Ruben Amorim is an exciting appointment for Manchester United and you're allowed to be excited. Are there similarities to when Erik ten Hag was appointed? Absolutely, but there are differences too. United fans should be excited. He’ll be a success. He'll win the Europa League this season. Players that looked awful under previous managers will play a lot better. His communication is top notch; with press and players alike. Brilliant tactician as well. Btw I’m a Sporting (born and raised in Lisbon) and Liverpool fan.

what makes you think communication was the problem? Did ex-coaches like benni or mclaren talk about it? No. If its clear benni would said that. HE WAS in AWE why did it happened. You may not want to say it aloud, but i can. Pressing failed because all players didnt do their part. Its really fragile thing. And same players you guys say manager has a favorites. Sancho talked about it and you guys thinked it was antony. No sancho does not want to play right side. Wake up! Untill this last bad apple finds a spine or leaves, this club cannot thrive.

Hey there, portuguese Sporting Fan here. Good video and highlight of his strenghts, too give you further context Amorim joined Sporting at literaly the worst time in the clubs history, the fans phisicly attacked the players and half left, there was no money, and coaches were being eaten by the dozen. Enters Amorim, coach for 2.5 years at that point. After 5 years Sporting is Top Dog of Portuguese Football, something that hasnt happened in over 50 years. This is beyond unique of a feat, especialy when your competitors have double the money (benfica and Porto). The feeling here is of utter sadness, you are taking away a literal miracle from the club, and yet you do not realize it wich is kind of infuriating. :) It´s ok, life goes on and forever we will remember what he made us achieve. But for further info of him, i would just add that great part of his sucess is, how he makes his 3 -4 -3 work and how he adapts very well his players to it It´s kind of unique system, in which he will break some rules of modern football, playing from the back at all times even luring the oponent to their own box, using wrong side foot players on the wings, the absence of tradicional fixed positions and more colective system where they kind of do it all. Center backs are also midfielders, wing backs do the entire lanes, always double pivot midfield that are both 6, 8 and 10 depending on game phase, and the three at the front, really go everywhere in the front line, And its all conected by the absurd width that team always plays, from side line to sideline, always. It seems really simple, and is dreadfully effective, in 5 years here no coach has found the antidote, like i mean no one. All i can say your in for a treat. As for us.... it´s a nightmare.

Mate we should stop this player power narrative because it's starting to become more irrelevant than ever. 29 players squad, ETH bought 15 of them and promoted 6 of them out of a winning academy team. Just 8 old players remaining which include Shaw training from hospital, Lindelof our 5th choice CB, Tom Heaton who barely touched the grass. Media put so much spotlight on Rashford, while I agree he's been inconsistent but you got to ask a question if one player had so much 'power' to influence the rest of the team to throw another manager under the bus? If anything, the most recent results only showed that our manager was not capable of bringing this squad forward. No one is bigger than the club and that statement also applies to a manager.

If Manchester United fans (still) loved Ten Hag, then make no mistakes... they'll love Rúben Amorin much much more. I can assure you that. Rúben talks football and strategy like Rangnick did. He is direct with his arguments and a great character with a very good personality. Ten Hag can be a great coach, but he lacked a lot of that. Not to mention communicational skills and empathy. Rúben has it all. This is a great signing for Man Utd. I'm 42, a portuguese Sporting Lisbon supporter and Man United fan, since a young age. And by the way, i am also a Mourinho fan, which i consider to be the right person at the wrong time in United. I'm very excited with this signing by Manchester United, but really gutted and sad for Sporting Lisbon. I have never seen a person who united the club, the fans, who is respected even by the opposition, as much as Amorim did. And he did it with his personality, his intelligence to manage the team, how he worked their mentality to play together... he basically created a big family at Sporting Lisbon. The board allowed him to do that by supporting him. Which is important to notice, because we all know with United hasn't always been the case for a long time. I am truly and really very, very sad for Sporting Lisbon, because without Amorim, the good stability of the club now is uncertain, in terms on how the players will react with his absence and without his guidance and leadership on the field and in the training ground. He was the glue between everyone. But at least i can be assured that, i will still be able to see and enjoy "my" manager Rúben leading my other team, in Manchester United. And i am 100% sure all the United fans will as well.
@joni.sirvio886719 сағат бұрын
Sam, i see this littlebit differently. If amorim came 2019 he would be crumbled immediately. When owners wanted '"city ball" and appointed Ralf most of us knew it will be HUUUGEEE task. Our players didnt have stamina or other needed physical attributes. They moaned about running training. They had never pressed in their life. Ronaldo lead a coup againt ralf about it. Wasnt great start for ETH either. He had to disciple some bad apples out, but clearly there still were some players who didnt give 100% for the style. He got remaining old players in shape. He got them to learn pressing. ETH revamped our defs. Out of maguire+lindelof and 3-man backline for FIRST TIME in united history. Yoro for future. He revamed mids. No more mcfred. We have Mainoo and Ugarte with great future. He revamped attackers. No more troublemakers. Garnacho and amad have grew and Hojlund looks glimpses of greatness. I see Ralf and ETH as hard headmasters who make students learn maths, physics, chemistry due repetitions and now students can go nice art and music class. NOW amorim have groundwork ready made and he have real chance to be successful. Something Ralf and ETH never had.

