I couldn't believe it when I was watching Car Pervert (Jonny Smith) and when he talked about the heater bring an option in the earlier models I was blown away. Amazing how the standards in the industry are changing so quickly and the old questions we used to ask are changing. Everything these days is fast, 0-60 is no longer the indicator if a car is for a petrol head or not.
@tomsixsix3 жыл бұрын
That's the auxillary heater. The GTE has always had a regular electric heater but it uses a fair bit of range. The auxillary heater was only made available in very cold countries, it burned ethanol to provide heat. Very efficient and actually quite low cost and good for the environment. But many cars have these, even non-electric cars, because the heaters struggle in very very cold weather if you do a lot of slow driving.
@edc15693 жыл бұрын
What, they’ve always had a heater, it’s quite clever as it’ll use electricity or waste engine heat depending on what’s available

Hi Paul, I have got a mk7.5 GTE . I noticed vehicle's Side Assist and Blind Spot monitor are not available when I try to activate through the stereo and through the assist systems. 1) In settings- Side Assist is unchecked and cannot be enabled. I get "Function Not Available". 2) Blind assist is checked, but I can't uncheck it and also it doesn't light up. when I try I get the same "Function Not Available" What could the possible issues be and how can we fix them?

I have a 2020 Golf 1.4 PHEV called the eHyrid. Not sold in the UK but its basically a GTE with a software limit on the electric motor so total hp is 204hp. Nice car, happy with it but PHEV is a stop gap technology IMO, Be amazed if they keep any PHEV in the range until 2030.

I loved the car it was sooo fun in gte mode , but in terms of economy it was just awful long distance. Short distance in e mode great but electric range only really did 18 or 19 miles max. Once ran out it would rinse the fuelllll. But the gte mode is just instant power. But sadly got rid it was using too much fuel id get 40 mpg if I did anything over 50 miles. Even thr car in hybrid mode driver carefully id get 45 mpg

On my daily trip to work( 26kms) I get between 6.9-8.5 L/100km which is equivalent to 35-40 mpg…. And that’s in my 2018 Golf Gti here in Australia… so the GTE isn’t that much more fuel efficient over the GTI. If I go the short way home and drive more spiritedly… I’m still getting c10 L/100km or about 29 mpg

The point of the GTE is for shorter journeys. So comparing it to a GTD on fuel economy is daft. Diesels are designed for long journeys. I was doing to many short journeys and kept needing oil changes as the oil got condensation and gunged up. Love my GTE so far

Great video. I do wonder whether this 2030 is a pipedream and the reality of no petrol, a severe lack of charging stations, and the consequences of having thousands of cars out of juice on a motorway after gridlock for a few hours makes it unrealistic. I think hybrid will be the way from 2030 and i'd be surprised if we see pure electric for at least another 20-30 years as the infrastructure just isn't there. In addition I suspect the ever increasing cost of energy will also make it just unrealistic unless massive subsidies are provided by the governments, and thus the tax payer...

And the maintenance I feel will more costly for GTE such as every 2 years the 6 speed dsg maintenance, or something . And I've got to do a mixture of short and motorway driving from London to bham. Which model do you thjnk is more suitable for me? I had a 1.6 tdi diesel 2011 mk6 before, but due to a gearbox issue of 2k mechatronic unit issue and a clutch replacement due.... and diesel, im advised to sell it. Sadlly
