Driving in the winter can present some major challenges. Low grip environments test your driving skills, patience, and equipment. I flew to Colorado to test out the New Bridgestone Blizzak 6 snow tire on the GR Corolla and get more experience at the Bridgestone Winter Driving School. Seat time in low grip environments is important to avoid dangerous situations on the road but it's also a ton of fun.

Florida resident here! I have driven in all kinds of weather, from tornadoes to hurricanes, but snow has always alluded me (for obvious reasons). Most I’ve driven through was a small flurry up in New York this past December. Was giggling and smiling like a little kid lmao. Snow seems so much fun to screw around in, wish my area could’ve gotten some last month when Florida snowed. Great pov! Love the GR Corolla, looks like tons of fun to drive!

As a GR Corolla owner who also recently went through my first decent amount of snow on the ground, it makes me ECSTATIC to see you post this video. Now, let's see how you get on. Edit: So, when we had our snow and ice on the roads here a couple weeks back (based on what you were talking about with folks from the South, I think you shot this around the same time, albeit in a very different part of the country), I had already been running my "winter" tires for a while, as it had been below 45 deg F since back in late October. I run Pilot Sport 4 All Seasons, because we just don't get enough snow to justify dedicated snow tires here, but it gets cold enough to turn summer tires into hockey pucks. And they have been STELLAR for me. Excellent grip in sub-freezing temps, great water clearance when it's raining, and more than enough grip in snow. However, similarly to the Blizzaks, it's also plenty easy to break traction on them, when you want to (and, if you're no good at driving in snow, even when you don't). I have a couple of large parking lots around that I've scoped out over the years. No hidden parking stoppers. Just wide-open expanses of asphalt, where all the things you don't want to hit are easy to see, even under a foot of snow and ice. And this car... well, you know! This car is a BLAST in those conditions. Just sliding around, spinning donuts, cutting sideways figure-8s. It was the most fun I've had in winter since the last time I went snowboarding, and that was 20 years ago. I keep hoping we'll get another round of it before the winter ends, because MAN do I want to go do that again. If I lived anywhere near Colorado, I'd absolutely sign up for this course.

In 1971 I took driver's ed as a sophomore in high school. Part of the course was on winter weekends after snow or ice in the school parking lot. We had to learn how to handle the enormous Matador in a skid. I remember hoping we wouldn't hit a light pole. You couldn't do that today.

Just snagged a 23 GRC and slapped some Vredestein Wintrac Pros on it for wintertime here in Buffalo and man this car just loves when we get tons of lake effect snow!

Buffalo is WILD in the winter. You have the perfect car. I think these blizzak 6 tires will be very similar to the tires you have. I’d love to test them back to back since they aim at being a performance snow tire

​@dawsonjohannes613 Rust proof it if you're living in a rust belt. I have a 23 grc and live on the east coast of canada, cars rust to shit pretty fast. I undercoated mine every winter, zero rust anywheres even on the heads of bolts where it surface rusts first.

I was just heading to Daytona for the Rolex 24 and had stopped in Charleston SC for a few days. On the last night, they got 3 inches of snow over some ice! After clearing the snow off my X3M, equipped with the Pirrelli Scorpion winters, I hit the streets. Most were untouched with only a few cars having been out. I finally got to 4 lane 17 to head to I-95. It took 3 hours for 60 miles but mostly given slow traffic. But the X3M did remarkably good with its X-drive. I just had to drive it like I only had 100hp. I even passed a car struggling on a cleared section by driving through the unplowed lane to pass! Then I hit I-95 south which had wrecks every 10 miles or so. It was still a mess with jack-knifed trucks, pickups that rolled, cars in the median and more. Finally got to Florida in one piece after quite the drive, but had done more snow driving that day than the last decade in Charlotte. I will be looking for new winters soon as mine are 4 seasons old. Hopefully Bridgestone has plenty of sizes available.

It took me 23 hours to get from my house to Colorado. 100 miles out from my connection in ATL they turned the plane around and landed us in Raleigh. The airport was fine but due to the winter conditions the highways effectively shut down and none of the staff could get to work.

I was thinking about trading out my xdrive BMW for a Gr Corolla and this kinda convinces me not to. I really like how xdrive truly prioritizes sending power to the back wheels, it seems like the GR struggles to do that. There is too much understeer, even more than the 4runner (the truck diffs obviously help with that). I usually only get understeer when I’m plowing through chopped up snow, but as soon as I apply some power I can both enter and exit a controlled slide (applying power also pulls me out of a slide since the front wheels get some power and have the grip to pull the car straight)

Yeah it's crap, but it's economical and for most vehicles that's gonna matter more, especially with the price tags on these cars. Besides, all of the "features" would be hard to implement if there were a million different buttons for them.