I think TH had his weaknesses. He wasn't the most charming man in the world. However, I do believe the press were particularly unforgiving with him, and I liked the way he didn't court them. It was summed up by their response when he said that they had made up lies and fairytales about him and his team. He then corrected himself and said that it was SOME of the press. Of course, many quoted just the first part and completely backed up what he had claimed, a lot were liars and fantasists and cynics. For example, many, including Tim Sherwood and Agbonlahor, used to waffle on about how EVERYONE won the league as Ajax manager. Well, erm actually they didn't 4 years before he went there, and they haven't done since. They also disparaged Rangnick in the same way, dismissing his record as a manager and, ignoring that he had been brought in ultimately to oversee the club as a director of football. It would be nice if these overpaid 'experts' were able to do a little more research on the subject matter they comment on. Amorim may be different than TH, and perhaps he will handle the press better, but as soon as he doesn't win a game, his charm will wilt among the buffoons asking him ludicrous questions.
@grishawinner672712 сағат бұрын
ETH had his own shortcomings but remember he literally worked with only about 8 positions. Luke Shaw was never fit, and our midfield was either old or not talented enough. He had to use make shift players in important positions. Even with CBs, he only brought in Martinez & Yoro who’s injured, most of his tenure he had Maguire, Lindelof, Evans, not fair ETH. Players were always injured too. ETH was similarly coveted by top clubs around Europe b4 joining Utd. I hope Amorim brings in some of his own players so that he can be judged by his results and not these current players who have gotten many managers sacked.

I am no expert on Portuguese football Sam that's for sure, but when reading about Amorim & what he has done at Sporting, you can't help but be impressed. I like the thought of him having excellent Communication skills, something which we really have missed under Erik. He's obviously looks like he's got something about him & has that bit of sparkle & charisma, which is a must to be a successful Manchester United manager IMO. The man management skills that Erik obviously lacked in, Ruben does look to be the polar opposite. Hopefully this will be key in him being able to work with top end players & he'll find the best ways to get the best out of our squad. He's only young at 39 & only played & managed in Portugal, so there are obvious concerns about how he'd cope in England managing the biggest club in the world. It is a massive step up, but when isn't getting a new manager not a risk.. I would have been happy to give Ruud a chance to prove himself over the rest of the season in truth Sam, but that's clearly not gonna happen now, so we move on. Hopefully Ruben Amorim, settles in quickly & the players respond to him positivity. He needs a good start, he gets the players responding he could be the perfect man..🙏🙏🙏

Eventually we fell into the same pitfalls as we usually do and we ended up where we are now. We should be excited snd hope that this time with a competent backroom we finally progress further and dont stagnate as we've done before.

I'll be excited for our wins and football, but I don't trust these players. 2.5 years later if we are back here, how does it change?

They were eth players, what does that say about ten hag if thats the case. But i dont believe any of this waffle you decided to type.

If things work in training but not in matches (which isnt true, by the way, we're usually executing well in the first 30-45 then players stop executing) it's because the players aren't executing or focused on the task at hand.

I'm excited by amorim and I'll back him down to the last game just like every manager before him. I'm even more excited to see Amorim and ruud together as he's likely to stay on. Exciting times ahead reds.

Not to go overboard, but I don't think there's a better appointment we could have made in all honesty. As you say - Amorim is young, exciting, tactically astute & charismatic. I've been a fan of his for the last couple of seasons & whilst there are risks, as with any manager, this is the most forward thinking, positive appointment we could have made.

I feel like it’s crazy that people are saying you can’t be excited. I support my club so why do people care that I have hope and is excited by a hire?

If player power is at the peak of Ragnick, its quite short sighted to then blame it on him. He's only on for a short tint. But nobody has the guts to call spade a spade

Super excited for Amorim - especially the narrative that he ended the 19 year drought at Sporting that belief itself is HUGE; however, realistically he’ll quickly realize the EPL is like playing full-strength Benfica and Porto most weekends with 10000% more media scrutiny.

Any deal between Sporting Lisbon and United always turns good - Ronaldo, Nani, Marcus Rojo, Bruno and now Ruben Amorim. I am not really excited cos I dread the same cycle of ineffectiveness that has consumed the previous managers after SAF.

To me it doesn't really matter who the new manager is. I just want them to come in and be successful, entertain us fans and ideally win something at the end of the season as despite how bad last season was ending it by beating City in the FA Cup Final gave me a buzz all summer! More of that please!!!

Ten Hag was the best coach for united post Fergie,its just that the players lack the mindset he demanded. Players are afraid to run or train hard for the badge.

