If you want to achieve your dreams you need to Stop hoping for things to change.
We all tend to think that hope is a very positive emotion but it can actually be extremely detrimental to you achieving your goals.
Hope is defined as "wanting something to happen or to be the case".
The problem is that hoping for something to happen has absolutely no impact on whether that thing actually happens.
If you want things in your life to change... you need to make changes in what you are doing.

A very tough pill to swallow. I'm not gonna say it's wrong, but I will say it can be a lot more nuanced. There are other issues and factors at play, other things surrounding this that need to be considered and addressed. For one I am glad you specified the circumstances classical artists had to deal with and how it's changed today, I didn't know that and it has helped set something in my mind to rest. I would like to say however that this needs to be put in better perspective. A common and healthy thing I've learned as an artist is the importance of drawing what you love, and not changing your artwork into something you don't like just to suit the masses. What you've said almost sounds like the exact opposite advice. Like how I forced myself into realism because "that's what you do as an artist, that's how you improve, that's what everyone wants to see." I hate realism, but in order to "see" it correctly I changed my very art style into it and started my "dark age" of burnout, because not only did I hate what I was making but nobody else really liked it either and it really wore on me. Maybe I just wasn't technically good enough, but I hated it so much that I couldn't commit to realism like I needed to in order to get past "uncanny valley". I did learn and grow as an artist from that experience, ultimately my work is better now than it ever has been, but I almost stopped being an artist because of it. I'm not saying that I think this is really what you're trying to tell people. I'm saying that I think you have nuggets of good advice in here, overall I think this is a good and worthwhile video, but it's missing the full picture and can end up being a bit misleading to the unsuspecting, a common challenge for anyone making informative content. Not to mention there are many other factors sited by other artists, and many artists who do succeed ultimately attribute it to "I worked hard" or "I got lucky" or both. Possible sited factors can include things like your platform, your marketing (including if you've picked a "target audience"), your upload consistency, and, like mentioned, a _lot_ of artists strongly believe that if you love or hate what you make, it shows through and impacts your success. I would love to see a more comprehensive video which talks about all of this.

Yes this is correct… change is an inside job. I’ve been an artist for many many years, my whole life really as art is my therapy. Only just starting to sell consistently and even then I have dry spells. Tim is what I needed today!

Very well explained. I have my art on Instagram. This is a good tool to see how many likes you get on which art works. I find that handy. I just need to reach more people. Promoting the work on there I think you have to pay? Do you know of this? Is this how it works?

Hi Gillina, I have grown my following for the most part with just with organic reach ... but I have occasionally paid to boost a post..., that gets it in front of more people... there are a ton of videos on KZbin about how that works👍

I suggest to target your potential customer, not just try to show it to random folks. It’s extremely rare that someone buys an original fine artwork, it practically never happens. Look at people’s homes. Nobody buys original fine art, it’s mainly a wide spread hobby. So, learn how to target your ideal customer (which is less than 0.1% of people). Growing useless audience that never buys is a huge waste of time, plus mentally draining. Learn how to rarget correctly. Wishing you luck!
