Thank you for this informative video. I have a few crisp, white shirts - never wear them. They just don't feel right. The same goes for trench coats. Silky white blouses feel better. And I have a collection of jackets that also make me feel more feminine. Copying someone else's style doesn't always work.

The biggest struggle for me now is that I actually do know what I want in terms of my style but because I do know what I want quite specifically in terms of color, fabric, silhouette etc. the problem is now finding it….so many brands are not my style and the ones that are my style, do not carry the items in my size or are insanely expensive or they only put out limited releases and if I get the wrong size then that’s it, no exchanging for a different size. Also, I am petite and it is nearly impossible to find clothes in my style that fit…v necks way too low, shoulders way too wide, waists way too low, sleeves too long etc. Also a common issue is the better, high quality items are so extremely expensive now. I’m fine ‘investing’ in good quality items, however, as with most things that are produced now…the options are very cheap fast fashion or crazy, extremely expensive items/ brands. The best example is knitwear. Most is cheap, synthetic polyester, nylon etc. and even in fast fashion brands they will still be charging $100+ for synthetic knitwear. But if I actually want a more natural fibre knitwear, then the cost is $200 absolute minimum or $350+. Thrifting is now even ridiculously expensive. It’s one extreme or another. These are my ‘fashion/ style’ challenges now.

Thank you for sharing your struggle Sarah. A LOT of women feel the same way. It's challenging to buy clothes off the rack that fit us as is for most of us, so including the cost of a good tailor into items can also get price-y. A couple thoughts I have for you: have you tried European brands for sizing? I find they run smaller. If you are a Nordstrom club member (it's free) you can get free alterations on items you purchase there and I believe also at Nordstrom Rack as well. Tailoring is so important to making an item fit. Clothing prices have in general gone up while quality has gone down. However, I believe you can find amazing deals and great quality when you shop Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom, and Nordstrom Rack online during one of their sales (which is every other month). Long before I knew about stylist I bought basic neutral clothing. I couldn't afford much so keeping it simple enabled me to mix and match. I guess it could be called my personal style because iam comfortable dressing this way. Love your channel and great advice.

I've come to terms with your advice on hanging or having your clothes *visible*. I had a great hidden wardrobe that was never unpacked when I moved. It was shoved to the back of the closet for expediency. While I was browsing online, I literally had not shopped in years, I was thinking "I think I wore something like that. I wonder where it went?" Also I had to overcome the too nice to wear. I don't wanna get it dirty syndrome. The result was an inordinate amount of back T-shirts.

It makes it so much easier to get dressed and feel good when you can see what you have! I used to fall into the "I don't want to wear my nice things" too like many of us. But when we choose to step into and show up for our lives today, there is no better time to wear your nice things ❤

Your advice is so spot on! I am thinking about some of the missteps I have made in shopping. Loving the colour, but the style is just not for me! I have discovered that high necks are not as flattering on me yet ironically a simple turtleneck is lovely. I like feminine colours but not frilly clothes….I have never been more mindful of how things make me feel. My problem is having a budget that allows me to buy what I want and I really need to learn more restraint…I love Gucci and Prada but I have enough! That word enough is much more aligned with my values but has not been how I lived. I am learning. Thanks!

Thanks for your question! Criteria would be any word you'd use to describe a piece. For example, it could be the color, style, silhouette, fabric, the feel (is it comfortable or casual?), is it a solid or a pattern. There are no wrong answers!

Good advice but hard to follow sometimes, as I'm sure you know - we crave novelty and the "new shiny," for example. So true about the button-up white shirt - my version turned out to be a black button-up shirt - easier to keep clean 😄 and just worked better for me. A chambray button-up also works better with how I actually live as well! Thanks for your videos!!!
