This video is amazing in a frustrating way. Because the way you are breaking down the character is how every character guide should be. Every character guide/anti-character guide is: What is punishable, what is duckable, what is frames of move x and y. Knowing the game plan is the part that you can't lab. I can lab the frames of Xiaoyu and her mix ups, but I can't easily figure out through labbing what her gameplan is or what Kaz's is and why they are what they are. Your point about becoming a more well rounded player by playing other characters is well taken. First time tekken player here took me 150 hours to get Bryan to flame ruler and Shaheen/nina to garyu. After playing a bit of shaheen, all of bryan's crouch moves became much easier. One character influenced my skill with another. I really want to learn more characters before I rank up further, I already find it exhausting to start as dominator/vanquisher when I pick up a character for the first time.

@@harpot678 You're partially right but it only benefits character loyalists for as long as they stick to one character. I've recently stepped away from Kazuya after playing him exclusively since T7 and now players that I struggle against despite deep kaz knowledge, familiarity and comfortability are who I'm up against with characters I've never touched before in my life. You'd think ranked would act as a smoother learning curve but not really since 50% of the time you're unable to find matches, and of those you find, most are trying to gain ranks ASAP and so dodge if you beat em soundly (always an issue but I've found it to be grossly common at the ~200k prowess orange ranks). They've tried to mitigate rank stagnation thanks to having a small number of ranks (in T7 they had this issue and it caused a lot of punching downwards that killed ranked) with an additional matchmaking criteria, but all they've done is make ranks meaningless in favour of prowess, which doesn't care about character familiarity. In short, it sucks for everyone and doesn't work properly as a system ahaha.

This is incredible! You have a knack for painting an overall picture of what a character is looking for, plus backing it up with intricate details of their pros and cons! [Balanced, like Leo!] Would you consider making a video that provides a short / general picture of EVERY character? No one I have found really describes the character's as eloquently as you. This might be asking too much, but this video has been the most informative in terms of understanding both different styles of play AND which characters lean towards them. This is my first Tekken. So this video hits perfectly as I have one main character (my 1st choice) while I dance around other characters, but feel trapped in character loyalty to stick to my first choice. A video that describes each character in a concise manner like you have done here, would be legendary. Keep up the awesome work!

@@DioRando98 Why wouldn't they want people to switch to Heihachi, they're selling the dlc
@DioRando985 ай бұрын
@@aoi7910 Similar to akuma they wanted to make an extremely overpowered DLC character that everyone would try and they succeeded but in doing so they threw the hardcore player base under the bus and allowed such a disgusting character like akuma to be as good as he was especially in tournaments all you saw was akuma it was pretty sad also Leroy. So you can say yes the point of DLC is to sell DLC but it should not be at the expense of the player. You want the player to feel free to pick any character because every character should have tools suitable combat or counter everyone else. When you have characters like Leroy and akuma especially on release they're obviously better than everyone else so there's no point on picking anyone else. I love character variety especially in tournaments I hate seeing the same character over and over again or fighting the same character over and over again especially when they're just picking them because oh they're selling DLC so they're extremely powerful. Devil jin is a super cool character but the amount of effort you need to put in to do combos or get any life lead at all is extremely strenuous compared to let's say Paul or most likely heyachi on release. My big thing is if you're going to make a DLC character don't just make them overpowered to sell DLC try to make them fair and if they are overpowered please buff other characters like low tier people like Djin to give a reason to people to try other characters.
@DioRando985 ай бұрын

Ive been playing mostly drag (cuz i wanna win) but his flow chart kind of makes me feel like im not playing the game sometimes and i tunnel vision when i play him, i been playing jin and feng in order to get my neutral game up and not focus on plus frames so much. I picked drag because 1. I wanted to win but moreso 2. I just thought he had cool moves and animations. I am pretty experienced so i knew his rushdown playstyle suited me but i wasnt making an extremely informed decision, so i think its good to learn other characters and flesh out my understanding of the game. Honestly, playing other games increases your skill as well, when you switch up to older tekkens, or other fighting games in general, you strengthen your fundamentals and you start to be able to pick out whats good faster

I’ve personally recently demoted to “blue ranks 2.0” after getting Tekken King with Lidia and the part about 200k prowess matchmaking making you face players who will expose your character’s weaknesses is so damn true. I’ve never had to worry about Lidia’s horrendously linear moveset until then because most of my opponents were playing 2D Tekken until now 😂 It makes you come to terms with your character’s strengths and weaknesses. Is it worth it for me to deal with and work around Lidia having arguably the worst low pokes and one of the most linear moveset in the entire roster on top of a fake af stance game that relies entirely on mental frames or specific callouts BUT I also get the most explosive snowballing no execution required mixup blender when my heat is active and got access to Heaven and Earth stance. Following your “toolbox” comparison helps frame what I’m working with in regards to my main’s kit so that I can ask myself “is this what I want to work with on the long term with this specific character?” “is this the type of gameplan and win conditions I wanna commit to to get Ws with this character?”

