I've essentially had the same style since I was in high school, it's just matured over the years. I'm just a basic guy. I wear the basics and nothing more. I don't like accessories, I don't really like layering, and I'm not really into graphics or patterns anymore. After losing a bunch of weight a couple years ago and now replacing all of my clothes that are too big or too old, it's all about getting the right fit, which is harder than one would think. Plus I pretty much only buy second hand at this point, fast fashion is a last resort. XD

I've noticed a lot of insta influencers are very trendy, and you could just tell a lot of their clothes are made of polyester. If they took the time to just thrift an older high-quality pair of jeans or other stable item it would instantly give them more "style". (At least mix-matching fast-fashion if need be with timeless pieces). Not the mention the uniqueness of clothing items found with thrifting could elevate someone's style instantly. Basically lots of people are giving me taobao and shein when really DIY and slow, meticulous searching is the key. It's also a thing to just even have a source of inspiration really. What references are you making specifically rather than what are you taking from what's popular on instagram? At least take inspiration from different eras, music/art, and philosophies of life and be genuine. It can start from the media you consume. Maybe looking at physical media (magazines) and go from there. Everyone is different and unique and you have the power to express it.
@ericchanningbrewer9759 күн бұрын
Agreed! When you're in a rush to present yourself as stylish, you're not really enjoying the process of getting to be stylish because it takes too much time. I think the hunting for quality materials and designs requires a level of interest in clothing that has to supercede an interest in becoming quickly stylish. The hunt and the development of true passion for clothing and how it works takes more time than most wanna-be-stylish people will ever invest. As a result, all those fast fashion pieces combined just create an "alright look" at best and only when observed by people who don't know any better. Taking a fast fasion short cut delivers young people to the same place with everyone else who took the same route. The result is an easily accesible trend that ages quickly because it is doomed to become boring no matter the superior influences that inspired it.

I as a music producer like the post-process references, because I feel, that I am the only one who knows all the plugins on screen an what hearts you cut off properly. Also, I think a lot of things you said about finding your style can be implemented in "finding your sound" or getting better at musicproduction.
