Suprising you got a 24-70 with an a7cii - isnt it too big?? I would think that a 20-70 paired with a 1.4 prime makes more sense. But let me know, trying to make a decision myself.

The GM2 version is a little bit lighter weight and smaller, making the pairing a pretty solid combination! I own the GM1 and it definitely feels a bit front heavy but because I shoot a lot of events, The 24-70 focal range and f/2.8 aperture is needed to be flexible for most of the day-if we get into lowlight/evening shots, then I would switch over to my 24/1.4 GM or 50/1.4 GM!

@@DavidZhou I'd say it makes sense for events - f2.8 would be useful then. For travel though? Surely an f4 zoom would be more than enough with a prime. 20mm on the wide end is great for landscape/vlogging/interiors too...

For most (including myself), the 24-70 will be the only lens they need. The GM ii is worth the extra expense.

Yeah, I owned that focal length on a C100ii. Functional and useful for sure, but not exciting. I'll never buy one with my own money as I'd rather have a good 18/35/85mm for the same money and less weight. If I did more run & gun type shooting, I'd probably consider it, but I manage just fine with a good 35mm in even those situations.

GM II is well worth the price difference…..even though I have seen GM 1’s on facebook marketplace for like $900-$1K some good deals on the used market. I have been eyeing a used GM II for $1,800. I wish lol 😂

You said new cameras handle distortion with new software. So: Is focus breathing still a thing? I really hate that when racking focus.

Most recent Sony mirrorless cameras from the past several years has in-camera focus breathing compensation, so if you use a Sony lens and have it turned on, it will correct the distortion and your footage will have minimal to no breathing. Focus breathing is still a thing for third-party lenses (unless the lenses themselves just don’t have any breathing in the first place). Hope that helps!

Can I use this on a6700 - I mostly do landscape and product photography - and I’d love one of these but my sensor is crop

Yes you can! It would still be a great pairing, just keep in mind your effective focal length would be 36-105. Though, depending on how wide of a lens you like for landscapes it might not be wide enough and keep in mind that the camera will definitely be front heavy. But if that’s ok with you, it’ll result in some really sharp images!

yea be careful this was a mistake I made early on thinking since its built so well and so expensive that this was going to be " the best ". It is still a very nice lens, but there are so many more options that are so budget friendly. I know thats so repetitive on here but it's so true. hope you find something you enjoy