And I have put myself through the exact exercise you described several times and ended up in very different places because of it. Heihachi is my favorite Tekken character, but the reason I don't main him is bc his tool kit doesn't value the things I do in a hunger games scenario. Great video! First time Tekken player starting from 8 (played a little bit of T5 or T6 for the PSP, and a little of T7). Started with Lars because I had a slight bit of experience from the PSP games but found myself just pressing whatever and not really understanding what I was doing. I could do one or two good combos, but found myself just fishing for his orbital/launcher rather than poking and punishing which kind of got me stuck in... Warrior rank. Got my ass handed to me by an assailant rank Kazuya who absolutely obliterated me 6-0 which kind of got me interested in the character. Watched some of Keisuke's run in CEO, decided to try out his combo challenges and never looked back. And it was quite rough going from Lars to Kazuya. I still hadn't adapted to using the d-pad exclusively (Xbox One Controller) and was switching between the stick and the pad. Learning cd+ moves, the unorthodox inputs (compared to Lars) and playing in a completely different style took a while to get used too. I had the hardest time even landing simple moves since he has a good bit of negative frame moves on block and with how little of a repertoire I had of his moves, I got my ass kicked so much. However, I'll definitely say it has made me improve in Tekken and fighting games as a whole. I don't think I'll be switching up my character anytime soon, but I do have an interest in dabbling with Xiaoyu just because she looks like fun to play. It'd be fun one day to spar with you, but I have a long way to go haha. Cheers, and good day!

Not as long as you think homie! So cool to hear you switch from Lars to Kazuya (They are SOO different!!) but yeah, now you have experience of TWO very different styles of Tekken which makes you better over all. Then again, do you know what you get when you Mix Lars and Kazuya? Reina 👀

This video is relatable as hell to me specifically the character loyalty vs sunk cost section. I dabbled in T7 but couldnt stick with it because those online lobbies were garbage but I played enough to consider myself a Julia player. So now fast forward to T8 and no Julia on the roster I wanted to pick someone that I knew would always be in future game. so I decided to pick up Asuka but wanted to learn Xiaoyu but didn't because I was daunted by the thought of learning Tekken for real and Xiaoyu a character regarded as being very complex at the same time. At first Asuka was fun and I was enjoying learning the game but kinda lost motivation at red ranks and stopped playing for a bit. I'm now picking Tekken back up and decided to go with my gut and start playing Xiaoyu a character most people who know me just assumed I was playing already due to my character picks in other games (Chun-Li in SF, Jam in Guilty Gear, Seong Mina in Soulcalibur, Luong/Mai/Vanessa in KOF and Litchi in Blazblue) and while I'm enjoying the learning process again I know this is going to one hell of a question I ask myself when Julia eventually makes it back into T8..

If you have doubts, just pick whoever you personally like the most cuz of story and/or design, if you stay motivated you WILL learn and become good with anyone no matter what

Tekken 8 is my first Tekken and I went w Jun to learn because I loved her play style. If I knew what I knew now, I would have went with Nina :x I love Tricky Eileen!!! Omg! I was following her Tekken journey and her scientific method of learning. Great video man! 💕

yeah learning new characters give you a wider perspective and knowledge of the game. I have mostly been playing Reina since launch. and since its my first Tekken game it was a lot to learn. I'm only at purple ranks currently right now. but I felt really hard stuck at mighty ruler. I then decided to try and play Alissa, yeah yeah she "plays herself" but it gave me a much better perspective on lows and sidestepping. Now even though Reina's lows aren't great I am using them more just to create pressure. and I am staring to sidestep certain moves/strings to open my opponent up and now I'm getting close to blue ranks. Not to mention learning a new character is fun and helps reset your frustration with the game.

Yep that what happen to me.. my main was Miguel in tekken 7 realize he wasn’t going to be in tekken 8.. I tried Leo and went to ruler ranks, where I struggle the most.. I wanted Leo to be my main so bad but because of my defensive playstyle and my habits of wanting to punish everything Leo to me didn’t have the tools I needed to level up my gameplay style and why I struggle so bad in purple.. I finally tried other characters finally settle for my old main in tekken 6 and tag team 2 day asuka.. I realize how much more comfortable with her and I easily breeze through purple and made it to bushin.. asuka was best suited for me any many situation and has tools Leo didn’t have.. now I’m having fun again and love switching between asuka and Jun like I used to in tag team 2 days.. I guess at heart I will always be a asuka main sometimes you explore options and your real main could be their

I guess a good explanation for your character royalty talk is like me in T7, I could play any character I pick up Blue/Tekken Emperor level, which was my level, but I choose to play this character because it's the one I click with the most, they're the character I want to truly master.

I think kazuyas df2 counts as a defensive crutch of sorts. Part of a good offense is staying safe and non steppable while doing it. And kaz has one of the best homing moves in df2 and ws3

Your channel is sick as hell. I have a question as a purple rank Reina, who is a worthwhile character to play as whose weaknesses are Reina's strength? I've been floating around the idea of Bryan since he seems different enough, Zafrina, and Xiayou. I think your mention of Steve and his lack of good lows is another one I should consider. Are these solid choices?

I was a Raven main, Master Raven in T7. I found she has better tools than Raven in Tekken 8 especially the deletion of certain moves and the jab blind roll that now leaves you to get hit. I've dropped Raven @Battle Ruler, and played some Zafina. Dropped Zafina and now I think I'm going to main Bryan. Not for his damage output in the game or the same combos I constantly see from other players. But his movement diversity and his counterhit potential. I believe that's why I liked Raven in Tekken 8 was his mixups and forcing a player to go low, mid or high and break them. Well, Bryan has something similar with his movement as well. On top of counterhit. I find him to be more difficult. But I'm actually learning the frames with Bryan. Zafina made me learn to side step and get better defense. I believe Bryan is making me slow down apply defense better movement side stepping and looking out for opportunities to counterhit. I may have found my ace. And I can't wait to get even better with this character imo
