She told her it would take 2 to 3 sessions to go blonde and explained that her hair would look brassy after the 1st but they'd fix it on the 2nd. A few years ago I went to a salon that took me from my very dark brown hair to WHITE in one go. I asked if it was safe/possible to go platinum since it was my first time (they said yes), they did not do a strand test, and I had to regrow all my chest-length hair from scratch due to awful breakage. Do your research and don't trust anyone that doesn't give you a proper consultation 💚

Oof yeah. My mum is a hairdresser and says new people always need a strand test and you never do more than one round of bleach or colour remover in a day and never trust anyone that tells you they can take your dark hair to platinum in one go. She's had to try and fix a lot of other peoples mistakes which in a couple of cases has included just cutting off the most damaged parts because they were too brittle to do anything else with. Oh she also says don't go swimming with freshly bleached hair. It will turn green from the chlorine.

My sister is a stylist. My natural color is a strawberry brownish, with natural highlights. It's absolutely beautiful, just not on me. I decided to go platinum. It took us 3 sessions to lighten and tone me to where I wanted to be. After the first session, my hair was still brown. I utterly hated it. The second time took me to blonde, but I still wasn't the icy silver i wanted. We toned it again, and it came out beautifully. Trust your stylist and trust the process

After 10+ years of dark ruby red Féria box dye layered onto my naturally ash blonde mid back length hair, he was able to get me to a gorgeous level 8-9 mushroom blonde with only 10 vol. My hair was so still so brassy towards the ends after lightening, I don’t know what kind of sorcery he did to get it so ashy in the toning process. The man is a magician.

I wish stylists were more "do it at your own risk" and not "it is impossible". I went from black box dye to platinum in 1 sitting, granted it took hours but the result was beautiful and I only had to trim like 3-5 CM which honestly needed to be cut even before the bleaching. If I had known it was possible, I would've done it sooner.

There was only one time where i was able to go from dark hair to platinum i was concerned for my hair the whole time because i heard my stylist say he used 50 volume developer. But it worked and my hair survived and we immediately slathered that beautiful blonde in different shades of blue. It came out AMAZING. THE best dye job i ever had. The blue stayed in my hair for literally 2 years and the only reason it went away was because i cut it all off

Actually thinking about it, i went platinum twice. Once by a professional stylist and the 2nd time accidentally when bleaching my hair at home because i was bored and covid was a thing so nobody was gonna see my hair anyway. I wanted it to come out yellow so i could coat it in green and get a brighter green color, but it came out WHITE BLONDE after only 30 minutes of processing with a shower cap on..... So i scrapped my green plans and went with blue again.

Madison Reed tends to be darker than other dyes in my experience. They label their level 6 browns as medium browns. Their color does lift evenly, though. I did some highlights over a level 5 color, and the results were nice. I think it is because they encourage you to use a gloss on the lengths instead of pulling permanent color through to your ends when you are doing root touchups. I am not a stylist, just a consumer.

@angellittle1571

Growth (roots) always lifts better, so if your hair is under a few inches, it takes a looot less to do it. You can see in this video where there's the space between the scalp and where she lifted didn't have anything applied, and the same if you watch any other lifting videos. You always have to do the lengths first and then hit the growth, because otherwise you'll have a super uneven lift that was stronger for the growth than the length. But it does also depend on your hair texture, if it's virgin or has been colored with box dye or professionally dyed, how healthy it is. It's chemistry and art, so *everything* matters 😂

I've tried. Hair doesn't want of this kind of progressive treatment. I have very thin hair. This is why it's always the best way to start bleaching your hair with highlights and slow pace. Take at least 5 sessions. Go easy on you hair. Trust me. I went from blonde to foxy orange/red back to blonde on long hair + I was swimming 3 times per week at that time. 😂 I had long hair and bleached hair take forever to dry. So this is why I decided to cut them short and color them with the shade of my natural hair. 😂 For some time, I was a test dummy to my hairdresser. Every time she dyed my hair differently. I even colored my hair purple for the purpose of singing in opereta. I was wearing elegant emerald green silk dress. I loved it. I trust her, she is such a good skilled hairdresser. virgin hair is much easier to lighten. i can get my hair from black box dye that has been used multiple times & overlapped everytime on my whole head to the lightest shade possible without any toning aka warm white with just 3 rounds of bleach

I just had my hair bleached yesterday after getting a straight perm, dying it blue, then purple, then red and using black box dye… it lifted lighter than the video and is a petty pink now! Surprising cause I use a flat iron daily and my hair is extremely fine but no damage

you could definitely go lighter if the ends are fine, 25 min processing time is not that long!!

I went in 3 sessions and got the results dyed ash grey looked good then had some yellowish hairs around so I dye those black and when I washed it it spilled on the ash hairs and somehow mixed into seconds and I lost my results. Got frustrated and did a 1 session to plan to lift lvl 9 straight and hair became rubbery and basically damaged and I don’t think there’s any comeback from this but will dye it again soon and will see If somehow I can salvage the hair and still get the color again. Btw it’s only small 2 portions off the sides.

I would have done 1-1 ratio for the extra strength and used a different lightener like flash lift with bonder inside but thats just my opinion, also leave it for the maxiumum time like 40 minutes not 25

I have naturally dark brown hair but color it a lot. I wanted to go platinum and when we did the first bleach my hair was mostly my natural color with a little bit of ginger at the tips from previous coloring. My hair tends to lighten very quickly so it only took two bleaches to get it to the color I needed. The toner we used didn’t work for crap so I ended up leaving purple shampoo on my hair for an hour and it turned out perfect! It was slightly light purple for the first couple washes but it was really pretty so I didn’t mind :)

Just went from black to silver white in 2 days. No breakage. Used purple instead of the blue bleach powder with 20 volume. T18 wella toner, and the next day a cheap box of silver hair dye. Bam. Healthy hair and whiter than a Trump supporter. That last one was free.

I went platinum blonde with dark hair….im naturally very dark brown I had chemically straightened my hair not even a year before… and had a perm 2yrs before that…8hrs color correction sitting in a salon 😂my hair didn’t fall out and where I had done highlights previously was whiter than white…. And my hair didn’t all break off and fall out it was of course damaged but not holding on like a thread like youd think….. I got lucky…. One wrong move and I could have walked out bald lol 😂

I only had highlights before oh and sun in too many times to count (don’t judge me….) other than the perm and straightening though maybe some darker highlights a few times too but no all over haircolor…

Worked on me: I used 40 V developer with charcole 10x lightner, for an hour (not including putting it in), on black dyed hair (over dyed brown, over pink) and my hair was banana yellow In One Session, and felt very good. May not work for everyone, but I was so happy; my hair is thick and I thought it would be a disaster. It was even and super cute ♡

I was able to go platinum in one day but I already had previous lightening. Balayage and highlights. Then I let my hair grow out for about 6 months and did my own retouch. It came out platinum and I just had to even out the ends. All in one session, but kinda not really. Blonde takes time and patience to get the right shade

Gotta say, yes, it takes more than one time and yes, it's probably going to look pretty ugly in the meantime. Choosing from healthy hair but ugly hair for like a week or two or the colour you want that gets it damaged for years/decades/life, I'm sure as hell choosing the first one.

How does it work for Virgin dark brown hair trying to go blonde??? I've never colored my hair or bleached it before. I just shampoo and condition it. I get a treatment and a trim at Ulta like once a year to freshen it up.
