When I was an apprentice my head mechanic said to me "You can waste your money on Phillips screwdrivers, or you can buy a good set of JIS screwdrivers once in your life and have them for life" I have very old set of wooden handle screwdrivers that I've owned for nearly 30 years. I went wooden because at the time oils and chemicals would ruin plastic handled drivers. Mine also have a steel end on the handle to allow for tapping with a hammer. The plastic ones at the time also didn't have that. JIS is a significant improvement over Phillips. Every person who ever has considered buying a set of screwdrivers, invest in a JIS set.

I found out about these around a year ago. I was tired of having screws and other hardware on my Honda atv that wanted to strip out in the heads. These changed all that. Plus, they work in regular phillips head hardware just as good. They do not cam out nearly as easy. I really enjoy the quality of the Vessel Megadora screwdrivers, especially the impacta drivers. They're the best I've ever had.

I am a very old guy who has been wrenching for decades and today I learned some good stuff. The dimple on the screw was real news. So the next question is: What screw spec is used on all that stuff we get from China?
@KrakensGarageandAdventures3 ай бұрын
I'm not hating on China in this reply, per se. Chinese screw are terrible quality standards. They're rarely the same size on each and every one. Coupled with a very poor metal, they're soft and easily strip out. My advice is to replace them all with a quality set of screws. These Vessel Impacta screwdrivers are the best in the business. I hope you try one put. You'll be shocked at how productive they work. Thanks for watching, and I hope I answered your question. Cheers

I'm rather annoyed with the continuous reinventing of the wheel with new screw head designs. They keep coming out with new ones that we have to go out and buy yet more screwdivers than we had before. The last one I recently came across was the star head. I only got them because I couldn't find Philips head ones. What a disaster. The set of star bits which were displayed next to the screws slipped on the first try. Never again will I buy new special screws. All I need are Philips which always works great.

I get it. It seems every project i work on has a differ proprietary bit to do the job. The star or Torx bits are tricky. They'll feel like the right size when you really need a size or two larger. There's nothing wrong with the Phillips. Enjoy what has worked for you this far. Cheers
