Consistency is character. Here's a three-step plan for growing in consistency in every area of life, starting with prayer.

1. Consistency is character 2. Pray 3. Plan 4. People "Much praying is not done because we do not plan to pray. We do not drift into spiritual life; we do not drift into disciplined prayer. We will not grow in prayer unless we plan to pray. That means we must self-consciously set aside time to do nothing but pray. What we actually do reflects our highest priorities." (Don Carson, Praying with Paul)

I love that you started this with the character of consistency. This hit me deep. I had never thought of consistency from a character standpoint before. Being inconsistent says a lot about who we are to others and to ourselves.

Hi Reagan. Thanks for your work. I hope you’ll have an episode where you share about your prayer habit and “best practices” in the context of being a productive and effective Christian. Many of us believers wants to be faithful in prayer, but we always feel inadequate and I just couldn’t find a “system” that works. I know prayer should be spontaneous but also intentional esp when you have prayer items you want to pray for (supplication and requests for others). So perhaps you have some good tips or practices in this area also. Thanks.

Well, when _I_ was young, I kept receiving from my church, a monthly Prayer Journal. A missionary's one with - interesting - blurbs on different countries and prayer points for each. In addition to room to write more prayer points down. ... But my parents also prayed regularly with me when I was even younger than that. I'm not certain whether continuing to pray from the prayer journal was my initiative or my parents' reinforcement. So: I mention the prayer journal because I remember how confident I was. That these things /would/, for certain, get prayed for by me. My life's experience tells me that routines; tools, like lists; and programs, like people who'll help keep me accountable by some intentional design. Through their checking in on me (even if it is informal; as long as it's _regular_, in relation to the "goal", speaking loosely). That any of these things will help /force/ - or just more highly motivate & help - me to /actually/ do it. It...makes me feel safer, and is comforting; which I really like. In the sense of "only because it //actually is//; NOT false feelings or pretending & ignoring". So, also do things to: -reinforce your habits -create a hedge of protection around what's important in your life. In fact, I'd say for the important things, that you can declare "a hedge of protection around them" in Jesus' name. If you're beginning something that you know /is/ important to God; like a major change to become a responsible, through-a-job,-contributing citizen. Or pursue a specific career, once you're certain that God approves of of it. Or "just" undergoing a major personality change, that'll make you follow what God says for you to do more closely. Of course, especially those last few examples; came [almost or] only from my own life...sadly, for the circumstances mean I could've done so much better by now- no, by years ago. For some of them, fell so much. Must change beliefs & thinking to more helpful ones, somehows.... Must move beyond just the first step for that....

I just viewed your podcast with Costi on “How to Kill Laziness & Thrive” - one of my favorite podcasts because your message of applying “POWER” seems to be an achievable new morning routine. Thank you!

Excellent Teaching!!! This is perfect timing and something I think we all struggle with. I really appreciated the points differentiating between just changing our behavior using psychology techniques and having an actual renewed heart and mind! Good job! Thank you !

Love this. I would recommend the book "8 Habits of growth" by Darryl Dash that does go into these areas for Christians!