It doesn't matter what type of managers we have if the players' hearts aren't into it. Speaking from experience, I was tutored by all types of teachers in Mathematics but due to my lack of interest in the subject, it didn't matter. So, I dropped the subject entirely, looking back I should have dropped it sooner rather than later. Basically what I'm saying is that those players who aren't willing to give it all every game, week in week out, they should be sold asap.
@frankoswin82094 сағат бұрын
I want to say this. For proper communication, both sides should be ready to communicate. Our players rn't there yet in being criticized especially the older ones.

I think my excitement is more cautious. I really really thought EtH was going to be the right guy. Rangnick was right about the club needing open heart surgery. I think Amorim will have the pieces in place with Ineos to do what’s needed. Ineos wasn’t sold on Ten Hag but only kept him bc of the FA Cup. I think our summer transfers make a lot more sense under Amorim. Ten Hags approach clearly didn’t work with our squad, so I have hope that a different perspective could help I have to be excited bc I won’t accept defeat! Glory Glory

I generally like your videos Sam as I see them to be balanced and informative. BUT, this type of videos are the ones I least like for the following reasons: 1. The tendency to HYPE (not only the manager but also the new players). The more we hype the manager, the faster we get disillusioned when things don't go well. The harder we fall and fill disenchanted. 2. I understand that there are positive characteristics that every manager brings with them before they join Man United. But that is just one part of the equation to be successful. Will these characteristics match with our present player? During the past 1 and a half year, I started to believe that we got all sort of characters in our team and some of these characters have the tendency to be selfish, lazy, have brain farts etc... (which unfortunately manifest during critical period of a match). They don't match with our manager's characteristic, which is a factor for the demise of the manager. 3. Regarding the Manager's style / tactic before they join our club...Like you and many, I also get excited about what they can bring to our club (e.g. we are finally going forward with modern tactics like other top clubs!). But lo and behold! The manager finally found that the players we got have serious limitations to implement his tactics! Therefore the constant flip flop (which I hear from you also) about the manager being so stubborn (e.g. sticking with his tactic despite the performance and result, not adapting to the opponent) VS the manager implementing a boring style that is different from what we heard / wanted before he joined us (but one that fits with the players he had on hand). I see both views thrown out back and forth after every loss or draw. I say that the less we hype, the more we appreciate the manager once he join and the better we all will give him a chance to succeed in implementing his style/tactic.

Sam, its human nature to be excited about something new. We all are excited. At least the real fans are. No matter how many times you've been scarred in football, you'll always be excited to see a new direction. We are at the worst possible position now. It can only be better from here. So being excited is valid.
@ItsSweetLew18 сағат бұрын
Sam, the reason there is a large part of the fanbase that isn’t excited is that we have seen this all before. Ten hag was the hottest manager around three years ago, and we just slagged him off even though we were noticing actual performance progress in games this year and his positive relationship with the players. The defense mechanism we have developed is like a hardened skin or shield. Feels the same as not celebrating a goal when it happens bc var has fucked that for us. We can’t be excited for a new manager because it’s almost embarrassing that it keeps happening over and over. What do they call it when you do the same thing over and over expecting a different outcome? Oh yeah…

It's hard to be excited when the same things have happened to managers such as LVG and Mourinho, managers who have coached some of Europe's best players and clubs, and the same things with Ole and now Ten Hag, even Rangnick who demanded a certain style of play that the players couldn't execute. The day the club gets rid of player power and all those leaks and stuff from the dressing room is the day that i will be excited again with a new manager. Hopefully it all goes well with Amorim, with INEOS at the helm, we can just hope

Yeah personally of a manager has a lot to do with success on the field. Look at the managers we had, van gaal/ETH/ralph are mostly poker faces but they had technical knowledge. We could add jose to that list even though he had better presence. Ole had a, we could say more charismatic personality but lacked technical knowledge. Ruben could be klopp type manager who is charismatic but has the technical knowledge… a combination of jose/eth/van gaal/ole/ralph

Us United fans are thrilled to have Amorim as our main man. But only for 2 seasons. After that we are planning to turn on him. But for now, we love him best manager in the world.
@DominicFranklin-w6y17 сағат бұрын
Ruud showed that if you play quick forward passing football that its possible to get these players more up for it. I hope thats how we approach the chelsea game too. Ten hags football was too slow moving from back to front, lots of sideways passing. As we saw against a poor Leicester team but hope that these players can take that game onboard and repeat the style of quick forward thinking football. At least unttil amorim takes over.

The Glazers picked every manager after sir Alex. This time best in class football experts have selected the manager. I feel like we are now in safe hands and the right manager has been carefully chosen and a style of play has been identified. Inios really do need to back Ruban and give him time support and leadership feom the top. Now it's time to enjoy Ruuuuud being manager and leading us to out first 4 straight wins of the season 🥳🥳🥳

Once bitten, twice shy. And multiply it by number of managers that has come and gone.That's probably why I felt apprehensive about this. It's moving too fast like upending a dinner table with meals still in the midst of getting prepared.
