For anyone reading this, make sure to target the new models from XP-Pen or Huion. Pressure levels don't matter that much nowadays, its all on the IAF and how it handles the pressure. Their new models have vastly improve the pen tech over the years and reason why I cannot recommend these other super budget options like Boston, Parblo, Veiik and whatever

The problem more often than not is customers who continue to support companies who abuse based on their "name". As long as this continues, "big names" will refuse to lower their prices.

Yeah, but if the other brands are able to offer better products at lower prices, then the "big names" will lose out eventually : )

When ever the other brands start targeting the Pros, that when Wacom have to lower their prices. And I have a feeling that will happen within the near future. 😁

Samsung's S series tablets have been a game changer for me. The pens are Wacom tech and I can use the tablet as a pen display. Wacom has excellent performance, but I've had parts break on me due to design flaws. Wacom support gives you 2 options: (A) pay hundreds of dollars to fix it, or (B) pay hundreds of dollars to replace it. Felt like they didn't care because who else was there to run to years ago? But dealing with Samsung is much better than suffering through Wacom support. Samsung's stuff lasts for years so I've rarely contacted Samsung. And I'm not spending hundreds of dollars replacing defective parts. I do still love Wacom, but I'm no longer "in love" with Wacom.

That's awesome to hear. Honestly, I've heard great things about Samsung from multiple people now. I could see myself trying out one of their tablets eventually. also, " I do still love Wacom, but I'm no longer "in love" with Wacom." is such a great way to phrase that XD

Thanks for your info. The thing is, need to work with windows (Adobe Photoshop and animation) and few other window programs. Can Samsung help? Thanks

I'm not 100% sure, but I think any tablet will only be able to run the apps available from each tablet's app store, so you may not be able to run the full program like you can on your desktop. I hope that helps answer your question!@@cesarpaj

I started digital art in 2005 (I know, I'm a dinosaur) and it was basically Wacom, Wacom or Wacom back in those days. I started on a Wacom Volito2 with an active size smaller than A6. I'm very envious of all the decent and affordable options available these days! Consumer level Wacom products in my opinion are overpriced compared to the competition, not just with Huion/XPPen, but also there's a range of options with Apple/Samsung/Microsoft (Surface). However, their pro line is actually for professionals and not just a naming gimmick. As an adult with disposable income, I have a Cintiq Pro 16 2021, it works great, I use the touch function and it's usable as long as the art programme has 'don't use tools with finger' toggle. I also have iPad Pro, Microsoft Surface and Samsung Tab S7+. Cintiq Pro is my favourite drawing device, then the Samsung with S-pen. I tried so hard to like the iPad Pro, but I utterly detest the Apple Pencil.

Thanks for the insight! I only got into digital art around 2017, so I’m still learning :) Yeah, I think the top of the line Wacom’s are still some of the best devices money can buy, no doubt about that. And I understand if you don’t like the Apple Pencil. I can’t use it unless I have a Wacom pen style grip on it, so I feel you there.

I've had a huion tablet for 6 years and while i love it, the difference in feel drawing on a more recent wacom at school was insane! i'm sure recent huion tablets are the same but it kind of sucks to use now that i know the difference :/ especially as they can be really pricy (around 500 at the time of purchase) so you can't replace them as the technology evolves
@studio_fudelio
@studio_fudelio 11 ай бұрын
thx for the comment :) Yeah, if the Huion is 6 years old, it may be a bit dated and I feel like they really upped their quality in the last 2-3 years so that might make a big difference. I understand it might be rough if you have a nicer Wacom to use at school, that can make it seem hard to go back to the older Huion. Even older Wacoms are hard to go back to and draw on, tbh. I'd still suggest taking a look at some of the newer models of Huion if you'd like to upgrade and still need to keep it cheap! The Kamvas 16 (2021) model still seems like a great option if you can't afford the 4k version, and is USB-C to USB-C with updated specs. They have the 22 inch one in the same model line for fairly cheap as well.

