot. Thank you!

I'm a performer/teacher. The sooner a child/person can start singing the better. Some singers are gifted, some are not, but with patience and persistence, everyone can get better. Make sure you can hear your own voice relative to the instrument or music you want to be in tune with. Ear cupping works good for this. Number one rule, smile and enjoy yourself 💖

I had surgery and they collapsed my lung .. afterwards I really have issues with holding the note and staying on tune

How did you keep the steadiness with 4 beats, without gasping for air in that middle register?

Hey! That’s a breath support issue. You should be able to hold that note for a lot longer actually! It’s actually about exhalation . Not really so much about how much you take in although you want to get a good breath, it’s more about not letting all the air out at the beginning of your phrase, or not letting air out with your tone and singing breathy. "Pitchy" isn't really singing sharp or flat. It's wavering in a way that isn't clearly one or the other, but out.

Here is the biggest problem with singing out of tune. We don’t know what notes sound like. I don’t know what an A sounds like. I don’t know what a C or a D sounds like. If someone could actually teach us that. Or to make an app the would teach us with that, that would solve most peoples problems.

That is true. But no worries you don’t have to be able to identify a specific note or be able to name it to sing in-tune. That’s more like perfect pitch and very few people have that! It’s more like a matching game -just match the pitch that you hear. You don’t have know its name.

I sing the same notes for every song. But when i do vocal warm ups my coach tells me im on key. But my recordings are off key.

Assuming you're talking about singing on a mic into a DAW or tape machine, it's possible your headphone mix isn't good. Not enough vocal in the mix, too much, too much reverb, or too much overall volume can interfere with pitch. Experiment a bit, try one ear of the headphones off.

Hi, being an Italian I think it's easier to sing in english, shorter words Can I be in tune if I sing a cappella and out of key when i have to sing according to the key on an instrument? such as guitar, piano.....

Thank you for your question. I think singing with accompaniment is crucial to singing in tune. Unfortunately, we can be fooled into thinking we are in tune when we are singing a capella. We need to hear those pitches in the accompaniment so that we can match them. We must listen to the music and our voice together so that we can train our “ears” to hear the pitch and then match it. I’m sorry there ain’t no fixing my singing … although I’ve written all the songs for my bands for the last 20 years …. I can sing good in G as long as I stay in g … and if you can fix me I would like to try ..just so my demos sound better ..cause I’m not tone death I can pick out most cover songs quickly when I want to learn one without reading the tabs

I’ve had some hard cases. If you’re that musical, it would be really hard for me to believe that I couldn’t help you sing better and sing in tune! I think you could do it !

Even good singers have preferred keys, or struggle certain ones.
