On the Motorway I reckon it should be made into a ‘smart’ motorway with those periodic speed signs of overhead gantries. Would in my opinion make it look a little more British looking. Also when airports are unlocked by the Airport you should make an area next to it like the NEC with convention centre halls, a big shopping centre, a couple hotels and various activity centres,

The original smart motorways where the hard shoulder became an extra lane were ok, because when you were using the hard shoulder it was busy and there was a lower speed limit. The dangerous ones are the all lane running motorways where there’s no hard shoulder, only emergency bays.

Ah, yes, classical cyclist, so hardcore they're willing to risk their lives for cycling - and apparently perfectly fine with being pro-car centric development that will get them killed, and won't get more people cycling. Normal old people, who just want the most convenient and safest way to get places, wouldn't be caught dead on a painted bicycle gutter on a main route; because they realize they would be literally caught dead. If you want lots of normal people to be cyclers to alleviate car traffic your bicycle infrastructure needs to be as separated from cars as possible, and should be far away from any main arterial. Roads for cycles should have traffic calming measures to keep cars from going fast. It's exactly small roads that can make do with Cycle lanes; larger roads either need a complete separate bicycle path; or you design roads and streets and such cyclers cars have their own streets designed with mainly them in mind, and cyclers will use those streets, while cars can get on the main roads for them; so the two stay safely separate.

Great episode Biffa! Since you're talking about walkability, one thing that always bugged me was how you had the canalside paths beside the Wold go up to street level and made people cross the road at the bridges. I've walked canalside/riverside paths in many cities - including some in the UK - that just run under the bridges, and they work wonderfully. No horde of pedestrians appearing at bridges and then disappearing again. You can even have a whole park beside the river - makes a great flood soak IRL - and just have the bridges run over the park, splitting it into little sections that have a single path connecting them all. Maybe something to try along the Wold in another section if you don't want to rebuild the existing setup. :D

I think the smaller cul-de-sac roads would be better off without bike lanes on each individual ones (maybe not for the games weird logic but certainly for realism), maybe just on that slightly more main road that goes round the back by the park and similar. The only smaller residential roads with bike lanes/markings in the UK are mostly on London’s “Quietway” cycling network for quieter cycling routes, and only tend to be on specific paths and routes as opposed to every single road

Also, every road with a cycle lane looks a bit crazy and probably a bit unrealistic in my opinion, but a cycle lane would look better along the dual carriage way, if there's such a road? Oh, no! Cycle lanes do not belong on a massive dual carriage roads; in real life, nobody but hardcore cyclists is going to make use of it; because it's WAY to dangerous. Bicycles do not belong on major car roads. Cycle lanes, also known as a painted bicycle gutters when applied to those major car roads, belong on smaller roads exactly where Biffa put them. For major arterials bicycles need their own separate path, or a different road that is built with bicycles in mind, and discouraging car usages that functions as the main bicycle arterial. Bicycles and pedestrians should be kept from motorized vehicles as much as possible, and especially from high speed major through roads.

I guess with advancement in technology, future trees in The Wold are now grown in the air to save on land use. Also when you connected the new residential neighborhood up to the park, wouldn't it make sense to extend the park coverage and add park entrances and exits, rather than just straight paths to the streets?

There is the area opposite The Wave that you started to turn into a more traditional town centre. expanding that, with denser urban areas immediately around it (you already have the flats on one side), could answer some of your commercial, office & residential needs. Then add some lower density modern suburbs beyond that towards the higher ground to cap off that end of town

I still have so much to learn in this game! This video was so inspiring to make my city more walkable, which is definitely something I strive for in the city I'm building! Traffic management has become the bane of my existence haha and I'm so thankful for these great ideas!

and the fun part about this is, all the problems and their solution apply to real cities aswell. i'm looking at you, america, even a game has better non-car infrastructur

More so than that; a game designed around car-centric horrible American cities (since Skylines is mostly a implementation of the Sim City model, as they capitalized on last Sim City completely failing) still has better non-car stuff than American cities (though granted, most of them come from mods.)

Love the city but everytime you put a new bus route I wonder why don't you use the modern double decked buses?! I think it would be beautiful!

The current setup does indeed remind me of british biking standards. Just some isolated bikelanes in regions, but an even better solution would be a comprehensive biking network, not only connecting parts of the towns, but interconnect the towns with bicycle paths too. Although that might get a bit too dutch and not British haha

Since work is well advanced on the UKs national cycle network, it would not be unreasonable to have a dedicated cycle path running the relatively short distance between the 2 main population centres

I think you should add in a path with zoning, put down houses and add in a multi-storey outside the estate

When you joined the new estate to the long park you forgot to put in the managed gates, so your new owners can get in free!

Not sure that this Park was ever properly gated. I don't think Biffa was charging for it anyway

Love all the pedestrian activity! Really makes it come to life. I know in reality the estates probably wouldn’t have great connectivity, but a road that connects them to each other in the middle, would help people get about more (and would spread the range of your services in this area). I think you would probably also have some residential areas spring up around the train station, as lots of people would want to live close to the great transport links :)

Are the updated UK style roads available on the steam workshop? I haven't had them installed since around the time of the issues around the wave roundabout because I had the same problems

Funny how people are allowed to drive a whopping 50 mph on that tiny bridge at The Wold :D Yes I'm still watching this series and I absolutely love it. Still having troubles with getting all of it to work (aka: getting CTD's despite turning almost everything else off), but I'll get there, and I'll build myself a UK city too!

Im sure the people living in this new residential area will have a great time seeing the smoke rise from the crematorium in their neighborhood. Especially those that go to the doctor‘s right next to it. 😅

I'm not sure why, but in Norway they tent to make the crossings go under the heavy trafficked roads and usually close to where other roads meet or important footpaths are coming close.