I will say that huion and XP pen both have reversed engineered the Wacoms. That helps make them cheaper as the learning curve has been a lot less steep and more affordable to innovate when Wacom already did it. Then position yourself in search results where people csn find the wacom and you’re there. I will say they the design of the displays are different. Like the xppen location of the power cable coming into it being positioned in a way it will get damaged. Also if brightness is high and has no fan how long with the parts hold? Will they fail in half the time of a wacom pro? I think you pay the premium for a wacom and I’ve seen a couple displays that are close to 10 years old and still work fine. I don’t know about the longevity of Huion and XPpen
@studio_fudelio
@studio_fudelio 11 ай бұрын
Fair points. I think Wacom quality is really good, so there is an argument that you're paying for "the premium quality" but I do think most modern displays from other companies hold up just as well or almost just as well. I've heard people complain about Wacom fans, overheating, and screen issues too, so I guess it just depends. In general, I would probably agree that Wacom still has the highest quality overall, though.

@@studio_fudelio fair points. One other thing that does drive the price up is the etched glass on the wacom pros. That makes them heavier and the costs skyrocket. Xppen uses a laminated display as well as many huion. Don’t know if they started to use etched glass too. Come to think of it, that may also be a reason for the fan being loud.
@studio_fudelio
@studio_fudelio 11 ай бұрын
@@brandondelgado7731 that's a good point. I think XP Pen still uses laminated displays if I remember correctly. It doesn't bother me, but I know that could be a big factor for some people.

@@brandondelgado7731 I have had seen some horror stories with the cintiqs over the years, its not all roses and rainbows. They often cheaped out on the actual screens themselves, while we were seeing better and brighter displays from the competition. That said, I think you are confused about what lamination is. Laminated displays are generally preferred as it reduces the gap between the glass and the lcd panel itself (by gluing one to the other). Etched glass is just the approach they use for the surface of the glass to give it texture. Wacom, XP Pen and Huion have laminated display options. You can find etched glass surface options with Huion and Wacom, while XP Pen still prefers textured film instead. Huion and I believe some lower end cintiqs have film over etched glass as well. Sometimes film preferred, since it can be removed or replaced if damaged, where as scratched glass is something you are stuck with. In short, just because something might cost more to manufacture (etched glass for example) might not make it a better choice. Additionally, its a lot less of an issue to replace a $400-500 XP Pen or Huion, than it is with a $2500-3000 display. Sometimes its nicer to keep upgrading after 2-4 years, than it is to stick with one expensive display for longer.

As a person who began drawing as a hobby and then learned digital drawing from zero with only youtube tutorials and a small and cheap pen tablet from huion, I've gotta say that what makes me don't like Wacom products the most is the way this brand treats it's costumers, they are like Apple or Adobe that think their customers are super rich or some kind of artistic elite and are not transparent at all. Today I use a xp pen deco lw and it rocks, it's smooth, sturdy, the battery is durable, the wireless/bluetooth mode doesn't feel laggy or delayed at all, and paid much less than if I bought a wacom with wireless/bluetooth feature. Also I think xp pen and huion are approaching their customers in a better way by offering a greater variety of products that meet the needs of different artists, they have something for everyone, from the small artist to the professional, from the hobbyist to the enthusiast, from the one with just one table to the one with an entire office, by doing that they remember their customers that art, digital or not, is and can be for everyone.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I totally agree. Honestly, that's why I wanted to make this video to try and show other artists that there really are great alternatives out there and brands like XP Pen who make more of an effort to give artists an opportunity to work digitally. They don't worry about being like Apple or Adobe, they know they can market to smaller independent artists, which is a win/win for us.

Wacom is definitely lagging behind. I had to give up my wacom cth intuos because of driver issues and consistent inconsistent lines. Customer support is next to useless in South Asian countries. Xp pen is marginally better but since I paid a lot for wacom, its makes xp pen a lot better.

From what I've seen and the research I did on it during the making of this video, I think it looks amazing! If it's within your budget and you're looking for a 16 inch display that won't totally break the bank, I don't think I could recommend a better option. I love my XP Pen artist 22 2nd gen, and if I were looking for a 16 inch model to go for, I would 100% get it. I'm honestly thinking about saving up for one to buy in the future just to have the smaller form factor as an option when I don't need the 22 inch screen

You wouldn't eat dinner with a surgical tools. It's just not what they are designed for. Likewise, Wacom's high end tech is designed to cater to people who need insanely high color fidelity, amongst other things. Most students and hobby artists can do well with an Ipad or Samsung tablet.
