Funny how this song foreshadows why it messed with his “peace”/he apologized to Kendrick the first verse saying he doesn’t wanna battle if it isn’t legit. He hated how he let people push him into making the track when he didn’t really want to because he didn’t really feel too strongly about Kendrick’s initial diss.

This song is a masterpiece in my opinion. I, PERSONALLY, would rank it top 10 songs ever. Not only I love the message, the lyrics, the cadence, the beat and everything about it, but it s also the song that made me a J Cole fan, and I can see I m not the only one so rly this fact alone makes it a great song.

Holy shit. I think there’s a double for “The real ones been dying, the fake ones are lit.” When Christmas time comes, the real Christmas trees will be dying while the fake ones will have Christmas lights on them, “lit.”
@captaintoet19832 жыл бұрын
Might be, but my family has always bought a real 'christmas' tree and they had lights in it too. The theme of Christmas defenitly fits with the middle child/family thing but the whole theme of the song is how he learned from the ogs. And giving the young ones, what the ogs gave him.
@originalyoutubername51882 жыл бұрын
@@captaintoet1983 right, but I also think it fits with the Christmas scheme he had going on, “making a list, checking it twice.”
@captaintoet19832 жыл бұрын
@@originalyoutubername5188 Oh god, totally forgot it and was only looking at what you typed. Makes more sense that way. Making a list to give presents and checking it twice to make sure everybody is on it just as he has a list with all the artists he wants to collaborate.

Hey Knox great reactions and breakdowns like always. Hey man I just got to tell you, ever since you did a couple of Spanish reactions you really impressed me. I’m not asking you to do a reaction of this, but please listen to “El B - Mi Filosofía”. I know you are a big fan of rap and trust me this old Spanish rap song will not disappoint you as a rapper once you break it down. This Cuban guy is a genius improvising and writing. He even won red bull battles in Cuba but Castro never let him compete internationally because a-lot of his songs talked about communism and how bad the Castro was for Cuba.

Hey Knox, you crafty little music aficionado! I noticed a tiny mistake in your otherwise impressive knowledge of hip-hop lyrics. You forgot to mention the real deal behind J. Cole's line, "Just left the lab with young 21 Savage." When J. Cole says "lab," he isn't referring to a science lab where they make potions and spells. No, no, no. He's talking about a recording studio where he and 21 Savage cooked up their hit song "A Lot." And let me tell you, that song samples East of Underground's "I Love You," which covers The Fuzz's "I Love You for All Seasons." So, there you have it - a little hip-hop lesson to keep your lyrical knowledge sharp!

You also missed the "I'm in my bag, that's hard as it gets, I won't snort a line, but I might take a sip" "a bag" in the hook has multiple meanings of, being in the zone, getting cash, but playing off the anti drug scheme "a bag" is a reference to any hard drug that you have on you. So that's where he says "I'm in my bag" saying he's in the zone or in his prime and making money, but won't endulge in the toxic culture
