I love Japanese too and I don’t mind they’re are not “inclusive” because they are a homogenous country. I’m originally from east Africa and Kelly would say the same thing as a black woman about my country not being inclusive because for us you are not black or African-American. You are just American and completely different from my culture .
@ElegantPaws01
@ElegantPaws01 Жыл бұрын
@@mdte5421 exactly and part of being homogeneous is balance in being able to see yourself in your neighbor which osmotically produces respect, patience and reverence. When there is too much varisnce in the collective it produces apathy and indifference culturally. That is when community goes through the window.

Over 10 years ago my size 2 cousin went to China to study and toured other countries while in Asia, and she complained about the same thing with clothing. She said even finding shoes was difficult. Her size 8’s were hobbit feet there. The shoe size thing leads me to believe that maybe the average Asian really is smaller framed?! I mean you can diet all you want but you can’t really cut shoe sizes. So it begs the question… are the clothes cut smaller because they smaller framed than westerners… or it is really a beauty standard thing? Either way, I’m surprised to hear the same complaints today.
@KelcyPassportbyDesign
@KelcyPassportbyDesign Жыл бұрын
I think they are smaller framed in Japan than the US. I've never been to Japan but in South Korea my US size 8.5 was equal to men's size shoes. My feet were so much larger than all the women. But I do agree some Asian countries may have preconceived notions about people from the US being larger.
@crafty_wineaux
@crafty_wineaux Жыл бұрын
@@KelcyPassportbyDesign they’re definitely smaller framed, and most Americans are larger sized. My comment was more focused on applauding someone for even considering that, especially when it doesn’t apply to them. Honestly I’m shocked by there still being sizing issues at dress size 2 or even shoe size 8. The design scale on clothing must be drastic
@BlackGirlLovesAnime6
@BlackGirlLovesAnime6 Жыл бұрын
@@Keesha it’s a combination of both. Asians are smaller framed on average but they aren’t all built like that so it is also discrimination for the ones who are bigger framed. I’m model height size 6/8 and I kno for a fact I’d have a hard time finding clothes there 😂 especially with my size 10 feet too
@earthangel2522
@earthangel2522 Жыл бұрын
@@Keesha Asians have smaller frames as a whole. I went to Nepal for three weeks once and even their large women’s traditional blouse was too tight for me. ( I am a size 10). I could get into it, so I bought one to bring back to the states so I could take it apart and create my own larger pattern.

As someone who lived in Japan and went exploring by myself a lot, I think you nailed it with the "We're in someone else's house" analogy. The key to getting the most out of one's experience travelling abroad is respecting the culture of the country you're in. I absolutely loved my time in Japan and I can't wait to go back and explore more. I highly recommend you go to Kyoto next, or if you fancy a winter trip - the snow festivals in Hokkaido. ☺ Thank you for sharing your experience!

Stomach cancer is a really big issue in Japan... The society is also very misogynistic and patriarchal, it's a hush hush culture where young people get burned out, I could never live there under such conditions. But I travelled through Japan alone for a month too. For an outsider everything looks exciting, pretty and cute... Japan is far more than that.

Japan is one of the safest countries in the world so it's very safe to travel there not knowing anything as an American. Also, say kawa-EE with accent on the last half of the word because KOWAI as you pronounced it means scary in Japanese! Another thing, I think that people are different outside of Tokyo--maybe more laid back and warm. Tokyo is a beast. If you love ramen and Japanese culture, I recommend the film Tampopo, a charming film from the 1980s. Unfortunately, ramen is very processed so not that good for you at all.

For me, when you travel to another country, you're always a foreigner there, which means you will always feel out of place. At the same time, you are in a different country with different culture. So even if you act like normal, like in your hometown/country, it may still seem strange/weird/whatever. So I think we will always be side-eyed when we're in a different country. I also want to say that as foreigners there, it's always good to know their culture first. It helps you to adapt to the environment there and also to act accordingly. Maybe less culture shocks. And I guess the locals will appreciate your efforts to blend in. And as locals, I think they also need to be more open and kind to foreigners, not expect them to act/think like them. Anyway, mutual respect is extremely important for me. It's just my personal opinion. You don't need to accept/understand it. And hopefully you can get what i mean through my broken english.
