“Walk of pride” I call it. Pride that I’m trying and learning. I found I mastered upwind on a flat sheltered body of water but in the sea a very different kettle of fish. Am still working on it ! Thanks for the tips

I am a beginner on a small lake so there’s not really a beach and so I don’t do a walk of shame but I’ve mastered the “upwind body drag of shame”. Haha

Yes, totally agree, I can go upwind on flat water ok, but on an exposed sea, I struggle. Particularly on the tack away from the beach into the waves. I either launch of the top of the wave and go down wind with mini unintentional jumps or when I slow down to avoid jumping, the wave knocks further speed off and I then have to pick up speed after the wave by pointing the board downwind to avoid stalling. On the other tack, going across the waves, I manage to go upwind in between sets but rarely enough to counter the tack into the waves. It's frustrating as I spend a lot of my kiting time battling to trying to get back to near where I launched from.

i'm a newbie to kiting and i have only problem riding up wind in light wind - 11 knots kite 17m. my weight is 100kg so i need a little more wind. when blows well riding up wind is no problem

For sure light wind riding is a lot tougher especially for us bigger guys

there was Swedish guy on the beach,he had only 65 kg of weight - little guy, I gave him my 17 it was only 11 knots, he flew beautifully upwind i was struggle in same wind condition

I was leading a downwinder in a remote area and I took a heavy water proof back pack with pump, food, water, medical gear etc and I realised how different Kiting was with just a little extra weight. It really does make a difference, lighter riders have an advantage in light winds and bigger riders can hang on to much bigger kites in strong winds. I think your kite skills will get very good in light wind as you have to have excellent technique!

Calling it a walk of shame, when your new and trying hard to learn something with an extremely steep learning curve I find simply disgusting. All credit to those that keep trying
